The blood cells were labelled with sodium pertechnetate and fixed in 1 0%formalin; they were 22 × 15 μm in size and had a specific gravity close to that of dog red blood cells. These cells had no discernible effect on systemic hemodynamics after injection, did not agglutinate, were well mixed and evenly distributed throughout the body, and were completely extracted in one circulation through the mandible. The mandibular ramus was divided into six regions. and the blood flow rates in each were found to be similar to those reported in previous studies with radiolabelled carbonized, microspheres. Furthermore, the blood flow distribution pattern of the mandibular ramus determined in this study was identical to that of our previous study using the bone-seeking radionuclide method. We suggest that radiolabelled toad red blood cells are an ideal marker for measuring regional blood flow in the canine mandible.展开更多

Treating bacteria with antibody against O-antigens resulted in significantly reduced bacterial adhesion. In the early growth stage, the adhering bacteria numbers increased with incubation time, peaked at 24 h, and then dropped sharply. Prior heat treatment of the mucus at various temperatures resulted in different effects on bacterial adhesion. No remarkable effect on bacterial adhesion was detected after treating mucus with protease K and trypsin, whereas periodic acid treatment significantly enhanced bacterial adhesion. Extracts of K fluvialis surface structures at high concentrations significantly inhibited bacterial adhesion, while relatively low concentrations enhanced adhesion. V. fluvialis had strong affinity for a high molecular weight mucus component. These results indicate that V.fluvialis adhered strongly to E. awoara mucus by specific adhesion and that this adhesion was influenced by many factors, including bacterial conditions, mucus, and the environment.展开更多

[Method] The stem apex growing points of Pteroceltis tatarinowii Maxim. were treated with different concentrations of colchicine solution for different hours to figure out a proper method and obtain poly- ploids. [Result] The most effective induction was obtained by treatment with 0.6%- 0.8% colchicine for 72 h with 34.2% mutation rate. Flow cytometry and chromosome observation of the stem apex growing point of P. tatarinowii Maxim. proved that the tetraploid plants were successfully obtained with chromosome number 2n=4x=36. [Conclusion] The result not only fills the blank of polyploid breeding of P. tatarinowii, but also provides an effective way to broaden the methods of cultivation of fast- growing, high-quality, disease-resilience, new varieties of Pteroceltis.展开更多

Methods: Thirty-two cases of simple obesity patients were enrolled into this study. Acupoints of the Stomach Meridian and Spleen Meridian as Zhongwan (中脘 CV 12), Liangmen (梁门 ST 21), Tianshu (天枢 ST 25), Guayuan (关元 CV 4), etc. were punctured, once daily in the first 5 days, and once every other day afterwards, with 10 sessions being a therapeutic course. Before treatment and after 3 courses of treatment, the body weight, waistline, weight index, seam cholesterol (CH), triglyceride and aggregation index of red blood cell (RBC) were detected. Results: After acupuncture treatment, all the indexes of body weight, waistline, weight index, serum CH, triglyceride and aggregation index of RBC decreased significantly in comparison with those of pre-treatment(P< 0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture can apparently improve cellular hemorheology, reduce body weight, serum cholesterol and TG levels in simple obesity patients.展开更多

Methods: Forty-four esophageal carcinoma patients, classified as ASA physical status I-II, were divided into two groups. Twenty-two patients aged than 65 years were grouped as elder patient group, and the rest twenty-two patients, served as adult patient group, were younger than 60 years old. The jugular venous blood samples were collected before induction of anesthesia (T1) as baseline, after completion of surgery (T2), on the first, second and fifth postoperative days (T3, T4 and T5), respectively. The blood counts of CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+T-lymphocyte were measured by flow cytometer. Results: Compared with the baseline level, the blood CD3+, CD4+ and CD4/CD8 levels were significantly decreased immediately after surgery, on the first and second postoperative days in the two groups (P<0.01), which returned to baseline values on the fifth postoperative day (P>0.05). On the fifth postoperative day, CD3+, CD4+ and CD4/CD8 levels in adult group were significantly higher than those in elder group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The postoperative immune function in elder patients recovered more slowly than that in adult.展开更多

