Development of nonlinear cross-anisotropic model for sands based on state parameter

Numerous experimental studies reveal that the mechanical and deformational behaviors of sands are dependent on the combined effect of void ratio and stress. To predict this complex behavior of sands, a hypo-elastic model is developed based on the cross-anisotropic elasticity model, which involves four parameters: bulk module, tangent Young's module, volume deformation coefficient and Poisson ratio. A parameter defined as virtual peak deviatoric stress dependent on state parameter is introduced into hyperbolic stress strain relationship to determine tangent Young's module. In addition, an existing fitting equation for isotropic compression curves and an existing dilatancy equation, which can consider the effect of state of sands, are employed to determine bulk module and volume deformation coefficient. Thirteen model constants are involved in the proposed model, the values of which are fixed for a sand over a wide range of initial void ratios and initial confining pressures. Well known experimental data for drained and undrained triaxial compression tests of Toyoura sand are successfully modeled. 展开更多

Considering the viscoelastic memory effect, we study the correlated motion of two hydrodynamically coupled colloidal particles, each of which confined in a harmonic potential well, in a Kelvin-type and Maxwell-type viscoelastic medium. We find that viscoelastic relaxation plays a significant role in modifying the correlation, particularly the cross correlation. We also find that both the real and imaginary parts of the response function are significantly different from the viscous medium case. In particular there is a phase shift between the vanishing imaginary part and the maximal real part of the response function in a viscoelastic medium. In addition imaginary part of the cross correlation response function exhibits a net energy loss (gain) behavior when the elasticity parameter of the medium is larger (smaller) than the critical value for Kelvin (Maxwell) viscoelastic fluid. Some implication of our results and their connection with previous works are discussed. 展开更多

Existing seismic prediction methods struggle to effectively discriminate between fluids in tight gas reservoirs,such as those in the Sulige gas field in the Ordos Basin,where porosity and permeability are extremely low and the relationship between gas and water is complicated.In this paper,we have proposed a comprehensive seismic fluid identification method that combines ray-path elastic impedance(REI)inversion with fluid substitution for tight reservoirs.This approach is grounded in geophysical theory,forward modeling,and real data applications.We used geophysics experiments in tight gas reservoirs to determine that Brie's model is better suited to calculate the elastic parameters of mixed fluids than the conventional Wood’s model.This yielded a more reasonable and accurate fluid substitution model for tight gas reservoirs.We developed a forward model and carried out inversion of REI.which reduced the non-uniqueness problem that has plagued elastic impedance inversion in the angle domain.Our well logging forward model in the ray-path domain with different fluid saturations based on a fluid substitution model proved that REI identifies fluids more accurately when the ray parameters are large.The distribution of gas saturation can be distinguished from the crossplot of REI(p=0.10)and porosity.The inverted ray-path elastic impedance profile was further used to predict the porosity and gas saturation profile.Our new method achieved good results in the application of 2D seismic data in the western Sulige gas field. 展开更多

Simulating semi-solid metal forming requires modelling semi-solid behaviour.However, such modelling is difficult because semi-solid behavior is thixotropic and depends on the liquid-solid spatial distribution within the material.In order to better understand and model relationships between microstructure and behavior, a model based on micromechanical approaches and homogenisation techniques is presented.This model is an extension of a previous model established in a pure viscoplastic framework to account for elasticity.Indeed, experimental load-displacement signals reveal the presence of an elastic-type response in the earlier stages of deformation when semi-solids are loaded under rapid compression.This elastic feature of the behaviour is attributed to the response of the porous solid skeleton saturated by incompressible liquid.A good quantitative agreement is found between the elastic-viscoplastic predicted response and the experimental data.More precisely, the strong initial rising part of the load-displacement curve, the peak load and the subsequent fall in load are well captured.The effect of solid fraction on mechanical response is in qualitative agreement with experiments. 展开更多

Gamma-ray radiation has always been a convenient and effective way to modify the inter- facial properties in polymer blends. In this work, a small amount of trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA) was incorporated into poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/random terpolymer elastomer (ST2000) blends by melt-blending. The existence of TMPTA would induce the crosslinking of PET and ST2000 molecular chains at high temperatures of blend- ing, resulting in the improvement in the impact strength but the loss in the tensile strength. When the PET/ST2000 blends were irradiated by gamma-ray radiation, the integrated me- chanical properties could be enhanced significantly at a high absorbed dose. The irradiated sample at a dose of 100 kGy even couldn't be broken under the impact test load, and at the same time, has nearly no loss of tensile strength. Based on the analysis of the impact- fractured surface morphologies of the blends, it can be concluded that gamma-ray radiation at high absorbed dose can further in situ enhance the interfacial adhesion by promoting the crosslinking reactions of TMPTA and polymer chains. As a result, the toughness and strength of PET/ST2000 blend could be dramatically improved. This work provides a facial and practical way to the fabrication of polymer blends with high toughness and strength. 展开更多

Under the geometric assumption on the middle surface of the shell that the space of inextensional displacements is non-trivial, the authors obtain, as e - 0, the eigenvalue problem for the two-dimensional "flexural shell" model if the dimension of the space is infinite. If the space is finite dimensional, the limits of the eigenvalues could belong to the spectra of both flexural and membrane shells. The method consists of rescaling the variables and studying the problem over a fixed domain. The principal difficulty lies in obtaining suitable a priori estimates for the scaled eigenvalues. 展开更多

The smart magneto-rheological visco-elastomer (MRVE) has a promising application to vibration control.Its dynamic characteristics are described by complex moduli which are applicable to linear dynamics.However,experimental results show remarkable nonlinear relations between force and deformation for certain large deformations,and the nonlinear dynamic modeling needs to be developed.The present study focuses on the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of MRVE.The MRVE was fabricated and specimens were tested to show nonlinear mechanical properties and dynamic behaviors.The nonlinear effect induced by applied magnetic fields was investigated.A phenomenological model for the dynamic behaviors of MRVE was proposed to describe the nonlinear elasticity,linear damping and hysteretic effect,and the corresponding equivalent linear model in the frequency domain was also given for small deformations.The proposed model is applicable to the dynamics and control analysis of composite structures with MRVE. 展开更多
