The concepts and quantitative expressions of the steering road feel, steering sensibility, and steering operation stability are introduced. Based on quality engineering theory, the optimization algorithm is proposed by integrating the Monte Carlo descriptive sampling, elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) and 6-sigma design method. With the steering road feel and the steering portability as optimization targets, the system parameters are optimized by the proposed optimization algorithm. The simulation results show that the system optimized based on quality engineering theory can improve the steering road feel, guarantee steering stability and steering portability and thus provide a theoretical basis for the design and optimization of the novel electric power steering system.展开更多

Existing hydraulic braking systems in the vehicle is composed of the brake pedal, the hydraulic booster and the hydraulic caliper. The driver transmits one's breaking intent through the brake pedal stroke and force. ...Existing hydraulic braking systems in the vehicle is composed of the brake pedal, the hydraulic booster and the hydraulic caliper. The driver transmits one's breaking intent through the brake pedal stroke and force. The hydraulic booster can amplify the pedal force, only when the engine operates. The hydraulic caliper is composed of cylinders, pistons. There are also hydraulic pipes from the booster to the caliper. Currently, X-By-Wire technology is researched actively due to the exhaustion of fuel and the regulation of CO2. As a chain of this trend, the e-pedal and an electric mechanical brake (EMB) also are highlighted. At the beginning of EMB development, high-torque and high-power motors are required in order to implement the existing hydraulic calipers' clamping force. This has some limits as the need of big spaces and high costs. Then the electro wedge brake (EWB) is launching with self-reinforcement features of the wedge structure. EWB can generate big clamping forces with small size and low-torque motors with good braking-efficiency. In recent, the disc's circumferential face clamping one has been researched, for better heat-emission ability and better braking-efficiency compared to the existing disc's lateral face clamping method. But, this circumferential face clamping method can have worse unbalance-wear features compared to lateral face clamping one. In this study, the authors describe their circumferential EWB concepts, the method for reducing unbalance-wear feature of circumferential EWB, and the cost-effective implementation of circumferential EWB, in particular focused on nonlinear counter-wedge profile which is appropriate to reduce unbalance-wear.展开更多

In order to fully mobilize social capital to invest in energy, enhance energy investment efficiency, expand energy financing channels,and increase the vitality of the energy industry, the state has recently issued the Implementing Opinions on Deepening the Reform of Investment and the Financing System in the Energy Industry( "Opinions"). This is a very serious problem and there are various solutions to deal with it. A power deficit in the EPS leads to frequency decrease in the power system. A dedicated automation to load shedding is used to maintain proper EPS operation. For some time, it has applied a mechanism called demand-side response, which in case of an emergency situation allows for a "more civilized" rationing of electricity to customers, with their consent. Such programs require that the utilities pay the customers for their agreement. The author proposes a new solution, intermediate between strict ALS (acting relieving automation) and demand-side response programs, where the companies have to send information about the price of energy or control signals to households.展开更多

In transforming the design concept to a finished product, in particula...Recognizing the drawbacks of stand-alone computer-aided tools in engineering, several hybrid systems are suggested with varying degree of success. In transforming the design concept to a finished product, in particular, smooth interfacing of the design data is crucial to reduce product cost and time to market. Having a product model that contains the complete product description and computer-aided tools that can understand each other are the primary requirements to achieve the interfacing goal. This article discusses the development methodology of hybrid engineering software systems with particular focus on application of soft computing tools such as genetic algorithms and neural networks. Forms of hybridization options are discussed and the applications are elaborated using two case studies. The forefront aims to develop hybrid systems that combine the strong side of each tool, such as, the learning, pattern recognition and classification power of neural networks with the powerful capacity of genetic algorithms in global search and optimization. While most optimization tasks need a certain form of model, there are many processes in the mechanical engineering field that are difficult to model using conventional modeling techniques. The proposed hybrid system solves such difficult-to-model processes and contributes to the effort of smooth interfacing design data to other downstream processes.展开更多
