In the supersonic part of the incoming flow, shock waves appear in the front part of the blades and propagate in the upstream direction. In case of multiple blade rows, steady simulations have to impose an azimuthal averaging (mixing plane) which prevents these shock waves to extend upstream. In the present paper, several mixing plane locations are numerically tested and compared in a supersonic configuration. An analytical method is used to describe the shock pattern. It enables to take a critical look at the CFD (computational fluid dynamics) steady results. Based on this method, the shock losses are also evaluated. The good agreement between analytical and numerical values shows that this method can be useful to wisely forecast the mixing plane location and to evaluate the shift in performances due to the presence of the mixing plane.展开更多

Jet-blast from airplane is simulated by wall-jet setup using a sonic nozzle at a laboratory scale. Farfield velocity and fluctuation distributions are measured by using X-type hot wire anemometer at four measurement planes. As a result, the flow properties of streamwise component are consistent with data which are obtained in previous researches. The secondary flow is also measured on each measurement plane. Reynolds stresses, v'v' and w' w', are analyzed from the fluctuation of the secondary flow. The law of similarity is observed in the dimensionless distributions of mean velocity and fluctuation. However, the distributions in nearer field (i.e., in the measurement plane at X/D = 100) tend to disobey the similarity law, especially in the cases of fluctuation. It seems that jet-blast is not fully developed by reaching X/D = 100. The experimental results are compared with computational results which are obtained by CFD (computational fluid dynamics) with SST (shear-stress transport) turbulence model. And it is shown that the results by the simulation with SST turbulence model do not follow the similarity law. The present database of the Reynolds stresses is critically important for development of a new turbulence model of RANS (reynolds-averaged navier-atokes) simulations on wall-jet.展开更多

The use of the application, called Versant English Test, is examined in the context of a country where English is not the first language of communication, in order to determine whether or not English as the first language of the country in which the test is taken could have a bearing on the test result. As suggested by Chun(2006), this study compares the results achieved by test takers in a non-English speaking environment with those obtained by different test takers in an English speaking environment. To be able to decide whether the Versant is more prone to setting-related bias than other English proficiency tests, the Versant test scores are correlated with the TOEFL scores of the test-takers in a non-English speaking setting and the correlation coefficient is then compared with that achieved in an English-speaking environment. The results suggest that the correlation between the Versant and TOEFL in a non-English-speaking environment is not significantly different from that obtained in an English-speaking environment.展开更多

A repulsive particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to obtain the pyrolysis-related properties. In the previous study all properties obtained only using a cone calorimeter but in this paper both the cone calorimeter and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) are used for precisely optimizing the pyrolysis properties. In the TGA test a very small mass is heated up and conduction and heat capacity in the specimen is negligible so kinetic parameters can first be optimized. Other pyrolysis-related properties such as virgin/char specific heat and conductivity and char density are also optimized in the cone calorimeter test with the already decided parameters in the TGA test.展开更多
