Previous research by the author has shown that the main cause of system unreliability is operator unreliability. There are three main ways to deal with operator unreliability viz improve the environment, enhance the operator′s skill and increase his motivation. Of these, the last is the final untapped area for achieving significant gains in system reliability. Moves to do this by means of competitions for operators at both a local and international level are discussed, with a description of the successes so far.展开更多

A systemic analysis (based on studying both conventional and unorthodox literature) of the modern monetary system points out that the very type of money that is used suffers internal errors that make a crisis inevitable. The indebtedness is systemic and unavoidable in a currency that is issued as a liability. Parallel currencies are proposed as a general solution. A specific solution, including a redefined national currency, is offered too, with an outline of its possible experimental verification. Such a system could help to prevent the next economic crisis, mitigate it, or at least facilitate its leaving. The paper also deals with criticism that is held against the idea of concurrent currencies.展开更多

The expression of the stationary probability distribution function (SPDF) is analytically derived by means of mean-field approximation, and verified by stochastic simulations. The results indicate that: (i) A noise amplitude (a0), a noise autocorrelation time (τ0) and a noise symmetry parameter (k) all can affect the SPDF; (ii) There is an optimal τ0, which makes the mean value of population density be maximal, near which a transition takes place, i.e., the stationary mean value of species density ((x)st) suddenly falls to a lower constant, (iii) As k decreases, the maximum of (x)xt and the optimal 70 increase. The parameter planes of TO -- a20 and τ0- k for the transition are plotted.展开更多

By analyzing the characteristic equation of the linearized system, the local asymptotic stability of the positive equilibrium is investigated. Moreover, we discover the delays don't effect the stability of the equilibrium in the delay system. Finally, we can conclude that the positive equilibrium is global asymptotically stable in the delay system.展开更多

Male mate choice is tightly linked to 2 other phenomena: female competition for males and ornamentation in females. In the current article, I review the existing literature on this in a group of fishes, Poeciliidae. In this group, male mate choice appears to be based on differences in female quality, especially female size, which is a proxy for fecundity. Some males also have to choose between heterospecific and conspecific females in the unusual mating system of the Amazon molly. In this case, they typically show a preference for conspecific females. Whereas male mate choice is relatively well documented for this family, female ornamentation and female competition are not.展开更多

The system, which consists of two Lotka-Volterra patches, has two competitors: one can disperse between the two patches, but the other is confined to one patch and cannot disperse. Our purpose is to demonstrate that the dispersion rates have no effect on the uniform persistence of the solutions of the system. Furthermore, we establish the conditions under which the system admits a positive periodic solution which attracts all solutions.展开更多

For non-delay system, global stability, Turing instability and Hopf bifurcation are studied. For delay system, instability and Hopf bifurcation induced by time delay and global stability of boundary equilibrium are discussed. By the theory of normal form and center manifold method, the conditions for determining the bifurcation direction and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solution are derived.展开更多
