They divide through binary fission. Selection of the chloroplast division site is pivotal for the symmetric chloroplast division. In E. coli, positioning of the division site at the midpoint of the cell is regulated by dynamic oscillation of the Min system, which includes MinC, MinD and MinE. Homologs of MinD and MinE in plants are involved in chloroplast division. The homolog of MinC still has not been identified in higher plants. However, an FtsZ-like protein, ARC3, was found to be involved in chloroplast division site positioning. Here, we report that chloroplast division site positioning 1 (AtCDP1) is a novel chloroplast division protein involved in chloroplast division site placement in Arabidopsis. AtCDP1 was discovered by screening an Arabidopsis cDNA expression library in bacteria for colonies with a cell division phenotype. AtCDP1 is exclusively expressed in young green tissues in Arabidopsis. Elongated chloroplasts with multiple division sites were observed in the loss-of-function cdpl mutant. Overexpression of AtCDP1 caused a chloroplast division phenotype too. Protein interaction assays suggested that AtCDP1 may mediate the chloroplast division site positioning through the interaction with ARC3. Overall, our results indicate that AtCDP1 is a novel component of the chloroplast division site positioning system, and the working mechanism of this system is different from that of the traditional MinCDE system in prokaryotic cells.展开更多

Through deduction, it can be found out that treated appraise precision can be directly analyzed and deduced without carrying out real measure and reaching estimation value. The simulation result shows that the system performance based on the weighted least square method is much better than the traditional passive location method, and it can be also used for reference to the research of the location algorithm of similar system.展开更多

The system will be able to make an analysis that assures a more efficient management of each plant and of the whole system. In the first part of this study, the features of the monitoring system that allows to monitor the operating parameters and to discover the issues before they actually become dangerous for the plant have been identified. The data collected in the different solar thermal systems realized in Italian jails have been analyzed. The results of these elaborations allowed us both to find out some anomalies of functioning of the plants, and to optimize the management of the whole plant in a more efficient way.展开更多

We firstly propose a framework of the frequency allocation in which the whole frequency allocation process is decomposed into many consecutive stages, then identify that for each stage the key is to find the Maximum Weight Independent Set (MWIS) in a given weighted conflict graph in the distributed manner. A new distributed algorithm for MWIS is described in which each node iteratively exchanges messages with neighbors. With this distributed MWIS algorithm, a new distributed proportional fair frequency allocation scheme is presented. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested in computer experiments simulating the Long Term Evolution (LTE) cellular systems. Simulation results show the performance of the proposed distributed proportional fair frequency allocation scheme is comparable with the centralized ones.展开更多

This is done by includ- ing phylogenetic hypotheses into statistical analyses of species' traits, for which birds often serve as excellent models. The online publication of the most complete molecular phylogeny of extant bird species (www.birdtree.org, BirdTree hereafter) now allows evolutionary biologists to rapidly obtain sets of equally plausible phylogenetic trees for any set of species to be incorporated as a phylogenetic hypothesis in comparative analyses. We discuss methods to use BirdTree tree sets for comparative studies, either by building a consensus tree that can be incorporated into standard comparative analyses, or by using tree sets to account for the ef- fect of phylogenetie uncertainty. Methods accounting for phylogenetic uncertainty should be preferred whenever possible because they should provide more reliable parameter estimates and realistic confidence intervals around them. Based on a real compara- tive dataset, we ran simulations to investigate the effect of variation in the size of the random tree sets downloaded from BirdTree on the variability of parameter estimates from a bivariate relationship between mass-specific productivity and body mass. Irre- spective of the method of analysis, using at least 1,000 trees allows obtaining parameter estimates with very small (〈 0.15%) co- efficients of variation. We argue that BirdTree, due to the ease of use and the major advantages over previous 'traditional' meth- ods to obtain phylogenetic hypotheses of bird species (e.g. supertrees or manual coding of published phylogenies), will become the standard reference in avian comparative studies for years to come.展开更多
