Wang, 2016, 2017), a Chinese word meaning continuation that captures the process in which interlocutors participate in interaction through the actions of(utterance) completion,(content) extension, and(topic) creation(CEC). This article reports a conversation analytic case study designed to investigate how the continuation strategies of CEC are used in real-time communication to achieve mutual understanding, and thus to construct intersubjectivity(Verhagen, 2005) and promote the development of second language(L2)interactional competence. Our data consisted of audio and video recordings of a 25-minute conversation between two L2 English speakers, one expert and one novice, and a stimulated recall interview with them. Results revealed that the expert employed CEC at the early stage of interaction to maintain successful communication, and the novice gradually aligned with the expert and used CEC to achieve mutual understanding, construct intersubjectivity, and create opportunities for interaction and learning at the late stage, displaying her development of L2 interactional competence. Our findings have useful implications for theoretical and methodological development of the xu-argument studies as well as for xu-based L2 pedagogy.展开更多

Therefore, it is very important to study the teaching strategies of college English teaching. Culture and language are complementary and inseparable, which requires us to carry out cultural teaching during English teaching process. In this paper, we focus on the strategy of integrating enterprise cultures into college English teaching, and discuss several cultural teaching problems in college English class. As a language required course, English not only strengthen the learners’ language skills, but also enhance humanistic quality of students. However, current college English teaching takes the examination as the goal, which cannot meet the needs of the learner’s professional stuff. Two instruments for collecting data, i.e. interview and a multi-category observation scheme, were used here. The distribution pattern showed that the level of cognitive complexity manifested in the teacher's explanation strategies is determined both by complexity of the grammatical structure dealt with in class and by the level of the learners' language proficiency level. It is hoped that this study can serve as the first step in the process of discovering which explanation strategy embedded in what sort of structure can benefit the understanding of the goal concepts.展开更多

Quantitative data are collected from 74 English majors who are learning French as the...This paper intends to make a comparative study of the vocabulary strategies used in 1st and 2nd foreign language by English majors. Quantitative data are collected from 74 English majors who are learning French as their 2nd foreign language, using a questionnaire designed mainly on the basis of O'Malley and Chamot's classifications of learning strategies. The subjects' beliefs in vocabulary learning are also investigated through the questionnaire. Findings show that vocabulary strategies used in 1st foreign language could influence, to a certain extent, their counterparts in 2nd foreign language, but significant differences still exist in many vocabulary strategies employed by the subjects in 1st and 2nd foreign language learning. Reasons for the differences are also analyzed in the paper. Finally, feasible measures are proposed to improve 2nd foreign language learning and teaching in Chinese universities.展开更多

It has ecological, economic, and social values and helps alleviate many urban problems caused by the rapid adva...The introduction of productive gardens on public building roofs is an active way to use urban idle space. It has ecological, economic, and social values and helps alleviate many urban problems caused by the rapid advancement of land urbanization. This paper takes the productive rooftop garden of an urban commercial complex as an example, and assesses its development status based on methods including ArcGIS, field research, and questionnaire interviews, combined with the overall aspects of the country and key case analysis. The results indicate several key aspects of the current status of such gardens in China.(1) As affected by natural and social factors, the current spatial distribution of productive rooftop gardens of commercial complexes in Chinese mainland is uneven, with 84.21% located in the southeast coast and the Sichuan region.(2) The operation and development of this type of productive landscape is in good shape. The number of rooftop gardens has continued to increase since 2013, and the scale is generally greater. Currently, the business model which combines nature education and parent-child amusement experience activities is the most stable.(3) Cases in good operating condition tend to have relatively related characteristics in layouts, traffic functions, landscape elements, and space design.(4) Questionnaire interviews show that citizens are highly willing to participate in rooftop productive landscapes, while operators still experience challenges in policies, funds, and planting knowledge in practice. This paper analyses the existing problems in the development status and strategy of the rooftop productive landscape. It proposes complementary optimization strategies to serve as a reference for the rooftop design of commercial complexes and the utilization of a significant amount of idle space on the roofs.展开更多

By the use of filtering theory,the authors prove that in a monopoly market, there exists a unique equilibrium of linear strategy of intensity in a closed form, such that the insider can make positive profits and at which, all of the private information on the value of the stock is released; and the more accurate the information on the value of the stock observed by the market makers, the less the positive profits are made by the insider, and even go to zero. However, there is no Nash equilibrium in a Cournot competition market between two insiders if they both adopt a linear strategy of intensity.展开更多
