The flow was turbulent, incompressible and unsteady...Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations of cavitating flow through water hydraulic poppet valves were performed using advanced RNG k-epsilon turbulence model. The flow was turbulent, incompressible and unsteady, for Reynolds numbers greater than 43 000. The working fluid was water, and the structure of the valve was simplified as a two dimensional axisymmetric geometrical model. Flow field visualization was numerically achieved. The effects of inlet velocity, outlet pressure, opening size as well as poppet angle on cavitation intensity in the poppet valve were numerically investigated. Experimental flow visualization was conducted to capture cavitation images near the orifice in the poppet valve with 30° poppet angle using high speed video camera. The binary cavitating flow field distribution obtained from digital processing of the original cavitation image showed a good agreement with the numerical result.展开更多

It leads to reduce the cri...A novel Parallel-Based Lifting Algorithm (PBLA) for Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), exploiting the parallelism of arithmetic operations in all lifting steps, is proposed in this paper. It leads to reduce the critical path latency of computation, and to reduce the complexity of hardware implementation as well. The detailed derivation on the proposed algorithm, as well as the resulting Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) architecture, is introduced, taking the 9/7 DWT as an example but without loss of generality. In comparison with the Conventional Lifting Algorithm Based Implementation (CLABI), the critical path latency of the proposed architecture is reduced by more than half from (4Tm + 8Ta)to Tm + 4Ta, and is competitive to that of Convolution-Based Implementation (CBI), but the new implementation will save significantly in hardware. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed architecture has good performance in both increasing working frequency and reducing area.展开更多
Based on field data for nutrients collected on the continental shelf of the East China Sea(ECS) during summer 2006, the structure and variations of nutrients in every water mass related to the Taiwan Warm Current(TWC)...Based on field data for nutrients collected on the continental shelf of the East China Sea(ECS) during summer 2006, the structure and variations of nutrients in every water mass related to the Taiwan Warm Current(TWC) were analyzed. The supplementary effect of nutrient of upwelling on harmful algal blooms(HABs) in the ECS was also estimated, based on upwelling data. Then the maintenance contribution of nutrient of upwelling to HABs was assessed. The results showed that N/P ratio is fairly low in both surface and deep layers of the TWC, which possibly controls nutrient structure of the HABs-frequently-occuring areas. In upwelling areas, the rate of phosphate(PO4-P) uptake exceeds that of nitrate(NO3-N) of the TWC. The TWC may relieve PO4-P limitation during the process of HABs. Furthermore, upwelling plays an important role in providing nutrients to HABs. After estimating nutrient fluxes(NO3-N, PO4-P, Si O3-Si) in the upwelling areas along a typical section(S07), the results showed that the nutrient uptake rate is the greatest at 10-20 m below euphotic zone, sustaining the ongoing presence of HABs. The uptake rate of PO4-P is the highest among dissolved inorganic nutrients. Therefore, upwelling is most likely the main source of PO4-P supply to HABs.展开更多

However, its usefulness is hampered by its computational expense. In this paper, in an attempt to develop a faster method for computing Fourier transforms, the authors present parallel implementations of two new algorithms developed for the type IV Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT-IV) which support the new interleaved fast Fourier transform method. The authors discuss the realizations of their implementations using two paradigms. The first involved commodity equipment and the Message-Passing Interface (MPI) library. The second utilized the RapidMind development platform and the Cell Broadband Engine (BE) processor. These experiments indicate that the authors' rotation-based algorithm is preferable to their lifting-based algorithm on the platforms tested, with increased efficiency demonstrated by their MPI implementation for large data sets. Finally, the authors outline future work by discussing an architecture-oriented method for computing DCT-IVs which promises further optimization. The results indicate a promising fresh direction in the search for efficient ways to compute Fourier transforms.展开更多

The aerodynamic loads and the maximum lift coefficient of the complete aircraft configuration (fuselage+wing+tail) are computed by using the modified three-dimensional low-order panel method in conjunction with the semi-empirical formulas of DATCOM. Results show that the lift coefficient increases approximately 20.5%- 15.3% for Mach number 0. 4-0.8 and 6.8% for Mach number 1.2, and its maximum value approximately 9.5% -15.0% for Machnumber 0.2-0.95when LEXis installed. A 6.6%-8.0 % gain at altitudes of 1-5 km on the turn rate maneuverability and the corner speed have been achieved in the subsonic regime.展开更多

