The limit and the problem of modern religion and science are due to the materialistic, mechanistic, and dichotomous thought that separates humanity from God, spirit from body and I from you. Indicating that the methodology is wrong, the author will suggest an alternative to solve its problem. In the body, the author will introduce the paranormal phenomena focusing on the descending of the Holy Spirit by the Victor on NRMs in Korea. The author will speak of the differences between Aura and the light of the Holy Spirit using some new methodologies of participant observation by film photo-graphing and interviewing testimonies from fieldwork. Furthermore the author attempted to research scientifically how the light of life emitted from the Victor influences humanity and all things. The author will tell the theory of bio scientific and biblical salvation and immortality based on somatic. This paper will contribute in revealing the invisible God and the Holy Spirit to be physically seen.

On Contemplative Psychology

This paper is a revised version of a seminal paper, written as early as 1986, that introduces the concept of contemplative psychology as a psychology that is an intrinsic part of the contemplative traditions of most world religions. It refers to the psychological insights and methods that are-often implicitly-present in the spiritual traditions themselves. The paper delineates this psychology as a psychology in its own right and in dialogue with the conventional view of psychology and science. Later research by the author has been published in two books entitled Contemplative Psychology and The Spiritual Path： An Introduction to the Psychology of the Spiritual Traditions.

The Effect of Music Therapy for Patients With Huntington＇s Disease： A Systematic Literature Review

Huntington＇s disease is a progressive, neurodegenerative, and autosomal dominant disease characterized by motor- and psychiatric disturbances, and cognitive decline. Since there is no cure, all treatment is aimed at improving quality of life. One form of non-drug therapy which is barely recognized, is music therapy. The literature on its use and effect in patients with Huntington＇s disease is limited. We therefore performed a detailed literature survey in order to delineate the different types of music therapy interventions and their aims. Music therapy studies were included when targeting： （1） motor disturbances; （2） cognitive disturbances; （3） psychiatric disturbances; and （4） emotional/social disturbances. A total of eight studies that met these criteria were analyzed. We found that music therapy interventions vary throughout the different stages of the disease and are not yet applied optimally. Not the stage of the disease but the individual treatment goals seem to be more determinative for the music therapy indications. In conclusion, precise aims and methods in relation to the stage of the disease are not well determined. There is a need for systematic study of this treatment option.

Severe hyperhomocysteinemia due to MTHFR deficiency caused by a new mutation:A case report and literature review

Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(MTHFR)deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused by mutations in the MTHFR gene,leading to a variety of clinical manifestations.In October 2022,the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University admitted a 21-year-old male patient with neuropsychiatric disorders,presenting primarily with cognitive decline,limb tremors,abnormal mental and behavioral symptoms,seizures,and gait disturbances.These symptoms had gradually developed over 5 years,worsening significantly in the past year.The patient’s plasma homocysteine levels were 10 times higher than normal,and brain MRI revealed brain atrophy and significant abnormal signals in the bilateral paraventricular nuclei and heads of the bilateral caudate nuclei.Further genetic testing identified a paternal mutation c.1604G>A(p.R535Q)and a maternal mutation c.227T>G(p.L76R)of the MTHFR gene.After betaine supplementation,the plasma homocysteine levels decreased within a week,and the symptoms improved.The patient was ultimately diagnosed with severe hyperhomocysteinemia due to MTHFR deficiency.The c.227T>G(p.L76R)mutation represents a novel missense mutation in the MTHFR gene associated with MTHFR deficiency,but further research is needed to confirm its potential pathogenicity.Early treatment with betaine can fully reverse the symptoms.

Ideological Expectations for Value Consensus in Chinese Society

Surveys have shown that popular ideology has tended to move from pluralism to clustering around dualism at this sensitive and critical moment for the formation of value consensus in contemporary China. The formation of a “value consensus” or “common values”must answer three questions： “What is ‘common＇ about this consensus？” How can “consensus” be reached？ “How can‘values＇ be legitimated？”On the basis of survey information, this paper presents the basic argument that what is common lies in ethics; consensus in spirit; and value legitimacy in our national cultural home. Ordinary people have three major ideological expectations of value consensus in contemporary China： expectation of ethical enlightenment with the theme of turning ＂I＂ into ＂we＂; expectation of a spiritual baptism with the value ＂unity of the individual and the universal＂ and expectation of the endeavor to ＂return home.＂ Specifically, their content is as follows： to protect ethical existence and undertake the reenlightenment of ethical consciousness at the national, family and group levels; to sublate ＂atomistic exploration＂ of the theory and mode of rationalistic ethics and carry out the ＂spiritual＂ construction of the three great ethical entities of society, state and family; and to ＂go back home＂ to national cultural traditions and ethics and build value legitimacy. These three major expectations can be condensed into three ideas： protecting ethics, reviving ＂spirit＂ and going back ＂home.＂

