We present a systematic study to reveal the effect of host galaxy contamination to the identification of X-ray "unobscured" Seyfert 2 galaxies.We compiled a sample of 14 X-ray "unobscured" Seyfert ...We present a systematic study to reveal the effect of host galaxy contamination to the identification of X-ray "unobscured" Seyfert 2 galaxies.We compiled a sample of 14 X-ray "unobscured" Seyfert 2 galaxies and 29 X-ray obscured Seyfert 2s,with infrared [Ne II] and [O IV] emission line flux measurements.In this work we classify Seyfert 2s as "unobscured" or obscured in X-ray simply based on X-ray spectral fitting.We find that our X-ay "unobscured" Seyfert 2s have statistically higher [Ne II]/[O IV] line ratios,compared with obscured ones.Since the [Ne II]/[O IV] line ratio reflects the relative strength of star formation activity comparing with the SMBH accretion,the observed differences in [Ne II]/[O IV] line ratios clearly indicate relatively stronger X-ray contamination from star formation in the host galaxies in X-ray "unobscured" Seyfert 2s.Therefore we could attribute the X-ray "unobscured" appearance to host galaxy contamination for most(if not all) of our X-ray "unobscured" Seyfert 2s.Further analysis indicates that "unobscured" Seyfert 2s have intrinsically lower AGN luminosity but similar star formation rates,compared with obscured ones.This is also consistent with previous studies showing most X-ray "unobscured" Seyfert 2s are at lower luminosities,and relatively stronger contaminations from the host galaxies are thus expected.Finally we develop a screening criterion to distinguish potential pure Seyfert 2s from X-ray "unobscured" appearances which could be caused by strong host galaxy contamination.展开更多

Furthermore, we examine the differences between the line widths of Hβ and Mg II in detail by comparing their line profiles. The flux around the line core and that in the wing of both Hβ and Mg II show an opposite variation tendency, which indicates the BLR is multi-componential. The contribution of the wing makes the FWHM deviate from δline, and thus bias the MBH estimated from previous single-epoch mass estimators. Thus the correction on the formalism suggested by Wang et al. is crucial to MBn estimation.展开更多
In the present work,the optical properties of a GaAs quantum wire with equilateral triangle cross section are studied.For this purpose,we use analytical expressions for optical properties obtained by the compact-densi...In the present work,the optical properties of a GaAs quantum wire with equilateral triangle cross section are studied.For this purpose,we use analytical expressions for optical properties obtained by the compact-density matrix formalism.Here,we investigate the intersubband optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes as a function of the triangle side(L) and the incident optical intensity(I).According to the obtained results,it is found that:(i) The total refractive index changes increase and shift towards lower energies when the triangle side increases.(ii) The total absorption coefficient decreases as the triangle side increases.Also,the resonance peak shifts towards lower energies by increasing the triangle side.展开更多
In this work,the influence of strain on threshold energy of absorption in Silicon circular nanowires is investigated.For this purpose,we first have used the density functional theory(DFT) to calculate the electron and...In this work,the influence of strain on threshold energy of absorption in Silicon circular nanowires is investigated.For this purpose,we first have used the density functional theory(DFT) to calculate the electron and hole effective masses.Then,we have obtained absorption threshold energy with two different procedures,DFT and effective mass approximation(EMA).We have also obtained the band structures of Si nanowires both DFT and EMA.The results show that:i) the expansive strain increases the hole effective mass while compressive strain increases the electron effective mass,ii) the electron and hole effective masses reduce with decreasing the wire size,iii) the absorption threshold energy decreases by increasing strain for compressive and tensile strain and its behavior as a function of strain is approximately parabolic,iv) the absorption threshold energy(for all sizes) obtained using EMA is greater than the DFT results.展开更多