Based on this viewpoint, this paper puts forward a formula for the effect of silt sediment on the lifting force. The formula includes gate weight, down-suction force, sealing rubber friction, plus-weight, water-column pressure, plus-silted-sediment weight and rolling(or sliding)-bearing friction. The designed distance-based similarity measure is applicable to general fuzzy membership functions including non-convex fuzzy membership function, whereas fuzzy number-based similarity measure has limitation to calculate the similarity of general fuzzy membership functions. The applicability of the proposed similarity measure to general fuzzy membership structures is proven by identifying the definition. To decide fault detection of flight system, the experimental data (pitching moment coefficients and lift coefficients) are transformed into fuzzy membership functions. Distance-based similarity measure is applied to the obtained fuzzy membership functions, and similarity computation and analysis are obtained with the fault and normal operation coefficients.展开更多

To ensure its safety in the future service, studying on crack propagation rule and the residual life estimation method of large-module rack is of great significance. The possible crack distribution forms of the rack in the Three Gorges shiplift were studied. By applying moving load on the model in FRANC3 D and ANSYS, quantitative analyses of interference effects on double cracks in both collinear and offset conditions were conducted. The variation rule of the stress intensity factor(SIF) influence factor, RK, of double collinear cracks changing with crack spacing ratio, RS, was researched. The horizontal and vertical crack spacing threshold of double cracks within the design life of the shiplift were obtained, which are 24 and 4 times as large as half of initial crack length, c0, respectively. The crack growth rates along the length and depth directions in the process of coalescence on double collinear cracks were also studied.展开更多

It was recognized that many locations in Egyptian Coast, on Mediterranean Sea (Mersa Matruh, Alexandria and Port Said) and on Red Sea (Hurghada), are highly vulnerable to the potential impacts of sea level rise, salt water intrusion and increase of frequency and severity of storm surges. The aim of this study is to investigate the monthly average and the variations of sea level and meteorological conditions along the Egyptian Mediterranean and north Red Sea coasts. Monthly mean cycles and correlation coefficients between MSL (Mean Sea Level) and different meteorological parameters were also calculated. The analyzed data was from 2007 to 2009 covering 3 years of hourly recorded sea level and meteorological parameters were used except for Hurghada sea level was for 2007 and 2008. Sea level harmonic analyses were done by using TOGA (Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere) software. Sea level variations were also computed, and it was 20.1,20, 0.1 and 55.3 cm in Alexandria, Port Said, Mersa Matruh and Hurghada respectively. The annual of the tidal constituents were computed to determine the MSL. Surge calculations were done by using TOGA software and eliminating the predicted tide from the observed sea level. The average calculated surge was also analyzed that the highest surge happened during summer and the lowest during winter in Alexandria and Port Said, while the highest surge was during winter and the lowest during summer in Hurghada. The surge variation was very weak in Mersa Matruh. The result of multiple regression analysis is a statistically significant relationship between the variables at the 99% confidence level.展开更多

The continuous time model of the system is properly introduced, then, by imposing a proper PWM modulation pattern, its discrete time model is achieved. This last one is successfully employed in determining the steady state locus of the Buck-Boost converter, both in CCM (continuous conduction mode) and DCM (discontinuous conduction mode). A novel continuous time equivalent circuit of the converter is introduced too, with the aim of determining a ripple free representation of the state variables of the system, over both transient and steady state operation. Then, a predictive current control algorithm, suitable in both CCM and DCM, is developed and properly checked by means of computer simulations. The corresponding results have highlighted the effectiveness of the proposed modelling and of the predictive control algorithm, both in CCM and DCM.展开更多

