A compound neural network is constructed to identify the nonlinear system, which includes a linear part to approximate the nonlinear system and a recurrent neural network to minimize the difference between the linear model and the real nonlinear system. Because the current control input is not included in the input vector of recurrent neural network (RNN), the inverse control law can be calculated directly. This scheme can be used in real-time nonlinear single-input single-output (SISO) and multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system control with less computation work. Simulation studies have shown that this scheme is simple and affects good control accuracy and robustness.展开更多

We have carried out a pilot study about environmental impacts during the manufacturing process of PV (photovoltaic) modules and compared between the energy requirement for the production of PV cells and modules and generation throughout the life time of the finished good that is PV module. It was taken into account the generation of environmental aspects and impacts in the manufacture of monocrystalline silicon PV modules (consisting of three components: silicon cell, fiat tempered glass and aluminum frame), and an analysis of a grid-connected PV system using an energetic alternative in residences was considered. Results show that, this kind of renewable energy is really clean and can be considered as a way to change the energy technology.展开更多

A locally optimal selection criterion is proposed at first. Then, the incremental selection approach is applied, which selects one among the residual available users to maximize the minimum user SINR step by step. Simulation results show that the fast algorithm gains over 90% of the diversity benefit achieved by the exhaustive search selection, and that the fast algorithm has much lower computational burden than the exhaustive search one, for the scenario where the number of all the available users is much greater than that of the selected users.展开更多

The result of the "shale revolution" was billions of dollars in losses for oil exporters. The question is how this situation w'ill be long-lasting or "shale bubble" will burst. The success of the shale revolution can be not only an economic win or economic defeat of the United States, the question is about reputation as a global political leader and the country's ability to solve the most difficult technological problems. Everything at stake to extend the "shale gas revolution" as it is possible longer, in time to prepare the conditions and technologies for a new energy revolution and to maintain the usual high level of energy consumption. The situation is further complicated by the introduction in the game of OPEC (organization of petroleum exporting countries) causing oil prices dropped below the cost of shale oil. The future of high technology in the production of oil depends on whether exporters and importers to negotiate the best price for oil, to ensure the sustainable development of the world economy.展开更多

It is a challenge to extract latent features and construct soft sensor model with high dimensional frequency spectra of these signals. This paper aims to develop a selective ensemble modeling approach based on nonlinear latent frequency spectral feature extraction for accurate measurement of material to ball volume ratio. Latent features are first extracted from different vibrations and acoustic spectral segments by kernel partial least squares. Algorithms of bootstrap and least squares support vector machines are employed to produce candidate sub-models using these latent features as inputs. Ensemble sub-models are selected based on genetic algorithm optimization toolbox. Partial least squares regression is used to combine these sub-models to eliminate collinearity among their prediction outputs. Results indicate that the proposed modeling approach has better prediction performance than previous ones.展开更多

A batch processing least-squares estimation method is applied to segment-wise time-series data. To construct an input-output system,an auto-regressive model with exogenous input (ARX) of second-order including a forgetting coefficient as a weighting coefficient is used for the estimation of modal parameters. The fundamental and second natural frequencies and the damping ratios of the fundamental and second natural modes of the base-isolated building are identified in the time domain. The identified results are consistent with the results obtained from the micro-tremor vibration data,forced-vibration test data and earthquake records in the present base-isolated building in the case of taking into account the amplitude-dependency of the isolators and viscous dampers. It is finally pointed out that several factors,e.g.,amplitude dependency of the isolator and damper system and special characteristics of the series-type viscous damper system, may be related complicatedly with the temporal variation in modal properties of the above-mentioned system.展开更多
