Digital Ocean Information Framework of China and its application in the international marine cooperation

Digital Ocean Information Framework （DOIF） has been proposed by China in 2011 based on the achievements of the comprehensive offshore oceanic surveys supported by Chinese Offshore Investigation and Assessment Program, whose code name is 908. All observations from the surveys have been integrated and managed by DOIF. DOIF is capable of supporting the decision of making process for the sustainable use of marine resources in coastal regions of China, providing useful information and added value products as well as services for the improved management of the coastal areas in China with high business impact on the targeted groups as public authorities and commercial operators （e.g. managers, fishermen, shipping companies）. The future vision of DOIF in the international marine data and information exchange and service at Western Pacific region is presented in this paper.

The Technology of Data Conversion Among Different DBMSs

This paper analyzes the schema definition and physical organization of popu- lar relational DBMSs and suggests the use of an intermediary schema.This technology provides many advantages such as powerful extensibility and ease in the integration of data conversions among different DBMSs etc.This pa- per introduces the data conversion system under DOS and XENIX operating systems.

Analysis and Design of Soils and Terrain Digital Database (SOTER) Management System Based on Object-Oriented Method

A SOTER management system was developed by analyzing, designing, programming, testing, repeated proceeding and progressing based on the object-oriented method. The function of the attribute database management is inherited and expanded in the new system. The integrity and security of the SOTER database are enhanced. The attribute database management, the spatial database management and the model base are integrated into SOTER based on the component object model (COM), and the graphical user interface (GUI) for Windows is used to interact with clients, thus being easy to create and maintain the SOTER, and convenient to promote the quantification and automation of soil information application.

Global Memory Net and the development of digital image information management system: Experience and practice

Global Memory Net (GMNet) is intended to be an effective gateway to the world cultural, historical, and heritage image collections from selected academic educational and research partners in the world. Much of these unique collections of great value to education and research are not currently accessible due to distance, form, and technical barriers. This project is to find new ways to enable users to access and exploit these significant research collections via global network. As GMNet is ending its first 5-year phase in October 2005, it has contributed substantially to the community building in digital library development by ac- commodating numerous collaborators and technical staff from various parts of the world to spend 3 to 5 months as a full-member of the GMNet team in Boston. They have come from different parts of China—such as Sichuan, Hainan, Shanghai and Xi’an; Croatia; and Hanoi, Vietnam. In addition to contribute to the overall system development and enhancement of system function- alities, they have brought valuable sample image collections of their own institutions/countries, and actually developed prototype collections as a part of GMNet. This paper describes the exciting and productive experience of the first of this visiting research group in developing the GMNet’s Version 2.0 PHP-based system under Prof. Chen’s overall supervision. It also describes both the system’s technical level structure—user/Web-based application/data, and complex functionalities with multi-collection, multi-lingual, multi-modal searching capabilities; system management capabilities; as well as provisions for user uploads and retrieval for our own projects. This Version 2.0 system is built on the Linux/Apache/PHP/MySQL platform. What is described in this paper is an actual case which has formed a base for further new development by others in the research group. A METHODOLOGY FOR INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

ISO 9000 certification has been considered as an effective competitive edge for manufacturing industries. In Hong Kong, the ISO 9000 certification has been widely adopted and extended to service industries for the sole purpose of enhancing corporate image. However, complaints have been voiced by many certified organizations about increasing paperwork, non direct labour and excessive resources channelled into non core business. This paper is to propound the integrated management system, a single management system focusing on business purpose yet being flexible enough to integrate the requirements of various management standards such as the ISO 9000, ISO 14000 and future ISO 18000. This paper describes how the proposed system could be implemented to achieve the desired business results.

