The microscopic analysis doesn't allow a differential identification of the species. The results of aromatogram by the incorporation method of Muller-Hinton on solid medium, showed a significant antimicrobial activity (method Duraffourd,1987) of the extracts, infusion, and the active substances towards bacterial strains, essentially those recognized as antibiotic resistant (Staphylococcus, Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas, Enterobacter, Citrobacter); the results obtained indicate that the most efficient antibacterial activity was obtained with the pod infusion, the seed extract and the flavonoids. The raw extract has an important antifungal activity on Candida albicans. This could open opportunities for using this species in the treatment of urinary, respiratory, intestinals and cutaneous infections, and as a disinfecting additive on nosocomial area.展开更多

A simple and reliable high-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detector (HPLC-DAD) procedure coupled with chemometric methods was developed for fingerprint analysis, qualitative analysis and quantitative determination of this herb. In qualitative and quantitative analyses, heuristic evolving latent projection (HELP) method was employed to resolve the overlapping peaks of the tested samples. Two bioactive components, namely hesperidin and naringin, are confirmed and determined, together with four flavonoids compounds tentatively identified including two new ones. From fingerprint analysis, the fingerprint data were processed with correlation coefficients for quantitative expression of their similarity and dissimilarity. The developed method based on an integration of chromatographic fingerprint and quantitative analysis is scientific, and the obtained results can be applied to the quality control of herb medicine.展开更多

The results demonstrate that, in the traditional patrilineal Chinese family, both genetic relatedness and the cultural factor of generation were important in determining kinship status for male agnates (genetically related relatives). For female agnates, however, only genetic relatedness was important. Another surprising finding was that the influence of gender was not as important as genetic relatedness. The most interesting finding in this study, however, was that kin selection and culture (i.e., seniority in generation and age) played vastly different roles in different lineages in the Chinese family: for collateral (indirect) agnates, genetic relatedness was the most important factor in determining their kinship status, but for lineal (direct) agnates, its importance was overridden by seniority in generation and age, a cultural factor. Several other bio-cultural factors also explained a considerable amount of variance in kinship status. Since kinship profoundly affected, and was often the foundation of, the legal and social systems in dynastic China, kin selection, while its strength may differ remarkably between lineal and collateral relatives, could act as a selective force in Chinese families展开更多

Here we report a highly efficient approach to induce human embryonic stem (ES) cells and induced pluripo- tent stem (iPS) cells to differentiate into mature insulin-producing cells in a chemical-defined culture system. The differentiated human ES cells obtained by this approach comprised nearly 25% insulin-positive cells as assayed by flow cytometry analysis, which released insulin/C-peptide in response to glucose stimuli in a manner comparable to that of adult human islets. Most of these insulin-producing cells co-expressed mature β cell-specific markers such as NKX6-1 and PDX1, indicating a similar gene expression pattern to adult islet β cells in vivo. In this study, we also demonstrated that EGF facilitates the expansion of PDXl-positive pancreatic progenitors. Moreover, our protocol also succeeded in efficiently inducing human iPS cells to differentiate into insuIin-producing ceils. Therefore, this work not only provides a new model to study the mechanism of human pancreatic specialization and maturation in vitro, but also enhances the possibility of utilizing patient-specific iPS cells for the treatment of diabetes.展开更多

Understanding effect of the gradients on soil properties is necessary for management of the soils around urban areas. In this study, soil quality of some vegetable fields was characterized along an urban-rural gradient in Shaoxing County, Zhejiang Province. Fifteen soil physical and chemical properties were evaluated by using principal component analysis. Results showed that there was a great variation in the soil quality along the gradient. From rural to urban zones, soil organic matter, water-stable aggregates, cation exchangeable capacity (CEC), total N and P, and available K increased, whereas soil pH value decreased. In addition, Pb, Cu, Ni, Co, Zn and Cr in the soils tended to be accumulated toward the urban zone. Sequential chemical extraction showed that mobility of all the heavy metals in the soils tended to increase from the rural to the urban zones. The variation of soil properties accounted for by the first principal component was significantly explained by the difference in application rates of municipal wastes.展开更多