METHODS: Patients with primary dysmenorrhea were enrolled and randomly assigned to a treatment or control group. Subjects' symptoms were differentiated into variousTraditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) syndromes and treated for 10 sessions with puncturing acupuncture or self-pressing right-hand Hegu(LI 4), adding other acupoints based on syndrome. Laser speckle was used to compare the change in the vasomotor amplitude and perfusion of the capillaries in Hegu(LI 4) before and during the treatment. Each subject was required to finish the period pain symptoms observation form, verbal rating scales, numerical rating scale, pain rating index, face rating scale, Zung self-rating depression scale, Zung self-rating anxiety scale, and numerical rating scale before and after treatments. RESULTS: After 10 sessions, the symptom scores, pain index(PI), and visual analog scale(VAS) decreased significantly in treatment group. The volume of blood flow in Hegu(LI 4) declined slightly. No significant evidence supported that needling caused capillary contraction, but the capillary vasomotor amplitude at Hegu(LI 4) increased remarkably. CONCLUSION: Acupuncture can increase the capillary blood flow, thus promoting the flow of Qi and blood in terms of TCM theory, which facilitates pain relief.展开更多
Objective:To explore the mechanism of acupoint injection of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BM-MSCs) in improving blood flow in the rat with hind limb ischemia.Methods:Twenty-four SD rats were randomly divided into...Objective:To explore the mechanism of acupoint injection of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BM-MSCs) in improving blood flow in the rat with hind limb ischemia.Methods:Twenty-four SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups:normal control group(n=6),model group(n=6),BM-MSCs acupoint injection group(AI group,n=6) and BM-MSC intramuscular injection group(MI group,n=6).Sanyinjiao(SP 6),Housanli(ST 36),Zhaohai(KI 6),Huantiao(GB 30) and Yanglingquan(GB 34) were selected for the AI group,and five non-acupoints were selected on gastrocnemius and adductor of ischemic hind limbs in the MI group.BM-MSCs were injected to the latter two groups.The rat hind limb ischemia model was established with the method of blocking the femoral artery and its branches.Three weeks after injection of BM-MSCs,in each group,hindlimb adductor and gastrocnemius were taken from the ischemic side.Expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and transfer growth factor-β1(TGF-β1) in the skeletal muscle were determined with immunohistochemical method,and the small arteries in the skeletal muscle were labeled with α-SMA immunohistochemical staining method,the density of small arteries(number of arterioles /number of muscle fibers) and the number of the blood vessel with VEGF positive expression were calculated.The serum levels of VEGF and nitric oxide(NO) were detected.Results:Compared with the model group,the expression of VEGF and TGF-β1,and the density of small arteries and the number of VEGF-positive blood vessels in the AI group and the MI group significantly increased(both P<0.01).Compared with the MI group,the density of small arteries and the number of VEGF-positive blood vessels in the AI group significantly increased(both P<0.01);Compared with the model group and the normal control group,the serum expression quantity of NO and VEGF in the AI group and the MI group were significantly increased(P<0.01).Conclusions:Acuppoint injection of BM-MSCs secrets more VEGF,TGF-β1 and NO to increase angiogenesis and arteriogenesis,so as to improve blood flow of the rats of hind limb ischemic.展开更多

As perovskite quantum dots(PeQDs)are performing their outstanding characteristics,incremental efforts have been devoted to such materials.Here,inspired by the spider spinning process,we present novel PeQDs microfibers...As perovskite quantum dots(PeQDs)are performing their outstanding characteristics,incremental efforts have been devoted to such materials.Here,inspired by the spider spinning process,we present novel PeQDs microfibers with tailorable morphologies and functions from a multi-injection microfluidic approach.The microfibers were generated by introducing PeQDs precursors into each barrel of the inner capillary array and mixing them in the spindle middle channel,where the poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF)dissolved in N,N-dimethyl formamide(DMF)was also injected as their sheath fluid.During this process,the PeQDs were in situ synthesized with the connection of precursor cations and anions in the core fluid;while the PVDF formed solidified microfibers to encapsulate PeQDs with the fast dispersion of DMF into the outer aqueous solution.Thus,the good encapsulation of PeQDs was achieved in PVDF microfibers,which effectively protected them from different hostile environments.Because of the highly tunable spinning processes,the microfibers exhibited controllable diameters and helical geometric structures,and the encapsulated PeQDs could yield adjustable emission peaks.Based on the PeQDs microfibers,we have explored their potential as luminescent materials in barcodes and as flexible photodetectors,which make such microfibers highly versatile for different areas.展开更多

Therefore, it is very i...Floating zone technique is a crucible-free process for growth of high quality single crystals. Unstable thermocapillary convection is a typical phenomenon during the process under microgravity. Therefore, it is very important to investigate the instability of thermocapillary convection in liquid bridges with deformable free-surface under microgravity. In this works, the Volume of Fluid(VOF) method is employed to track the free-surface movement. The results are presented as the behavior of flow structure and temperature distribution of the molten zone. The impact of Marangoni number(Ma) is also investigated on free-surface deformation as well as the instability of thermocapillary convection. The free-surface exhibits a noticeable axisymmetric(but it is non-centrosymmetric) and elliptical shape along the circumferential direction. This specific surface shape presents a typical narrow ‘neck-shaped' structure with convex at two ends of the zone and concave at the mid-plane along the axial direction. At both θ = 0° and θ = 90°, the deformation ratio ξ increases rapidly with Ma at first, and then increases slowly. Moreover, the hydrothermal wave number m and the instability of thermocapillary convection increase with Ma.展开更多
