The CFO is estimated in two steps, fine estimate and coarse estimate. In the first step, the fine estimation is performed based on the principle of minimum variance. However, the fine estimation has ambiguity since its estimate range is limited. In the second step, the coarse estimation is obtained, which results in a larger estimate range but less precision. Using the coarse estimation, the ambiguity of fine estimation is resolved. To fully use the correlation among L identical parts, the fine estimation resolved the ambiguity and the coarse estimation are optimally combined to obtain the final estimation. Furthermore, the estimation variance of the proposed method is derived. Simulation results demonstrate that the novel two-step estimator outperforms the conventional two-step estimator in terms of estimate performance and computational complexity.展开更多

However, the carrier frequency offset(CFO) in CE-OFDM systems can cause errors at phase unwrapper module. In this paper, a CFO estimation scheme is proposed for CEOFDM in satellite communication system. As the null subcarrier is inherent in the conjugate symmetric symbol structure at the transmitter, the proposed scheme uses the null subcarrier as prior information to estimate the CFO at the receiver. The ideal estimation range of normalized CFO is obtained by mathematical analysis. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can estimate the CFO accurately under additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) channel and multipath fading channel, especially for moderate and high signal-to-noise ratio(SNR).展开更多

The analytical expression for the Bit Error Rate (BER) of uplink MT-CDMA in the presence of CFO is derived in a multipath Rayleigh fading channel which is verified through simulations. Both Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) and Equal Gain Combining (EGC) are considered in combining multipath signals in the analysis. It is found that the BER performance can be improved with the number of multipath increasing in the presence of CFO.展开更多

ProSync partly shrinks the preamble at the transmitter and exploits two multi-band filters at the receiver. By doing so, the potential interference suffered by NC-OFDM users, including both the cross-band interference and self interference, can be greatly reduced. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of ProSync, which is able to lower the carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation error by up to 50%, compared with the traditional method.展开更多

The Quasi-Constant Envelope Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(QCE-OFDM) technique can achieve both high spectral efficiency and low peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR). Therefore, the QCE-OFDM technique is considered as a promising candidate multi-carrier technique for satellite systems. However, the Doppler effect will cause the carrier frequency offset(CFO), and the non-ideal oscillator will cause the carrier phase offset(CPO) in satellite systems. The CFO and CPO will further result in the bit-error-rate(BER) performance degradation. Hence, it is important to estimate and compensate the CFO and CPO. This paper analyzes the effects of both CFO and CPO in QCE-OFDM satellite systems. Furthermore, we propose a joint CFO and CPO estimation method based on the pilot symbols in the frequency domain. In addition, the optimal pilot symbol structure with different pilot overheads is designed according to the minimum Cramer-Rao bound(CRB) criterion. Simulation results show that the estimation accuracy of the proposed method is close to the CRB.展开更多

Multiple access interference caused by CFOs in the uplink is investigated, as it severely affects the performance of a classical maximum likelihood (ML) frequency estimator. By the use of the estimated CFOs of the active users, the linear maximum mean square error (LMMSE) equalization is performed before the ML frequency estimator for the interference cancellation, which can help to sufficiently improve the estimation accuracy for the residual CFO of the incoming user. Analysis and simulations show that the modified ML estimator provides a tradeoff between estimation accuracy and computational complexity caused by the LMMSE interference cancellation, and the proposed method allows OFDMA systems flexibly allocating subcarriers to users.展开更多

This laser is operated under the conditions of the practical implementation and its frequency with respect to the International Committee for Weights and Measure recommended value is known from international comparisons. Adopting a sampling rate of 120 kHz for the control system of an iodine stabilized He-Ne laser enables frequency deviation of the test laser from the reference laser by + 5 kHz (relative accuracy of 1 ×10^11) thus limited only by the reproducibility of the iodine stabilized He-Ne laser itself.展开更多

Despite this, the temporal dynamics of invasions are poorly understood, with most studies focusing on a single time point, providing us with only a snapshot of the biology and genetics of the invader. We investigated the invasion of Lord Howe Island by the delicate skink Lampropholis delicata and assessed the introduction history and genetic structure of this species over a 5-year period. Using genetic data taken from 2007, and again in 2011/12, we examined changes in the population genetic struc- ture (whether new haplotypes had been introduced to the island, and shifts in haplotype frequencies) of the species on the island between these two time points. No new haplotypes were introduced to the island between 2007 and 2011/12; however, significant shifts in haplotype frequencies across the island were detected. We conclude that the delicate skink is expanding its range into the southern regions of the island and that the haplotype frequencies on Lord Howe Island are still in a state of highly dynamic flux. Our study highlights the importance of considering invasions as dynamic and studying them in such a way that enable us to better manage their impacts展开更多
