Conceptual metaphors belong to traditional vocabulary metaphors, and ideational grammatical metaphors are pointed out by Halliday--the main representative of systemic-functional theory. This paper elaborates on the specific grammatical feature of EST (English for Science and Technology) text--"nominalization of processes" to reveal the source of ideational metaphors. From the analysis of some examples, it is found that nominalization as a grammatical metaphor expresses the transference between process types, so it reveals the essence of ideational grammatical metaphors. Meanwhile, the comparison made between grammatical metaphors and vocabulary metaphors reflects the similarities between conceptual metaphors and ideational metaphors. In this way, this paper comes to the conclusion that the combination of the study methods of metaphors from both cognitive and systemic-functional perspectives is the best way to uncover the basic characteristic of human thinking.展开更多

They influence marine eco...Two species of jellyfish, Cyanea nozakii Kishinouye and Nemopilema nomurai Kishinouye, have occurred offcoastal areas of the northeastern China Sea, Yellow Sea, and Bohai Sea in recent years. They influence marine ecosystem safety and fishery production, and also pose a risk to human health. The current study examined the hemolytic and cytotoxic activities of crude venoms extracted from the nematocysts of C. nozakii and N. nomurai. The results showed that there were more nematocysts on tentacles from C. nozakii than on tentacles of the same length from N. nomurai. The protein concentration per nematocyst extracted from N. nomurai was higher than that from C. nozakii. Both nematocyst venoms showed dose-and timedependent hemolytic activity on erythrocytes from chicken, pigeon, and sheep, with sheep erythrocytes being the most sensitive, with EC 50 values of 69.69 and 63.62 μg/m L over a 30-min exposure with N. nomurai and C. nozakii nematocyst venoms, respectively. A cytotoxic assay of both jellyfish venoms on A431 human epidermal carcinoma cells resulted in IC 50 values of 68.6 and 40.9 μg/mL after 24-h incubation, respectively, with venom from C. nozakii showing stronger cytotoxic activity than that from N. nomurai. The results of current study indicate that nematocyst venom from C. nozakii had stronger hemolytic and cytotoxic activities than that from N. nomurai and, thus, C. nozakii might be more harmful to the health of humans and other species than are N. nomurai when they appear in coastal waters.展开更多

Motivated by the ideas of multi-scale representations in the wavelet theory, in the new model, a Gaussian process is represented at a scale by a linear basis that is composed of a scale function and its different translations. Finally the distribution of the targets of the given samples can be obtained at different scales. Compared with the standard Gaussian Processes (GP) model, the MGP model can control its complexity conveniently just by adjusting the scale pa-rameter. So it can trade-off the generalization ability and the empirical risk rapidly. Experiments verify the fea-sibility of the MGP model, and exhibit that its performance is superior to the GP model if appropriate scales are chosen.展开更多

In the present study, six transcriptome libraries obtained from two developmental stages, pre-pigmentation and post-pigmentation, were used for paired-end sequencing in the bay scallop Argopecten irradians. In total, 289 839 646 paired-end reads were assembled into 70 929 transcripts. Using BLASTX and BLASTN, 30 896 unigenes were successfully annotated against the SWISS-PROT, NR, and KOG database. Gene ontology annotation and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes classification identified numbers of unigenes involved in biomineralization and pigmentation. Digital gene expression analysis revealed that melanin, trace metal elements and porphyrins are potentially involved in shell coloration of A. irradians.展开更多

Knowledge of the Largest Lyapunov Exponent λ1 of a dynamical system over a bounded attractor is necessary and sufficient for determining whether it is chaotic (λ1>0) or not (λ1≤0). We intended in this work to elaborate the connection between Local Lyapunov Exponents and the Largest Lyapunov Exponent where an alternative method to calculate λ1 has emerged. Finally, we investigated some characteristics of the fixed points and periodic orbits embedded within a chaotic attractor which led to the conclusion of the existence of chaotic attractors that may not embed in any fixed point or periodic orbit within it.展开更多

To date, most of the information about the whole plastid and mitochondrial genomes(ptDNA and mtDNA) of this genus is limited to Northern Hemisphere species. Here, we report the sequencing of the ptDNA and mtDNA of the Antarctic red alga Pyropia endiviifolia using the Illumina platform. The plastid genome(195 784 bp, 33.28% GC content) contains 210 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes and 6 rRNA genes. The mitochondrial genome(34 603 bp, 30.5% GC content) contains 26 protein-coding genes, 25 tRNA genes and 2 rRNA genes. Our results suggest that the organellar genomes of Py. endiviifolia have a compact organization. Although the collinearity of these genomes is conserved compared with other Pyropia species, the genome sizes show significant differences, mainly because of the different copy numbers of rDNA operons in the pt DNA and group II introns in the mtDNA. The other Pyropia species have 2–3 distinct intronic ORFs in their cox 1 genes, but Py. endiviifolia has no introns in its cox 1 gene. This has led to a smaller mtDNA than in other Pyropia species. The phylogenetic relationships within Pyropia were examined using concatenated gene sets from most of the available organellar genomes with both the maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods. The analysis revealed a sister taxa affiliation between the Antarctic species Py. endiviifolia and the North American species Py. kanakaensis.展开更多

