A novel dynamically controlled plasma arc welding process was introduced,which is able tominimize heat input into the workpiece materials while maintaining desired full penetration,and it was used to weld Ti-6Al-4V alloy sheets.The microstructures,facture surfaces and microhardness of the welded joints were characterized by using optical microscope,scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Vickers microhardness tester.Comparing with welds such as gas tungsten arc and conventional plasma arc processes,the experimental results revealed the improvements when using the present process including:1) reducing prior-beta (β) grain size and prohibiting formation of hard martensite phases in the fusion zone due to the decreased heat input;and 2) better toughness and higher hardness. 展开更多

The effect of arc-ultrasound on microstructures and mechanical properties of SiCp/6061A1 MMCs joints produced by arc-ultrasound plasma arc "in-situ" alloy-welding with different excitation frequencies was investigated, in which argon-nitrogen mixture was used as plasma gas, Ti wire as filler and the arc-ultrasound was produced by modulating the plasma arc with high frequency. The results show that arc-ultrasound could refine the new reinforced composites such as TiC, TiN significantly, and improve their distribution greatly. And new phase A13Ti becomes finer and less. The test results of mechanical properties indicate that the maximum tensile strength of welded joints is gained when the excitation frequency is 50 kHz, and the maximum is 225 MPa, raising by about 7% comoared with conventional nlasma arc welding (PAW) (20q MPa). 展开更多

In the test, woods were treated by N2, O2 cold plasma with the processing power 300 W, which last for 5 min; subsequently, the treated woods were bonded with MUF to valve the bonding performance, the contact angles of the treated/un- treated wood were tested. The chemical composition on the surface of wood with or without N2 cold plasma treatment was also studied by X-ray photoelectron spec- troscopy (XPS). The results showed: the contact angles of the surface decreased; the surface free energy increased evidently that treated by N2 or O2 cold plasma; the average bonding performance of wood that treated by cold plasma (whether N2 or O2) increased obviously and more than 50% was proved compared with that un- treated by cold plasma. The XPS analysis showed the atomic ratio O/C has in- creased, and more groups were oxidized or more peroxides were formed on the surface of wood; N element was introduced to the wood surface after nitrogen cold plasma treatment and it was estimated to the group of -NH2. 展开更多

[Result] Oxygen cold plasma treatment could increase binding strength of bamboo by 25%-30%. The cold plasma treatment was very fast and effective, but the changes of contact angle was not great in this experiment. Direct growth of GaN films on Si(001) substrate at low temperatures (620~720℃) by electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) microwave plasma enhanced metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (PEMOCVD).The crystalline phase structures of the films are investigated.The results of high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X ray diffraction (XRD) indicate that high c axis oriented crystalline wurtzite GaN is grown on Si(001) but there is an amorphous layer formed naturally at GaN/Si interface.Both faces of the amorphous layer are flat and sharp,and the thickness of the layer is 2nm approximately cross the interface.The analysis supports that β GaN phase is not formed owing to the N x Si y amorphous layer induced by the reaction between N and Si during the initial nucleation stage.The results of XRD and atomic force microscopy (AFM) indicate that the conditions of substrate surface cleaned in situ by hydrogen plasma,GaN initial nucleation and subsequent growth are very important for the crystalline quality of GaN films. 展开更多

The influence of Ti-Si-Mg-AI wire on microstructure and mechanical properties of SiCp/A1 metal matrix composite joints produced by plasma arc in-situ weld-alloying was investigated. Argon-nitrogen mixture was used as plasma gas and Ti-Si-Mg-A1 flux-cored wires as filled composites. Weldments were submitted to tensile test. Meanwhile, the macro morphology and microstructure of the joints were examined. The result shows that the formation ofneedie-like harmful phase A14C3 is effectively inhibited and the wettability of molten pool is improved by adding Ti-Si-Mg-A1 flux-cored wires. With 15Ti-5Si-5Mg-A1 flux-cored wire as filled composite, the maximum tensile strength of the welded joint is 267 MPa, which is up to 83% that of the matrix composites under annealed condition. 展开更多

