Planning training programs for strength-power track and field athletes require an understanding of both training principles and training theory. The training principles are overload, variation, and specificity. Each of these principles must be incorporated into an appropriate system of training. Conceptually, periodization embraces training principles and offers advantages in planning, allowing for logical integration and manipulation of training variables such as exercise selection, intensification, and volume factors. The adaptation and progress of the athlete is to a large extent directly related to the ability of the coach/athlete to create and carry an efficient and efficacious training process. This ability includes: an understanding of how exercises affect physiological and performance adaptation (i.e., maximum force, rate of force development, power, etc.), how to optimize transfer of training effect ensuring that training exercises have maximum potential for carryover to performance, and how to implement programs with variations at appropriate levels (macro, meso, and micro) such that fatigue management is enhanced and performance progress is optimized. 展开更多

Machine Learning(ML) techniques have been widely applied in recent traffic classification.However, the problems of both discriminator bias and class imbalance decrease the accuracies of ML based traffic classifier. In this paper, we propose an accurate and extensible traffic classifier. Specifically, to address the discriminator bias issue, our classifier is built by making an optimal cascade of binary sub-classifiers, where each binary sub-classifier is trained independently with the discriminators used for identifying application specific traffic. Moreover, to balance a training dataset,we apply SMOTE algorithm in generating artificial training samples for minority classes.We evaluate our classifier on two datasets collected from different network border routers.Compared with the previous multi-class traffic classifiers built in one-time training process,our classifier achieves much higher F-Measure and AUC for each application. 展开更多

Recovering functional ability after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) requires recovery of strength and voluntary activation. Short-term recovery of strength and activation are enhanced following a protocol combining strength training with neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES). The purpose of the study was to determine if a dose response curve could be constructed for patients who received NMES as part of their treatment after TKA. NMES dosage was quantified as the electrically evoked knee extensor torque, expressed as a percentage of the subject's maximal voluntary contraction. Dose-response curves were generated, with the associations between NMES training intensity and quadriceps strength, voluntary activation, and lean muscle cross-sectional area examined using Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficients. Significantly, linear correlations were observed between NMES training intensity and both quadriceps strength and voluntary activation, but not lean muscle cross-sectional area. These results suggest that maximizing the elicited training force during rehabilitation will enhance short-term recovery following TKA. 展开更多

In the field of underwater survey, there is a variety of methods which differ from each other in terms of the operating environment and the purpose that each method is used. Hence, some of the state-of-the-art methods, that have many applications in the various scientific fields nowadays, are introduced in this paper. Additionally, the application of the procedures for an underwater survey in shallow depths is analyzed in accordance with the training standards of the PADI Underwater Survey Diver distinctive specialty. The main goal is to demonstrate not only the theoretical background of underwater surveys but also their operational issues, in order to facilitate the development of knowledge and skills during a training course. Finally, a case study for the recording and 3D modeling of the seabeds' morphology in shallow water is presented as it has been organized and accomplished by the participants of such a training course. By this way, it is expected that the reader will understand explicitly the application of the procedures prior, during and after the dive for an underwater survey in shallow depths. 展开更多

This paper describes how an oral interpretation class makes use of the Internet, suggests a rationale for the various procedures used, and presents case studies which explore the benefits of Internet aided interpretation practice for both students and teachers in pre-class preparation, in-class activity, and follow-up reinforcement. To understand communication, the interests of the sender and the receiver/s of signals should be considered sepa-rately. When our goal is to understand the adaptive significance of specific responses to specific signals by the receiver, questions about signal information are useful. However, when our goal is to understand the adaptive significance to the sender of generating a signal, it may be better to envisage the receiver's response to signals as part of the sender's extended phenotype. By making signals, a sender interfaces with the receiver's model of the world and indirectly manipulates its behaviour. This is especially clear in cases of mimicry, where animals use deceptive signals that indirectly manipulate the behaviour of receivers. Many animals adopt Batesian mimicry to deceive their predators, or aggressive mimicry to deceive their prey. We review examples from the lite-rature on spiders to illustrate how these phenomena, traditionally thought of as distinct, can become entangled in a web of lies . 展开更多