Four of these lineages have been previously described as N eotrygon australiae Last, White and Séret, N eotrygon caeruleopunctata Last, White and Séret, N eotrygon orientale Last, White and Séret, and N eotrygon varidens(Garman), but the morphological characters used in the descriptions off ered poor diagnoses and their geographic distributions were not delineated precisely. The objective of the present work is to complete the description of the cryptic species in the complex. Here, an additional four lineages are described as new species on the basis of their mitochondrial DNA sequences: Neotrygon bobwardi, whose distribution extends from the northern tip of Aceh to the western coast of Sumatera; N eotrygon malaccensis, sampled from the eastern part of the Andaman Sea and from the Malacca Strait; N eotrygon moluccensis, from the eastern half of the Banda Sea; and Neotrygon westpapuensis from the central portion of northern West Papua. The geographic distributions of N. australiae, N. coeruleopunctata, N. orientale, and N. varidens are updated. For each species, a diagnosis is provided in the form of a combination of private or partly-private nucleotides at 2–4 nucleotide sites along a 519-base pair fragment of the CO1 gene. We believe that the present taxonomic revision will provide information relevant to the sound management and conservation of cryptic species of the blue-spotted maskray in the Coral Triangle region.展开更多

Their production and export can represent a highly efficient pathway of carbon export. However, the role these fecal pellets play in carbon export in the Changjiang(Yangtze) River estuary is not well known. Two cruises were carried out in the Changjiang estuary in the spring and summer of 2013, during which time carbon biomass, production, and export of copepod fecal pellets were studied. Spring and summer fecal pellet carbon biomass ranged 0.30–1.01 mg C/m^3(mean=0.56±0.20 mg C/m^3) and 0.31–1.18 mg C/m^3(mean=0.64±0.24 mg C/m^3), respectively, significantly lower than phytoplankton. At most stations, fecal pellet carbon biomass was higher in surface or subsurface layers than deeper layers. Production rates ranged 0.65–1.49 pellets/(ind.?h)(mean=1.02±0.27 pellets/(ind.?h)) in spring and 0.62–1.34 pellets/(ind.?h)(mean=0.98±0.22 pellets/(ind.?h)) in summer, within the range reported in previous studies. Higher production rates of fecal pellets occurred at stations with higher chlorophyll a concentrations, and production rates of copepods of size 500–1 000 μm greater than copepods >1 000 μm during both cruises. The potential export flux of fecal pellets was slightly higher in summer(mean=68.95±14.37 mg C/(m^2 ?d)) than spring(mean=52.08±11.33 mg C/(m^2 ?d)) owing to higher summer copepod abundances. To our knowledge, this study is the first of its kind in the Changjiang estuary, and it confirms the significant role of copepod fecal pellets in local carbon export.展开更多

Nevertheless, it is essential that students will be exposed to the treasures of their culture. The author proposes that we introduce the classics through their literary adaptations into children's book, comics, and so on. Adaptation as well as translation involves interpretation. Therefore, through the adaptation, we show the students that classic texts are complicated and potent of many meanings. As an introduction to the works of S. Y. Agnon, the author chose his story "From a Foe to a Friend" (1992). "From a Foe to a Friend" by S. Y. Agnon, is considered to be simple, na'fve story, the plot is linear and accumulative, almost like a folktale or a children's story. And indeed, this story was published (2008) as a children's book with illustrations, and also as a comic book (2012). The author will show how we can use these books, along with the folktale of"The Three Little Pigs" (1890), which the story's plot is based on, to prepare students to the challenge of Agnon's literary work. To our knowledge, this study is the first of its kind in the Changjiang estuary, and it confirms the significant role of copepod fecal pellets in local carbon export.

文摘Based on the technique of integral within an ordered product of nonlinear bosonic operators we construct a kind of tripartite nonlinear entangled states, which can make up a complete set. As its application, we also derive nonlinear 3-mode charge-related entangled state. The essential point for constructing these states lies in choosing the appropriate charge operator.

By analogy between ecology system and economic system, from the angle of total nature resource, total supply ability and total market volume, the theory focuses on the constraint condition and development characteristic of economy as well as the various game characteristics among economies such as independence, competition, and joint competition. According to the math deduction, the author finds that Logistic model is relative with Marthus's model and Zero-growth model.
文摘Teaching literary classics has always been a burden for the teacher; since the language is archaic, and neither the themenor structure appeal to the students, because they are not trivial and do not deal with their immediate problems like puberty or relationships with parents. Nevertheless, it is essential that students will be exposed to the treasures of their culture. The author proposes that we introduce the classics through their literary adaptations into children's book, comics, and so on. Adaptation as well as translation involves interpretation. Therefore, through the adaptation, we show the students that classic texts are complicated and potent of many meanings. As an introduction to the works of S. Y. Agnon, the author chose his story "From a Foe to a Friend" (1992). "From a Foe to a Friend" by S. Y. Agnon, is considered to be simple, na'fve story, the plot is linear and accumulative, almost like a folktale or a children's story. And indeed, this story was published (2008) as a children's book with illustrations, and also as a comic book (2012). The author will show how we can use these books, along with the folktale of"The Three Little Pigs" (1890), which the story's plot is based on, to prepare students to the challenge of Agnon's literary work. The conceptual framework of this paper is based on Polysystem Theory (Even-Zohar, 1990), Translation Theory (Toury, 1995), and adaptation as an interpretation (Shenberg, 1997, 1998).
文摘GC-GIS system is a geochemical data processing system based on fractal theory. The system realized quantity statistics function by calling Surfer and MapInfo software, and it is compiled with Visual Basic language. This system is designed to integrate the functions both quantity statistics of Surfer and spatial data management of MapInfo. A new algorithm of fractal is added up to GC-GIS. Taking example for Weichang region of Hebei to test the system, the processing results show that the model can match the real distribution of mine well.
文摘Grey system theory has been widely applied to many domains such as economy, agriculture, management, Social Sciences and so on. Based on the theory of grey system, this paper established GM(1,1) grey predict model for the first time to forecast The number of Scitech novelty search item and The staff number of Sci-Tech Novelty Search. The predicting results are almost close to the actual values, which shows that the model is reliable so that the models could be used to forecast the two factors in the future years. The study will help the scientific management of Sci-Tech Novelty search work for Novelty search organizations.