A laser lap welding process for zinc-coated steel has a well-known unsolved problem-porosity formation. The boiling temperature of coated zinc is lower than the melting temperature of the base metal, which is steel. In the autogenous laser welding, the zinc vapor generates from the lapped surfaces expels the molten pool and the expulsion causes numerous weld defects, such as spatters and blow holes on the weld surface and porosity inside the welds. The laser-arc hybrid welding was suggested as an alternative method for the laser lap welding because the arc can preheat or post-beat the weldment according to the arrangement of the laser beam and the arc. CO2 laser-micro plasma hybrid welding was applied to the lap welding of zinc-coated steel with zero-gap. The relationships among the weld quality and process parameters of the laser-arc arrangement, and the laser-arc interspacing distance and arc current were investigated using a full-factorial experimental design. The effect of laser-arc arrangement is dominant because the leading plasma arc partially melts the upper steel sheets and vaporizes or oxidizes the coated zinc on the lapped surfaces. Compared with the result from the laser-TIG hybrid welding, the heat input from arc can be reduced by 40%. 展开更多

The plasma-MIG welding torch was developed.5A06 aluminum alloys with V-grooves were welded in a single pass in the plasma-MIG welding process and the joints were examined by X-ray diffractometry analysis and mechanical tests.The orthogonal experimental design was used to study the influence of plasma-MIG welding parameters on the aluminum weld porosity.The mixed orthogonal matrix L16(4 4×2 3) and analysis of variance (ANOVA)technique were employed to optimize the welding parameters.The experimental results indicate that the effect of plasma gas flow rate is dominant,the secondary factors are MIG welding voltage,welding speed,wire feed rate and plasma current in turn.Confirmation experiments were conducted under optimum conditions and there was almost no porosity in the welded joints,thus good mechanical performance joints were obtained. 展开更多

The effect of graft yield on both the thermo-responsive hydraulicpermeability and the therrno-responsive diffusional permeability through porous membranes withplasma-grafted poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) gates was investigated. Both thermo-responsiveflat membranes and core-shell microcapsule membranes with a wide range of graft yield of PNIPAM wereprepared using a plasma-graft pore-filling polymerization method. The grafted PNIPAM was formedhomogeneously throughout the entire thickness of both the flat polyethylene membranes and themicrocapsule polyamide membranes. Both the hydraulic permeability and the diffusional permeabilitywere heavily dependent on the PNIPAM graft yield. With increasing the graft yield, the hydraulicpermeability (water flux) decreases rapidly at 25℃ because of the decrease of the pore size;however, the water flux at 40℃ increases firstly to a peak because of the increase ofhydrophobicity of the pore surface, and then decreases and finally tends to zero because of the poresize becoming smaller and smaller. For the diffusional permeability, the temperature showsdifferent effects on the diffusional permeability coefficients of solutes across the membranes. Whenthe graft yield was low, the diffusional coefficient of solute across the membrane was higher attemperature above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) than that below the LCST; however,when the graft yield was high, the diffusional coefficient was lower at temperature above the LCSTthan that below the LCST. It is very important to choose or design a proper graft yield of PNIPAMfor obtaining a desired thermo-responsive 'on/off' hydraulic or diffusional permeability. 展开更多

In this paper, an efficient methodology for synthesizing the indirect work exchange networks(WEN) considering isothermal process and adiabatic process respectively based on transshipment model is first proposed. In contrast with superstructure method, the transshipment model is easier to obtain the minimum utility consumption taken as the objective function and more convenient for us to attain the optimal network configuration for further minimizing the number of units. Different from division of temperature intervals in heat exchange networks,different pressure intervals are gained according to the maximum compression/expansion ratio in consideration of operating principles of indirect work exchangers and the characteristics of no pressure constraints for stream matches. The presented approach for WEN synthesis is a linear programming model applied to the isothermal process, but for indirect work exchange networks with adiabatic process, a nonlinear programming model needs establishing. Additionally, temperatures should be regarded as decision variables limited to the range between inlet and outlet temperatures in each sub-network. The constructed transshipment model can be solved first to get the minimum utility consumption and further to determine the minimum number of units by merging the adjacent pressure intervals on the basis of the proposed merging methods, which is proved to be effective through exergy analysis at the level of units structures. Finally, two cases are calculated to confirm it is dramatically feasible and effective that the optimal WEN configuration can be gained by the proposed method. 展开更多
