[Objective] The aim was to study the effect of tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) infection on leaf anatomical structure and protective enzyme system of tomato. [Method] The anatomical structure of infected and healthy leaves of tomato were observed and compared by using paraffin section method. The activity changes of SOD, POD and CAT in the infected leaves of tomato were determined. [ Result] The results revealed that there were some differences in anatomical structure between healthy and infected leaves. Some cells of infected leaves were damaged so that the leaves curled and became yellow, which affected the normal function of organs. Compared with control, enzyme activities in the tomato plants infected by TYLCV were enhanced at the early periods and higher than that in control, then started to decline at the middle and late periods but lower than that in control.[ Conclusion] After infection by TYLCV, the leaf anatomical structure of tomato was changed greatly and the protective enzyme system was damaged severely, and affected the normal physJological metabolic functions of tissues and organs in tomato in further. 展开更多

In this report, a conservation priority scenario for endemic birds of China's Mainland is proposed from a phylogenetic perspective. By utilizing and comparing seven phylogenetic diversity (PD) indices, the study shows that the top ifve endemic birds with high conservation priority are Ar-borophila ardens, A. gingica, A. ruifpectus, Lophophorus lhuysii and Alectoris magna respectively. The ranking of species, based on the IUCN Red List and PD indices, were compared by means of a Wilcox signed rank test and Pearson’s correlation, drawing the inference that the PD ranking of endemic birds for China's Mainland shows a distinct and statistically signiifcant difference from the IUCN rank-ing. Therefore, the ranking of conservation priority for endemic birds of China using PD indices might offer new insights on species conservation from an evolutionary-heritage perspective, serving as a complement to the IUCN ranking. 展开更多

In order to ensure the security of information systems, it's essential to make sure that system behaviors are trusted. By analyzing threats that exist in executing procedures, a trust model based on structured protection is proposed. We consider that functional components, system actions and message flows between components are three key factors of information systems. Structured protection requirements on components, connections and action parameters are also provided. Four trusted properties of the model are deducted through formal analysis, and trusted system behavior is defined based on these properties. Furthermore, decision theorem of trusted system behavior is proved. The developed prototype system indicates the model is practical. It is a general theory model built on logic deduction and independent on specific environment and the behaviors of the system designed and implemented following the model are trusted. 展开更多

Mine refuge chambers are used to shield miners who fail to escape from the mine when incidents occur. Environment maintaining system plays a key role in stabilizing thermal environment of a mine refuge chamber against heat emitted from metabolism and transferred from outside. The safety and comfort of refugees are closely related to the environment maintaining system design. In order to improve the comfort of refugees, optimization on the environment maintaining system has been done based on the previous work. To evaluate the environment of the chamber, eight volunteers were involved into the experiment. Under close observation and safety protection, they lived in a heat-isolated test chamber for 106 hours. The volunteers were asked to maintain low level of activities to simulate refugees' situation. It shows that the environment maintaining system worked well and the temperature, relative humidity and emitted harmful air content such as CO2 and CO were all kept in the safety level, and no discomfort was felt by volunteers at all. 展开更多

Possible mediatory roles of heat acclimation and salicylic acid in protecting the sporophyte of marine macroalga Laminaria japonica(Phaeophyceae) from heat stress were studied.Heat stress resulted in oxidative injury in the kelp blades.Under heat stress significant accumulation of hydrogen peroxide(H_2O_2) and malonaldehyde(MDA),a membrane lipid peroxidation product,and a drastic decrease in chlorophyll a content were recorded.Activity of the enzymatic antioxidant system was drastically affected by heat stress.The activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) was significantly increased while peroxidase(POD),catalase(CAT) and glutathione peroxidase(GPX) were greatly inhibited and,simultaneously,phenylalanine ammonia-lyase was activated while polyphenol oxidase(PPO) was inhibited.Both heat acclimation pretreatment and exogenous application of salicylic acid alleviated oxidative damage in kelp blades.Blades receiving heat acclimation pretreatment and exogenous salicylic acid prior to heat stress exhibited a reduced increase in H_2O_2 and MDA content,and a lower reduction in chlorophyll a content.Pretreatment with heat acclimation and salicylic acid elevated activities of SOD,POD,CAT,GPX and PPO.Considering these results collectively,we speculate that the inhibition of antioxidant enzymes is a possible cause of the heat-stress-induced oxidative stress in L.japonica,and enhanced thermotolerance may be associated,at least in part,with the elevated activity of the enzymatic antioxidant system. 展开更多

