As-burnt powder was investigated with different characterization techniques to explore the properties of Mn doped ZnO dilute magnetic semiconductor. X- ray diffraction measurements indicate that Mn doped ZnO retain wurtzite type hexagonal crystal structure like ZnO. Compositional and morphological studies were carried out by energy dispersive X-ray analysis and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. Temperature dependent resistivity of the sample exhibited the semiconducting behavior of the DMS material. Room temperature magnetic properties determined by vibrating sample magnetometer, revealed the presence of ferromagnetic and diamagnetic contributions in Mn doped ZnO. 展开更多

The resulting powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that nickel copper ferrites and nickel copper zinc ferrites were also in the nanosaele. The NiCu ferrite powders showed extensive XRD fine broadening and sizes of crystals were calculated (from the XRD line broadening) as 26 run-44 run over the temperature range is 200-800℃. The NiCuZn ferrite powders showed XRD line broadening and sizes of of crystals were calculated 46-65 nm over 200-800℃. 展开更多

Surfactant-assisted synthesis and magnetic properties of monodispersed manganese ferrite nanocrystals

Monodispersed manganese ferrite (MnFe2O4) nanocrystals could be successfully synthesized in large quantities via a facile synthetic technique based on the pyrolysis of organometallic compound precursor, in which octadecene was used as solvent, and oleic acid and oleylamine were used as capping ligands. MnFe204 nanocrystals were obtained with size in a tunable range of 4- 15 nm and their morphologies could be tuned from spherical to triangle-shaped by varying the surfactants. The phase structure, morphology, and size of the products were characterized in detail by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Magnetic properties of MnFe2O4 nanocrystals with different morphologies were measured using a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). Both monodisperse MnFe204 nanocrystals with spherical and triangle-shapes are superparamagnetic at room temperature while ferromagnetic at 2 K. The pyrolysis method may provide an effective route to synthesize other spinel ferrites or metal oxides nanocrystals. 展开更多

Both the phases and na... Monodispersed magnetite Fe3O4 and hematite α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals have been grown in co-solvents of alcohol and water. Either the shape or the size of the nanocrystals could be easily controlled. Both the phases and nanostructures have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction patterns and electron microscopy. The magnetic and catalytic properties of these products were investigated and compared with each other. The obtained results clearly demonstrate that these iron oxide nanocrystals are soft ferromagnetic at room temperature and α-Fe2O3 has a more effective catalytic property on the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate than Fe3O4. Based on the experimental data, it is proposed that the magnetic and catalytic properties of these nanocrystals are dependent not only on the size and shape, but also on the surface structure of the nanocrystals. The nanoplates with significant anisotropic nanostructure demonstrate a highly enhanced performance as compared to nanoparticles. 展开更多

Water-soluble magnetite nanocrystals have been prepared by one-step non-alkoxide sol-gel method.The magnetic properties of magnetite nanocrystals obtained are size dependent.The experimental results also reveal that 2-pyrrolidone not only serves as solvent,but also involves surface coordination which renders the magnetite nanoparticles water-soluble and colloidal solution stable.Although the current synthetic approach is a small modification to the non-alkoxide sol-gel method,it allows us to directly obtain high-quality water-soluble magnetic nanocrystals.In addition,we realize that this method could be easily extended to preparation of many other transition and main group metal oxide water-soluble nanocrystals only from simple metal ion salts. 展开更多
