Little is known about how the assessment modality,i.e.,computer-based(CB)and paper-based(PB)tests,affects language teachers’scorings,perceptions,and preferences and,therefore,the validity and fairness of classroom wr...Little is known about how the assessment modality,i.e.,computer-based(CB)and paper-based(PB)tests,affects language teachers’scorings,perceptions,and preferences and,therefore,the validity and fairness of classroom writing assessments.The present mixed-methods study used Shaw and Weir’s(2007)sociocognitive writing test validation framework to examine the scoring and consequential validity evidence of CB and PB writing tests in EFL classroom assessment in higher education.Original handwritten and word-processed texts of 38 EFL university students were transcribed to their opposite format and assessed by three language lecturers(N=456 texts,152 per teacher)to examine the scoring validity of CB and PB tests.The teachers’perceptions of text quality and preferences for assessment modality accounted for the consequential validity evidence of both tests.Findings revealed that the assessment modality impacted teachers’scorings,perceptions,and preferences.The teachers awarded higher scores to original and transcribed handwritten texts,particularly text organization and language use.The teachers’perceptions of text quality differed from their ratings,and physical,psychological,and experiential characteristics influenced their preferences for assessment modality.The results have implications for the validity and fairness of CB and PB writing tests and teachers’assessment practices.展开更多

A novel QoS sat...Due to the diversified demands of quality of service(QoS) in volume multimedia application, QoS routings for multiservice are becoming a research hotspot in low earth orbit(LEO) satellite networks. A novel QoS satellite routing algorithm for multi-class traffic is proposed. The goal of the routing algorithm is to provide the distinct QoS for different traffic classes and improve the utilization of network resources. Traffic is classified into three classes and allocated priorities based on their QoS requirements, respectively. A priority queuing mechanism guarantees the algorithm to work better for high-priority classes. In order to control the congestion, a blocking probability analysis model is built up based on the Markov process theory. Finally, according to the classification link-cost metrics, routings for different classes are calculated with the distinct QoS requirments and the status of network resource. Simulations verify the performance of the routing algorithm at different time and in different regions, and results demonstrate that the algorithm has great advantages in terms of the average delay and the blocking probability. Meanwhile, the robustness issue is also discussed.展开更多

The calculated lattice parameters are in good agreement with the experimental and literature values. The calculated heats of formation and cohesive energies show that Al_2Ca has the strongest alloying ability and structural stability. The densities of states(DOS), Mulliken electron occupation number, metallicity and charge density difference of these compounds are given. The elastic constants of Mg_(17)Al_(12), Al_2Ca, Mg_2 Sn and Mg_2 Ca phases are calculated, and the bulk moduli, shear moduli, elastic moduli and Poisson ratio are derived. The calculations of thermodynamic properties show that the Gibbs free energies of Al_2Ca and Mg_2 Sn are lower than that of Mg_(17)Al_(12), which indicates that Al_2Ca and Mg_2 Sn are more stable than Mg_(17)Al_(12) phase. The photoionization mass spectra of thymine at different photon energy are measured and presented. By selecting suitable photon energy, exclusively molecular ion m/z=126 is obtained. At photon energy of 12.0 eV, the major ionic fragments at m/z=98, 97, 84, 83, 70, and 55 are obtained, which are assigned to C4H6N2O+, C4H5N2O+, C3H4N2O+ (or C4H6NO+), C4H5NO+, C2NO2+, and C3H5N+, respectively. With help of theoretical calculations, the detailed dissociation pathways of thymine at low energy are well established.展开更多

Here, we assess changes in the mass of the glaciers in the West Kunlun Shan(WKS...Recent studies on glaciers in the West Kunlun Shan, northwest Tibetan Plateau, have shown that they may be stable or retreating slightly. Here, we assess changes in the mass of the glaciers in the West Kunlun Shan(WKS) in an attempt to understand the processes that control their behavior. Glaciers over the recent 40 years(1970-2010) have shrunk 3.4±3.1%in area, based on a comparison between two Chinese glacier inventories. Variations of surface elevations, derived from ICESat-GLAS(Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite-Geoscience Laser Altimeter System) elevation products(GLA14 data) using the robust linear-fit method, indicate that the glaciers have been gaining mass at a rate of 0.23±0.24 m w.e./a since 2003. The annual mass budget for the whole WKS range from 2003 to 2009 is estimated to be 0.71±0.62 Gt/a. This gain trend is confirmed by MOD10A1 albedo for the WKS region which shows a descent of the mean snowline altitude from 2003 to 2009.展开更多

The proposed network is a generalization of the network described by Elman, which has three layers including the input layer, the hidden layer and the output layer. The input layer is composed of two different groups of neurons, the group of external input neurons and the group of the internal context neurons. Since arbitrary connections can be allowed from the hidden layer to the context layer, the modified Elman network has more memory space to represent dynamic systems than the Elman network. In addition, it is proved that the proposed network with appropriate neurons in the context layer can approximate the trajectory of a given dynamical system for any fixed finite length of time. The dynamic backpropagation algorithm is used to estimate the weights of both the feedforward and feedback connections. The methods have been successfully applied to the modelling of nonlinear plants.展开更多

Density functional calculations indicate that clusters with the same oxidation index tend to have similar bonding characters, electronic structures, and reactivities. This general rule leads to the findings of new possible ground state struc- tures for V206 and V3O6+ clusters. The values of elastic constants a...The structural, elastic, electronic and optical properties for U3Si2-type AlSc2Si2 compound under pressure were systematically investigated by using the first-principles calculations. The values of elastic constants and elastic moduli indicate that AlSc2Si2 keeps mechanical stability under high pressure. The mechanical properties of AISc2Si2 are compared with those of Al3Sc. The results indicate that AlSc2Si2 is harder than AI3Sc. Anisotropic constant AU and 3D curved surface of elastic moduli predict that AISc2Si2 is obviously anisotropic under pressure. The electronic structure of AlSc2Si2 exhibits metallic character and the metallicity decreases with the elevated pressure. In addition, optical properties as a function of pressure were calculated and analyzed. The present work provides theoretical support for further experimental work and industrial applications.展开更多

The results indicate that AlSc2Si2 is harder than AI3Sc. Anisotropic constant AU and 3D curved surface of elastic moduli predict that AISc2Si2 is obviously anisotropic under pressure. The electronic structure of AlSc2Si2 exhibits metallic character and the metallicity decreases with the elevated pressure. In addition, optical properties as a function of pressure were calculated and analyzed. The present work provides theoretical support for further experimental work and industrial applications.