In this paper,the network reliability of an actual digital instrument and control system (DICS) network is analyzed by using GO-FLOW methodology (GFM).The evaluations of common-cause failure (CCF) and uncertainty are incorporated.Three significant CCF groups (real time servers,gateways,reactor protection system) and three typical time intervals (10 min,1 h,and 24 h) are selected in the analysis.It is concluded that the network contribution of CCF accounts for over 68% of the system failure probability.The result indicates that GFM is suitable for the network reliability analysis. 展开更多

Phosphorus(P),as a limiting nutrient,plays a crucial role in the mountainous ecosystem development.Its biogeochemical cycle in mountainous ecosystems determines the bioavailability and sustainable supply of P,and thus becomes a crucial process which needs to be fully understood and described for ecological and environmental conservation.However,most of research about P biogeochemical processes has been carried out in aquatic environment and agronomic field,but rare researches have been done in mountain ecosystem.In the present review,we summarize researches on P biogeochemical cycle concerning mountain ecosystem in recent decades,including rock weathering,the release,transformation and bioavailability of P,interactions between the P biological cycle and microbial and plant life,as well as the development of models.Based on the state of art,we propose the future work on this direction,including the integration of all these research,the development of a practical model to understand the P biogeochemical cycle and its bioavailability,and to provide a reference for ecological and environmental conservation of mountainous ecosystems and lowland aquatic systems. 展开更多

Analysis of the Estonian Forest Conservation Area Network

Estonian Forestry Development Programme set in 2003 ambitious goal that area of strictly protected forests should increase at least to 10% from total forest area in Estonia before 2010 by expanding the area of old-growth under protection, improving the representativeness of conservation areas and establishment of large conservation sites. Inventory of forests was carried out on existing and possible new conservation areas within the Estonian Forest Conservation Area Network project (EFCAN) in 1999-2001. EFCAN project had remarkable results. The share of strictly protected forests has increased to 7.8% of total forest area by 2009 and the network of conservation areas is quite well covering all forest ecosystems in Estonia. Several selected areas are still not protected for different reasons. These areas should still be considered for protection as the areas may lose their conservation value. Several forest types (meso-eutrophic, eutrophic boreo-nemoral and eutrophic paludifying forests) should have larger area for conservation and large disturbance areas (wind damage, forest fire) should be also included into the network. 展开更多

In addition, land subsidence of 5 to 10 centimetres per year is taking place. The climate change phenomenon provokes land areas that are lower than sea water level from time to time. This makes the situation with respect to flooding increasingly risky. Semarang Old City (heritage) as part of principal Semarang area is suffering also from regular flooding and pollution that hamper the revitalisation of the old city. These areas used to be productive lands, but flooding make the existing public infrastructure does no longer function, and residential areas have changed into unhealthy slams. To overcome these problems, the Government of Semarang chooses a polder drainage system to address the flooding in Semarang. In the framework of the cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands, these activities consist of research and workshops on Urban Heritage. The scope consists basically of five components: experiences with urban drainage and flood protection in Semarang with a focus on Semarang Old City, field visit to relevant places with respect to urban drainage and flood protection of Semarang Old City, lectures on the relevant aspects of urban drainage and flood protection, exercises to get an insight in the processes that can take place under normal and extreme conditions, formulation of a preliminary plan to improve the situation with respect to urban drainage and flood protection of Semarang Old City. In this paper, the various relevant points are described, such as scenarios analysis as well as the findings and recommendations for improvement of the urban drainage system and flood protection of Semarang Heritage City. 展开更多