Effect of reinforcing kidney-essence, removing phlegm, and promoting mental therapy on treating Alzheimer's disease

OBJECTIVE: To explore the mechanism of reinforcing kidney-essence, removing phlegm, and promoting mental therapy in treating Alzheimer's disease (AD). METHODS: Sixty patients with AD in Wuhan No.1 Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Geriatrics from May 2009 to April 2011 were randomly divided into two groups, with 30 in each group. Patients in Bushenhuatanyizhi group (BHY group) took BHY instant granules (6 g, twice per day). Patients in the control group took piracetam (0.8 g, 3 times per day). There were twelve weeks in a course. Changes in the mini-mental state examination (MMSE) score and Activity of Daily Living Scale (ADL) score were analyzed before and after treatment. RESULTS: MMSE scores in the two groups in-creased and ADL scores decreased after treatment, compared with those before treatment (both P< 0.05).The total effective rate was 86.67% in the BHY group (10 very effective, 13 effective, 7 non-responsive). The control group was 57.69% (5 very effective, 16 effective, 9 non-responsive) (P<0.05). Superoxide dismutase levels were increased, lipid peroxide and triglyceride levels decreased after treatment in the BHY group as compared with the control group. CONCLUSION: Reinforcing kidney-essence, removing phlegm, and promoting mental therapy can improve cognitive function and daily life of AD patients. The mechanism of the therapy might be related to improving blood fat, scavenging free radicals, and inhibiting lipid peroxides.

Brain expression quantitative trait locus mapping informs genetic studies of psychiatric diseases

Genome-wide association study（GWAS） can be used to identify genes that increase the risk of psychiatric diseases.However,much of the disease heritability is still unexplained,suggesting that there are genes to be discovered.Functional annotation of the genetic variants may increase the power of GWAS to identify disease genes,by providing prior information that can be used in Bayesian analysis or in reducing the number of tests.Expression quantitative trait loci（eQTLs） are genomic loci that regulate gene expression.Genetic mapping of eQTLs can help reveal novel functional effects of thousands of single nucleotide polymorphisms（SNPs）.The present review mainly focused on the current knowledge on brain eQTL mapping,and discussed some major methodological issues and their possible solutions.The frequently ignored problems of batch effects,covariates,and multiple testing were emphasized,since they can lead to false positives and false negatives.The future application of eQTL data in GWAS analysis was also discussed.

Schizophrenia:a classic battle ground of nature versus nurture debate

Much has been learned about the etiology and pathogenesis of schizophrenia since the term was first used by Eugene Bleuler over a century ago to describe one of the most important forms of major mental illness to affect mankind.Both nature and nurture feature prominently in our understanding of the genesis of the overall risk of developing schizophrenia.We now have a firm grasp of the broad structure of the genetic architecture and several key environmental risk factors have been identified and delineated.However,much of the heritability of schizophrenia remains unexplained and the reported environmental risk factors do not explain all the variances not attributable to genetic risk factors.The biggest problem at present is that our understanding of the causal mechanisms involved is still in its infancy.In this review,we describe the extent and limits of our knowledge of the specific genetic/constitutional and non-genetic/environmental factors that contribute to the overall risk of schizophrenia.We suggest novel methods may be required to understand the almost certainly immensely complex multi-level causal mechanisms that contribute to the generation of the schizophrenia phenotype.

DNA methylation in schizophrenia: progress and challenges

Schizophrenia is a heterogeneous psychiatric disorder broadly accepted being caused by genetic and environmental factors. Although conventional genetic studies have identified some candidate genes for schizophrenia, low odds ratios and penetrance, and a lack of reproducibility have limited their explanatory power. Despite the major efforts made toward identifying environmental factors in schizophrenia, methodological limitations and inconsistent findings of epidemiological reports have obstructed attempts to identify exogenous causal factors. Epigenetic mechanisms, mediating between environment and genes, have recently been proposed to play an important role in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. DNA methylation is the most stable and well-characterized epigenetic modification. In this paper, we briefly introduce DNA methylation mechanisms, genome-wide DNA methylation studies, and identify specific genomic methylation sites in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. The outline candidate genes such as Reelin and COMT, are also outlined before paying attention to the conundrum of recent researches.

Autism genetics: Methodological issues and experimental design

Autism is a complex neuropsychiatric disorder of developmental origin, where multiple genetic and environmental factors likely interact resulting in a clinical continuum between "affected" and "unaffected" individuals in the general population. During the last two decades, relevant progress has been made in identifying chromosomal regions and genes in linkage or association with autism, but no single gene has emerged as a major cause of disease in a large number of patients. The purpose of this paper is to discuss specific methodological issues and experimental strategies in autism genetic research, based on fourteen years of experience in patient recruitment and association studies of autism spectrum disorder in Italy.
