This paper presents examples illus- trating applications of electrical tomography for imaging fluidized beds, bubble columns and pneumatic conveyors. Electrical tomography opens up new ways for processing, imaging and modelling multi-phase flows as shown by 2D and 3D images illus- trating the various types of flow morphology.展开更多

FloScan Imager (FSITM) has been introduced as a 3-phase oil/gas/water flow PL tool for deviated and horizontal wells. FSI sensors can map fluid velocity and holdup profiles along a vertical diameter of the wellbore at every survey depth, enabling a robust estimate of the individual phase flow rates in complex flow regimes. The cross-well EM survey is based on cross-borehole induction logging technique and provides resistivity distribution at a reservoir scale. It is a useful tool for reservoir management and is most effective in dynamic fields where fluid saturations are variable in time and space. The tool can be used to identify (water or steam) flooded and bypassed regions. By monitoring changes in the resistivity spatial distribution with time, cross-well EM survey is very effective at mapping inter-well temperature and structure. Some field examples are shown for both FloScan Imager PL tool and cross-well resistivity imaging survey.展开更多

Process engineers would like to be similarly able to image chemical process units in 3-D, but without the Lmulti-million price tag. UMIST and Leeds University have together, through the Virtual Centre for Industrial Process Tomography (http://www.vcipt.org), pioneered several electrical process tomography techniques and used them in a variety of applications. Illustrations are presented to show how electrical resistance tomography (ERT) has been developed for typical stirred vessels widely encountered in batch process manufacturing. The technique is potentially fast and inexpensive and capable of imaging both dynamic and pseudo-stationary processes. Examples from UMIST's two-tonne vessel will be presented for miscible tracer mixing, as well as gas-liquid and solid-liquid mixing.展开更多

Drillholes in the mined area were divided into two populations, i.e., drillholes containing faults and drillholes without faults. Discriminant functions were established from the values of the five variables using Fisher's approach. Drillholes in the non-mined areas were allocated to one of the two populations by using discriminant functions. The terrenes of each drillhole were divided into 10 sections, above and below a minable coal seam. Each section has 10 layers of rocks. The population to which each drillhole in a section belongs is sorted out and the probability of each drillhole with faults obtained,i.e., a contour map of predicting the probability of faults in coal mining is shown. A comparison with the real distribution of faults shows that the precision of accurately predicting faults is greater than 70 per cent.展开更多

Stabled quantitative image reconstruction is necessary for many applications. To get stable ECT image, the authors constructed a compressive operator and developed a new iterative algorithm, which can overcome the semi-convergence occurring in the Landweber iteration reconstruction technique. Experimental results showed that the stability and quality of re- constructed images are improved significantly.展开更多

Conventional classifying techniques are used to deal with those datasets with characters and numbers. It is difficult, however, to apply them to datasets that include brain images and medical history (alphanumeric data), especially to guarantee the accuracy. For these datasets, this paper combines the knowledge of medical field and improves the traditional decision tree. The new classification algorithm with the direction of the medical knowledge not only adds the interaction with the doctors, but also enhances the quality of classification. The algorithm has been used on real brain CT images and a precious rule has been gained from the experiments. This paper shows that the algorithm works well for real CT data.展开更多

This paper introduces the design and the implement of VolGraph system: a new, inexpensive, PC-based visualization tool for three-dimensional medical reconstructions, which fully integrates the latest popular visualization algorithms ranging from classical surface rendering algorithm to volume rendering algorithms, such as Ray Casting, Splatting, and Shear-Warp.The input of VolGraph can be medical ima- ges including CT, MRI, etc, and the output can be in common image, VRML/XML or animation formats. Practice proves that the realization of a medical volume visualization system is now feasible on desktop PCs.展开更多

In one test, the images were obtained through X-ray microtomography and for another test via digital scanner. In both of the tests, the images were processed using techniques of mathematical morphology and pixel processing. For both NDT, it was used concrete samples with 20-30 MPa of compressive strength. The results for the porosity were compared with results obtained by the standard test proposed by NBR (Norma Brasileira) 9778 (2005) showing the compatibility between two studied methods and pattern method.展开更多

The fluidization conditions varied from bubbling fluidized bed to circulating fluidized bed. In the whole range of fluidization conditions, ECT was able to instantaneously provide the solids concentration and voids distributions in the fluidized beds. According to the acquired data from ECT and reconstructed image, different fluidization regimes can also be identified.展开更多