Online SOC estimation based on modified covariance extended Kalman filter for lithium batteries of electric vehicles

To offset the defect of the traditional state of charge(SOC)estimation algorithm of lithium battery for electric vehicle and considering the complex working conditions of lithium batteries,an online SOC estimation algorithm is proposed by combining the online parameter identification method and the modified covariance extended Kalman filter(MVEKF)algorithm.Based on the parameters identified on line with the multiple forgetting factors recursive least squares methods,the newly-established algorithm recalculates the covariance in the iterative process with the modified estimation and updates the process gain which is used for the next state estimation to decrease errors of the filter.Experiments including constant pulse discharging and the dynamic stress test(DST)demonstrate that compared with the EKF algorithm,the MVEKF algorithm produces fewer estimation errors and can reduce the errors to 5%at most under the complex charging and discharging conditions of batteries.In the charging process under the DST condition,the EKF produces a larger deviation and lacks stability,while the MVEKF algorithm can estimate SOC stably and has a strong robustness.Therefore,the established MVEKF algorithm is suitable for complex and changeable working conditions of batteries for electric vehicles.

Consistency maintenance for constraint in role-based access control model

Constraint is an important aspect of role based access control and is sometimes argued to be the principal motivation for role based access control (RBAC). But so far few authors have discussed consistency maintenance for constraint in RBAC model. Based on researches of constraints among roles and types of inconsistency among constraints, this paper introduces corresponding formal rules, rule based reasoning and corresponding methods to detect, avoid and resolve these inconsistencies. Finally, the paper introduces briefly the application of consistency maintenance in ZD PDM, an enterprise oriented product data management (PDM) system.

Building a highly available and intrusion tolerant database security and protection system （ DSPS）

Database Security and Protection System (DSPS) is a security platform for fighting malicious DBMS. The security and performance are critical to DSPS. The authors suggested a key management scheme by combining the server group structure to improve availability and the key distribution structure needed by proactive security. This paper detailed the implementation of proactive security in DSPS. After thorough performance analysis, the authors concluded that the performance difference between the replicated mechanism and proactive mechanism becomes smaller and smaller with increasing number of concurrent connections; and that proactive security is very useful and practical for large, critical applications.

Social Media Sites Enhance Online Teaching and Learning Activities： Instructors＇ Perceptions： A Case Study

Online teaching and learning environments have been booming worldwide. However, many universities in developing countries cannot afford learning management systems, such as Blackboard or WebCT. Therefore, this qualitative study explores the possibility of using social media sites for online instruction due to the fact that their prominent utilities are similar to those of Blackboard and other learning management systems. Through purposeful sampling, four university professors using social media for online instruction were selected as participants, in order to gain insights from their perspectives regarding its usage as an alternative instructional medium. Using the constant comparison method and open coding, data was gathered and triangulated from participant interviews, observations of participants＇ online courses on social media sites; documents collected from their online courses; and the researcher＇s reflexive journal. Thematic findings revealed that social media sites increased （1） interaction and communication between the instructor and students, （2） interaction, communication, and collaboration among students, （3） and interaction between students with materials. It is believed that the significance of the research findings can be transferred to the similar online teaching contexts where learning management systems cannot be afforded.

Management Procedures for Data Collected via Intelligent Transportation Systems

Addressing transportation planning, operation and investment challenges requires increasingly sophisticated data and information management strategies. ITS （intelligent transportation systems） and CV （connected vehicle） technologies represent a new approach to capturing and using needed transportation data in real time or near real time. In the case of Michigan, several ITS programs have been launched successfully, but independently of each other. The objective of this research is to evaluate and assess all important factors that will influence the collection, management and use of ITS data, and recommend strategies to develop integrated, dynamic and adaptive data management systems for state transportation agencies.

The Construction of Research Network Management Platform based on BS Structure

Modeling and Analysis of Data Dependencies in Business Process for Data-Intensive Services

With the growing popularity of data-intensive services on the Internet, the traditional process-centric model for business process meets challenges due to the lack of abilities to describe data semantics and dependencies, resulting in the inflexibility of the design and implement for the processes. This paper proposes a novel data-aware business process model which is able to describe both explicit control flow and implicit data flow. Data model with dependencies which are formulated by Linear-time Temporal Logic(LTL) is presented, and their satisfiability is validated by an automaton-based model checking algorithm. Data dependencies are fully considered in modeling phase, which helps to improve the efficiency and reliability of programming during developing phase. Finally, a prototype system based on j BPM for data-aware workflow is designed using such model, and has been deployed to Beijing Kingfore heating management system to validate the flexibility, efficacy and convenience of our approach for massive coding and large-scale system management in reality.
