Rice germplasms with significant differ- ences in resistant starch content were screened by the rice germplasm resource project team in Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, to analyze the differences in RVA eigenvalues and starch crystal thermodynamic properties using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The result showed that three rice materials with high contents of resistant starch exhibited low breakdown viscosity and high setback vis- cosity; three rice materials with low contents of resistant starch exhibited high breakdown viscosity and low setback viscosity. Significant differences were observed in RVA eigenvalues and starch crystal thermodynamic properties among rice germplasms with different contents of resistant starch, which provided new indices for breeding functional rice cultivars with high resistant starch content.展开更多
This study was carried out to investigate the possibility of titanium alloy metal powder production using low-power plasma torches.An argon DC non-transferred arc plasma torch was designed,and numerical analysis was c...This study was carried out to investigate the possibility of titanium alloy metal powder production using low-power plasma torches.An argon DC non-transferred arc plasma torch was designed,and numerical analysis was conducted to determine the plasma jet properties and wire temperature.The highest velocities inside the nozzle attachment were between 838 and 1178 m/s.The velocities of the jets at the apex were between 494 and 645 m/s for different gas flow rates.The studied plasma gas flow rates had no significant effect on the effective plasma jet length.It was shown that the plasma jet length can be estimated by numerical analysis using the temperature and velocity changes of the plasma jet over distance.It was observed that the powders produced were spherical without any satellites.As a result of this study,a plasma torch was developed and powder production was performed successfully by using relatively low torch power.展开更多

Besides, in this study, a kinetic model for the Zr-B-C-O sys- tem producing ZrB2 by boro/carbothermal reaction was established based on thermodynamic analysis. Our dynamic laser light scattering(LLS) study shows that the current widely used protocols of dissolving amyloidogenic protein/peptide do not really result in a true solution;namely,there always exist a trace amount o...Our dynamic laser light scattering(LLS) study shows that the current widely used protocols of dissolving amyloidogenic protein/peptide do not really result in a true solution;namely,there always exist a trace amount of interchain aggregates,which greatly affect the association kinetics,partially explaining why different kinetics were reported even for a solution with identical protein and solvent.Recently,using a combination of the conventional dissolution procedure and our newly developed ultra-filtration method,we have developed a novel protocol to prepare a true solution of amyloidogenic protein/peptide without any interchain aggregates.The resultant solutions remain in their monomeric state for at least one week,which is vitally important for further study of the very initial stage of the interchain association under the physiological conditions because more and more evidence suggests that it is those small oligomers rather than large fabric aggregates that are cytotoxic.In addition,this study shows that combining static and dynamic LLS can lead to more physical and microscopic information about the protein association instead of only the size distribution.展开更多
