The influence of amino DNA probes and thiol DNA modified gold nanoparticles was investigated based on a sandwich hybridization system. An increase in amino probe concentration brought about an increase in hybridization signal which reached a threshold corresponding to the saturated concentration of amino probes bounded onto a glass slide surface. Since the steric hindrance effect of nanoparticles was dominant over the influence of a surface area, the bigger gold nanoparticles led to weaker hybridization signals. The hybridization efficiency enhanced significantly with the increase of the thiol DNA modified nanoparticle concentrations. Experimental results showed that 125 μmol/L of the amino DNA probe concentration, 15 nm of the gold nanoparticle diameter, and 4.07 nmol/L of the thiol DNA modified gold nanoparticle concentration were optimal for the detection system. The hybridization signals can be improved remarkably by choosing optimal hybridization conditions.展开更多

METHODS:We enrolled 81 patients (40 male,41 fe-male) who were diagnosed with fatty liver by ultraso-nographic scan and fulfi lled the inclusion criteria. First anamnesis, anthropometric, clinical, laboratory and imaging features of all participants were recorded and then liver biopsy was performed after gaining consent from patients. Diagnosis of metabolic syndrome was dependent on patients having 3 or more out of 5 risk criteria defined by the WHO. Biopsy specimens were assessed according to Brunt et al's classification. RESULTS:Sixty-nine of the 81 patients had nonalco-holic steatohepatitis (NASH),11 had simple fatty liver and 1 had cirrhosis according to histologic evaluation. Comparisons were made between two groups of NASH patients, those with and without metabolic syndrome. We did not detect statistically significant differences in liver histology between NASH patients with and wit-hout metabolic syndrome. CONCLUSION:NASH can progress without metabolic risk factors or the presence of metabolic syndrome.展开更多

In this paper, fast calibration methods for a ULA's gain and phase errors both in far and near fields are proposed. In the far field, using a single sound source without exact orientation, this method horizontally rotates the array exactly once, performs eigen value decomposition for the covariance matrix of received data, then computes the gain and phase error according to the formulas. In the near field, using the same single sound source, it is necessary to rotate the array horizontally at most three times, build equations according to geometric relations, then solve them. Using the formula proposed in this paper, spherical waves are modified into plane waves. Then eigen values decomposition is performed. These two calibration methods were shown to be valid by simulation and are fast, accurate and easy to use. Finally, an analysis of factors influencing estimation precision is given.展开更多

All seven microsatellite loci were polymorphic, with polymorphism information content(PIC) values ranging from 0.593 to 0.952. Totally 92 alleles were identified, and the number of alleles(Na) and effective alleles(Ne) varied between 4 and 21 and 2.7 and 14.6, respectively. Observed heterozygosity(Ho) values were lower than the expected heterozygosity(He) values(0.526–0.754), which indicated that the seven stocks possessed a rich genetic diversity. Thirty-seven tests were detected for reasonable significant deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Fis values were positive at five loci, suggesting that there was a relatively high degree of inbreeding within stocks. Pairwise Fst values ranged from 0.0225 to 0.151, and most of the stock pairs were moderately differentiated. Genetic distance and cluster analysis using UPGMA revealed a close genetic relationship of L. vannamei between Pop2 and Pop3. AMOVA indicated that the genetic variation among stocks(11.3%) was much lower than that within stocks(88.7%). Although the seven stocks had a certain degree of genetic differentiation and a rich genetic diversity, there is an increasing risk of decreased performance due to inbreeding in subsequent generations.展开更多

In this paper, we report for use of human i PS cells labeled with fluorescent magnetic nanoparticles(FMNPs) for targeted imaging and synergistic therapy of gastric cancer cells in vivo. Methods: Human i PS cells were prepared and cultured for 72 h. The culture medium was collected, and then was coincubated with MGC803 cells. Cell viability was analyzed by the MTT method. FMNP-labeled human i PS cells were prepared and injected into gastric cancer-bearing nude mice. The mouse model was observed using a small-animal imaging system. The nude mice were irradiated under an external alternating magnetic field and evaluated using an infrared thermal mapping instrument. Tumor sizes were measured weekly. Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) was replaced by 10- 40% limestone powder for paste and mortar formulation. Mechanical properties that included compressive strength, water demand and setting times (initial and final) were determined and analysed. The mechanical properties were determined in accordance with ASTM standards. The test results indicated that crushed limestone powder contained about 88.7% CaO in calcite form. A 10-30% and 35-40% limestone content in conjunction with OPC was suitable to produce ASTM type M and S mortars respectively. Formulated OPC - L paste showed a high water demand, a delayed initial setting time and an accelerated final setting time than the plain OPC paste.展开更多

In this work, a cylindrical tube which is made up of functionally graded(FG) PmP V/CNT nanocomposite, is optimally designed for the purpose of torque transmission. The main confining parameters of a rotating shaft in torque transmission process are mass of the shaft, critical speed of rotation and critical buckling torque. It is required to solve a multi-objective optimization problem(MOP) to consider these three targets simultaneously in the process of design. The three-objective optimization problem for this case is defined and solved using a hybrid method of FEM and modified non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm(NSGA-II), by coupling two softwares, MATLAB and ABAQUS. Optimization process provides a set of non-dominated optimal design vectors. Then, two methods, nearest to ideal point(NIP) and technique for ordering preferences by similarity to ideal solution(TOPSIS), are employed to choose trade-off optimum design vectors. Optimum parameters that are obtained from this work are compared with the results of previous studies for similar cylindrical tubes made from composite or a hybrid of aluminum and composite that more than 20% improvement is observed in all of the objective functions.展开更多

We report a flexible and transparent paper-based triboelectric nanogenerator (PTENG) consisting of an indium tin oxide (ITO) film and a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film as the triboelectric surfaces, which not only acts as an energy supply but also as a self-powered active sensor. It can harvest kinetic energy when the sheets of paper come into contact, bend or slide relative to one another by a combination of vertical contact-separation mode and lateral sliding mode. In addition, we also integrate grating-structured PTENGs into a book as a self-powered anti-theft sensor. The mechanical agitation during handling the book pages can be effectively converted into an electrical output to either drive a commercial electronic device or trigger a warning buzzer. Furthermore, different grating-structures on each page produce different numbers of output peaks by sliding relative to one another, which can accurately act as a page mark and record the number of pages turned. This work is a significant step forward in self-powered paper-based devices.展开更多

However, based on compressed sensing(CS) technique, it is feasible to image targets with merely one pulse and thus avoid the above tradeoff. To investigate the possible waveforms for CS-based underwater imaging, the deterministic M sequences widely used in sonar applications are introduced in this paper. By analyzing the compressive matrix constructed from M sequences, the coherence parameter and the restricted isometry property(RIP) of the matrix are derived. Also, the feasibility and advances of M sequence are demonstrated by being compared with the existing Alltop sequence in underwater CS imaging framework. Finally, the results of numerical simulations and a real experiment are provided to reveal the effectiveness of the proposed signal.展开更多
