Methods Tibialis anterior pediculated triple flaps ( TAPTF) including distal lateral leg, dorsalis pedis flaps for skin defect covering and trimmed hallux for thumb reconstruction were presented. Results Mutilated hands in five patients were repaired by the technique with acceptable cosmetic and functional success. A three to twelve months follow-up in three patients resulted in the recovery of protective thermal sensation and pinch action of the reconstructed thumb. The donor sites were free from major disability. Conclusion TAPTF is ideal for one stage reconstruction of the mutilated hand with loss of digits.展开更多

Complete clinical and radiographic assessment showed double segmental fractures of the tibia and multisegmental fractures of the fibula. Review of the literature revealed that this fracture pattern was unique and only a single case was reported so far. Moreover, we discussed the possible mechanisms which can lead to such an injury. We also discussed the management of segmental tibial fracture and the difficulties encountered with them. This case was managed by modern osteosynthesis technique with a pleasing outcome.展开更多

Methods: Based on morphological observation and measurement of arterial pressure and blood flow, an antegrade and a retrograde vascular bridge flaps were designed using the healthy posterior tibial vessels to serve as vascular pedicles to carry two free flaps for transplantation. Results: Eight cases of patient with one or two large soft tissue defects in the leg region were treated by the method. All the bridge flaps and free flaps survived well, and the defects were repaired completely. Conclusions: The results showed that it is an ideal method for using the posterior tibial vessels from the healthy limb to form vascular pedicles in repairing large soft tissue defects in patients without a usable recipient blood vessel.展开更多