The compression modulus(Es)is one of the most significant soil parameters that affects the compressive deformation of geotechnical systems,such as foundations.However,it is difficult and sometime costly to obtain this...The compression modulus(Es)is one of the most significant soil parameters that affects the compressive deformation of geotechnical systems,such as foundations.However,it is difficult and sometime costly to obtain this parameter in engineering practice.In this study,we aimed to develop a non-parametric ensemble artificial intelligence(AI)approach to calculate the Es of soft clay in contrast to the traditional regression models proposed in previous studies.A gradient boosted regression tree(GBRT)algorithm was used to discern the non-linear pattern between input variables and the target response,while a genetic algorithm(GA)was adopted for tuning the GBRT model's hyper-parameters.The model was tested through 10-fold cross validation.A dataset of 221 samples from 65 engineering survey reports from Shanghai infrastructure projects was constructed to evaluate the accuracy of the new model5 s predictions.The mean squared error and correlation coefficient of the optimum GBRT model applied to the testing set were 0.13 and 0.91,respectively,indicating that the proposed machine learning(ML)model has great potential to improve the prediction of Es for soft clay.A comparison of the performance of empirical formulas and the proposed ML method for predicting foundation settlement indicated the rationality of the proposed ML model and its applicability to the compressive deformation of geotechnical systems.This model,however,cannot be directly applied to the prediction of Es in other sites due to its site specificity.This problem can be solved by retraining the model using local data.This study provides a useful reference for future multi-parameter prediction of soil behavior.展开更多

文摘In this paper, silt sediment is considered to be Bingham body, which is made up of coarse and fine particles in front of a hydraulic gate. The coarse and fine particles provide friction and shear stress in the course of opening the gate. They constitute together the adhesion force of the sediment. Based on this viewpoint, this paper puts forward a formula for the effect of silt sediment on the lifting force. The formula includes gate weight, down-suction force, sealing rubber friction, plus-weight, water-column pressure, plus-silted-sediment weight and rolling(or sliding)-bearing friction. Finally, the verification results show that the formula has certain reliability and the calculation accuracy can meet the need of practical engineering.

文摘The in-medium quark condensate is studied with an equivalent-mass approach in which one does not need to make assumptions on the derivatives of model parameters with respect to the quark current mass.It is shown that the condensate is generally a decreasing function of both the density and temperature with the decreasing speed depending on the confinement parameter.Specially,at given density,the condensate decreases on increasing temperature.The decreasing speed is comparatively small at lower temperature,and becomes very fast at higher temperature.

文摘Fault detection technique is introduced with similarity measure. The characteristics of conventional similarity measure based on fuzzy number are discussed. With the help of distance measure, similarity measure is constructed explicitly. The designed distance-based similarity measure is applicable to general fuzzy membership functions including non-convex fuzzy membership function, whereas fuzzy number-based similarity measure has limitation to calculate the similarity of general fuzzy membership functions. The applicability of the proposed similarity measure to general fuzzy membership structures is proven by identifying the definition. To decide fault detection of flight system, the experimental data (pitching moment coefficients and lift coefficients) are transformed into fuzzy membership functions. Distance-based similarity measure is applied to the obtained fuzzy membership functions, and similarity computation and analysis are obtained with the fault and normal operation coefficients.