The hot water extract did not show any spectrum of activity against the selected bacteria while the cold water extract showed slight antibacterial activity suggesting that the effective components are heat labile. The ethanolic extracts of the leaves have higher antibiotic spectrum of activity than the cold water extract showing ethanol to be a better solvent in extracting the effective component. The fallen leaves seem to have a higher concentration of the effective component against the bacteria while ethanolic extract of the fresh leaves have similar spectrum of activity to Ciprofloxacin and Nitrofuratoin. These suggest that some effective components are lost when leaves fall off while some seem to increase in concentration. Fresh and fallen leaves contain tannin and flavonoids. In addition, the fallen leaves contain flavones. This might be responsible for the higher activity of fallen leaves extract observed against Pseudomonas and Staphylococcus spp. in our study. Combined use of extracts from fresh and fallen leaves broadened the spectrum of activity.展开更多

The pots experiment was laid out in randomised complete bloc design with five treatments and four replications. Water, nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, sodium, total proteins and total lipids contents of the leaves, shoots and tubers were determined. After 9 months growing period, results showed that fertilizer types enriched with K, PK and NPK significantly increased the organic compounds contents of the leaves (P〈0.05). Furthermore, fertilizers with high phosphorus content significantly increased the lipid contents of the leaves (25%). Fertilizers enriched with NPK positively influenced the biomass partitioning in Manihot esculenta. Application of fertilizers enriched with NPK led to higher levels of total proteins in the leaves and tubers (70 mg g DM^-1 and 30 mg g DM^-1 respectively) compared to control (17 mg g DM^-1 and 9 mg g DM^-1 respectively). These results help to demonstrate the value of these fertilizers enrichment to improve the chemical composition and dry matter partitioning of cassava.展开更多

Studied Tanacetum taxa showed congruency with the discription in Flora of Turkey as morphological properties; on the contrary essential oil composition were detected very quiet diverse infrageneric level. Chemotypes of Tanacetum L. taxa were reported as borneol, germacrene D, spathulenol, α-pinene, 1,8-cineole, β-pinene and camphor. The results obtained from this study were discussed in terms of chemotaxonomy and natural products.

文摘Aerosol is an important component of the atmosphere, and its source, composition, distribution, and effects are highly complicated.Governments and scientists have given much attention to aerosol problems, and it has become a hot topic due to the important role it plays in climate change and the Earth's environment. In this paper,1) the importance of aerosol in climate change, the atmospheric environment, and human health is summarized;2) the recent serious problems of aerosol pollution and the shortage of current aerosol research in China are pointed out;and 3) the necessity to enhance aerosol research in China is emphasized.
文摘Eight flavonoid derivatives: rutin, quercetin-3-glucoside, quercetin, luteolin-7-glucoside, isorhmnetin-3-sulphate, kaempferol-3,7-diglucoside,'luteolin and kaempferol have been extracted and characterized from Nipa palm. Mild extraction technique involving the use of HPLC-DAD-MS was used. The structures of the flavonoids were determined on the basis of mass spectroscopy. Separation of the crude extract by paper chromatography (PC) on forestall as solvent system gave one major yellowish brown spot which had Rf value of 3.9. The Rf value and maximum absorption from UV spectroscopy were the same as those of quercetin standard. The most prominent compound was quercetin followed by three others: kaempferol-3,7-diglucoside, luteolin-7-glucoside, and isorhmnetin-3 -sulphate.
文摘Chemical composition of Brahman cattle was studied and determined in this study. Fifty males had been castrated at birth, farmed semi-intensively on the Venezuelan plain and then slaughtered at the age of 31 months with an approximate weight of 500 kilograms. The average pH value of beef was 5,84 after obtained for 24 hours after staughtering, which matches the ~atue found in similar studies made on the same breed in Venezuela (5.8). The moisture, crude protein and ash contents correspond to the expected values of cattle, while the intramuscular fat values are slightly higher than those of the different breeds ofBos indicus. The total collagen values found in this study are either similar or lower than those found by other researches from the different breeds ofBos indicus and their crossbreeds, while the collagen solubility value (39%) was higher than the one found in other studies on the Brahman breed.
文摘In the work reported here, the potential of different methods (cold and hot water, and ethanolic) of extraction of Indian almond (Terminalia catappa L.), fresh and fallen leaves as an anti-bacterial agent was investigated. Combined use of extracts from fresh and fallen leaves broadened the spectrum of activity.
文摘The objective of our study was to determine the effects of four types of fertilisers enrichments (manure potassic (K), phosphatic (P), phosphatic and potassic (PK) and nitrogenized, phosphated and potassic (NPK)) on chemical composition and dry matter in cassava (Manihot esculenta) organs (clone 1171) during harvest period. These results help to demonstrate the value of these fertilizers enrichment to improve the chemical composition and dry matter partitioning of cassava.