文摘Large-module rack of the Three Gorges shiplift is manufactured by casting and machining, which is unable to avoid slag inclusions and surface cracks. To ensure its safety in the future service, studying on crack propagation rule and the residual life estimation method of large-module rack is of great significance. The possible crack distribution forms of the rack in the Three Gorges shiplift were studied. By applying moving load on the model in FRANC3 D and ANSYS, quantitative analyses of interference effects on double cracks in both collinear and offset conditions were conducted. The variation rule of the stress intensity factor(SIF) influence factor, RK, of double collinear cracks changing with crack spacing ratio, RS, was researched. The horizontal and vertical crack spacing threshold of double cracks within the design life of the shiplift were obtained, which are 24 and 4 times as large as half of initial crack length, c0, respectively. The crack growth rates along the length and depth directions in the process of coalescence on double collinear cracks were also studied.
文摘The vulnerability of Egypt to potential impacts of sea level rise has been considered. It was recognized that many locations in Egyptian Coast, on Mediterranean Sea (Mersa Matruh, Alexandria and Port Said) and on Red Sea (Hurghada), are highly vulnerable to the potential impacts of sea level rise, salt water intrusion and increase of frequency and severity of storm surges. The aim of this study is to investigate the monthly average and the variations of sea level and meteorological conditions along the Egyptian Mediterranean and north Red Sea coasts. Monthly mean cycles and correlation coefficients between MSL (Mean Sea Level) and different meteorological parameters were also calculated. The analyzed data was from 2007 to 2009 covering 3 years of hourly recorded sea level and meteorological parameters were used except for Hurghada sea level was for 2007 and 2008. Sea level harmonic analyses were done by using TOGA (Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere) software. Sea level variations were also computed, and it was 20.1,20, 0.1 and 55.3 cm in Alexandria, Port Said, Mersa Matruh and Hurghada respectively. The annual of the tidal constituents were computed to determine the MSL. Surge calculations were done by using TOGA software and eliminating the predicted tide from the observed sea level. The average calculated surge was also analyzed that the highest surge happened during summer and the lowest during winter in Alexandria and Port Said, while the highest surge was during winter and the lowest during summer in Hurghada. The surge variation was very weak in Mersa Matruh. The result of multiple regression analysis is a statistically significant relationship between the variables at the 99% confidence level.

文摘The temperature rise of He Ⅱ transfer system due to the negative Joule-Thomson(JT)effect is one of the major problems in the He Ⅱ forced flow system design.Negative Joule-Thomson effect of the He Ⅱ forced flow was analyzed and calculated in this paper.The temperature rise due to the heat leak along the transfer pipeline was calculated by the simplified equation and was modified by considering the negative Joule-Thomson effect.The modified results were compared with the temperature rise obtained by non-linear differential equations with consideration of the pressure gradient.The results show that the pressure gradient has strong effect on the temperature distribution.The modified results are in good agreement with the values calculated by the complicated equation,which verifies the effectiveness of the simplified equation in calculating the temperature rise when the negative JT effect of He Ⅱ is known.
文摘A predictive current control algorithm for the Buck-Boost DC-DC converter is presented in this paper. The continuous time model of the system is properly introduced, then, by imposing a proper PWM modulation pattern, its discrete time model is achieved. This last one is successfully employed in determining the steady state locus of the Buck-Boost converter, both in CCM (continuous conduction mode) and DCM (discontinuous conduction mode). A novel continuous time equivalent circuit of the converter is introduced too, with the aim of determining a ripple free representation of the state variables of the system, over both transient and steady state operation. Then, a predictive current control algorithm, suitable in both CCM and DCM, is developed and properly checked by means of computer simulations. The corresponding results have highlighted the effectiveness of the proposed modelling and of the predictive control algorithm, both in CCM and DCM.

文摘The compression modulus(Es)is one of the most significant soil parameters that affects the compressive deformation of geotechnical systems,such as foundations.However,it is difficult and sometime costly to obtain this parameter in engineering practice.In this study,we aimed to develop a non-parametric ensemble artificial intelligence(AI)approach to calculate the Es of soft clay in contrast to the traditional regression models proposed in previous studies.A gradient boosted regression tree(GBRT)algorithm was used to discern the non-linear pattern between input variables and the target response,while a genetic algorithm(GA)was adopted for tuning the GBRT model's hyper-parameters.The model was tested through 10-fold cross validation.A dataset of 221 samples from 65 engineering survey reports from Shanghai infrastructure projects was constructed to evaluate the accuracy of the new model5 s predictions.The mean squared error and correlation coefficient of the optimum GBRT model applied to the testing set were 0.13 and 0.91,respectively,indicating that the proposed machine learning(ML)model has great potential to improve the prediction of Es for soft clay.A comparison of the performance of empirical formulas and the proposed ML method for predicting foundation settlement indicated the rationality of the proposed ML model and its applicability to the compressive deformation of geotechnical systems.This model,however,cannot be directly applied to the prediction of Es in other sites due to its site specificity.This problem can be solved by retraining the model using local data.This study provides a useful reference for future multi-parameter prediction of soil behavior.
