The final diagnosis was obtained either by surgery (356 cases) or after a mean clinical follow-up of 11.8 mo in the remaining patients.RESULTS: There were 405 solid tumors, 189 cystic lesions and 17 mixed. Pancreatic specimens for cytological assessment were successfully obtained by EUS-FNA in 595 (97.4%) cases. There were 352 (57.6%) malignancies and 259 (42.4%) benign tumors. Among the malignancies, pancreatic adenocarcinomas accounted for 67% of the lesions. Overall, the sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, and accuracy of EUS-FNA were, respectively, 78.4%, 99.2%, 99.3%, 77.2% and 87.2%. Specifically for solid tumors, the same parameters for neoplasms larger and smaller than 3 cm were, respectively, 78.8% ys 82.4%, 100% ys 98.4%, 100% vs 99%, 54.8% vs 74.1% and 83.1% vs 87.8%. For cystic lesions, the values were, respectively, 72.2%, 99.3%, 97.5%, 91% and 92.2%.CONCLUSION: EUS-FNA can be used to sample pancreatic tumors in most patients. Even though the negative predictive value is inadequate for large solid tumors, the results are rather good for small solid tumors, especially concerning the sensitivity, negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy. Among all pancreatic lesions, EUS-FNA for cystic lesions can reveal the best negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy, both higher than 90%.展开更多

The industrial units located in Eloor discharge their treated effluents into the river Periyar and the surrounding environs. The two major industries of interest with respect to NORMs are the fertilizer plant, processing rock phosphate and the monazite processing plant, which had been in operation for the last 50 years. For sampling, Eloor region was divided into four zones and a total of 55 water samples from different locations were collected and analysed as per standard analytical procedure manual of BARC. The ^210Po concentration ranged between 0.3 to 4.7 mBq.L^-1 and ^210Pb ranged from 0.6 to 4.3 mBq.L^-1. All values are well below the limit of 0.1 Bq.Ll recommended by World Health Organization. Statistical analysis shows a good co-relation between ^210Po and ^210Pb in the water samples analyzed and the mean activity concentration is found to be relatively high in the western region of Eloor compared to other regions. The annual effective dose equivalent to man from ^210Po and ^210Pb through drinking water intake were estimated and found to be 1.13 μSv.y^-1 and 0.99 μSv.y^-1 respectively, which is well below the reference level of committed effective dose (100 μSv.y^-1) recommended by WHO.展开更多

This paper examines the impact of such perception, along with many other positive influencers such as enhancement in job features, recognition, and the personal values of those employees on the organizational involvement. The data analyzed were based on a sample of 34 employee respondents from a project based engineering and service company (identified as ABC Company in this paper) operating in the Middle East. The adopted research approach is basically a quantitative approach. The correlation and regression analysis tools have been used to explore this relationship. The results of this study suggest a generally unnoticed and disregarded resource that has the prime effect on improving and enhancing the organizational involvement, which is the recognition those employees receive from the management. This research suggests that recognition, as the top influencer, has a strong impact on organizational involvement/psychological attachment for the employees. The other factors that have proved to have the second degree influence on organizational involvement are enhancement in job features, increase in the job security level, and personal values.展开更多

The analyzed population belongs to two different geobotanical sub-districts: the Western and High Tatras. The level of genetic diversity assessed in this study for P. mugo is generally comparable to that reported for the other pine species in the Pinaceae family assessed by ISSR markers, especially with respect to Nei's genetic diversity and the percentage of polymorphic bands. Bayesian analysis clustered the analyzed populations into two groups, corresponding to their geobotanical locations in the Tatras. Significant divergence between the two genetical clusters was supported by the results of Analysis of Molecular Variance (AMOVA). According to the Mantel test, there was no correlation between the genetic distance and the geographical distance. The present study confirms the existence of two genetically distinct dusters of P. mugo populations in the Tatra Mountains. The observed high population-genetic differentiation of P.mugo in the Tatras could be attributed to several genetic, environmental and historical factors occurring in this mountain area.展开更多

A 72-year-old Japanese man was admitted to our hospital presenting with a 3-mo history of epigastric pain, vomiting and weight loss. On computed tomography (CT) a wall thickening of the fourth part of the duodenum was observed. Multiple biopsies obtained from the lesion showed infiltration of plasma cells and lymphocytes, but they were not conclusive. The patient underwent resection of the lesion and, on histopathological examination, the lesion consisted of a dense and diffuse infiltrate of plasma cells and a few admixed lymphocytes with reactive follicles extending to the muscular propria. An extensive deposition of amyloid was also observed. Immunohistochemical stains revealed that a few plasmacytoid cells showed λ light chain staining, though most were κ: light chain positive. These cells also were positive for CD138 and CD56 but negative for CD20 and CD79. The findings were consistent with extramedullary plasmocytoma associated with a massive deposit of amyloid in duodenum. A subsequent workup for multiple myeloma was completely negative. The patient showed no signs of local recurrence or dissemination of the disease after 12 mo follow-up. Because of the association of plasmocytoma and amyloidosis, the patient must be followed up because of the possible systemic involvement of the neoplasm and amyloidosis in future.展开更多

An esophago gastroduodenoscopy (EGD) confirmed multiple polypoid lesions in the duodenum and small intestine, and conventional histological testing revealed non-specific inflammatory changes. Further examinations including the immunohistochemical profiles of the biopsied specimens led us to diagnose the lesion as a marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue type, forming multiple lymphomatous polyposis sequentially spreading from duodenal bulb to terminal ileum. According to Lugano’s classification, its staging was clinically diagnosed as stage Ⅱ. Two courses of a standard CHOP (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin hydrochloride, vincristine sulfate, and predonisolone) regimen with rituximab reduced the lesion and the patient had a almost complete response. A 5-year follow- up EGD and histological examinations detected no recurrence of the disease.展开更多

Methods: The expressions of Livin and IGF-II were detected by immuno- histochemistry SABC in 60 cases of colorectal cancer and their associated colorectal tissues, and the associations between the expression levels of Livin and IGF-II and clinical pathological characteristics were analyzed. Results: The positive rates of Livin and IGF-II in colorectal carcinomas were 68.33% and 63.33% respectively, higher than those of para-carcinomatous normal tissues and colorectal adenomas. There were no significant correlations between the expressions of Livin, IGF-II in colorectal carcinomas and the patient's age, sex, tumor size and location, while distant metastasis, Dukes stage, histologi- cal type, lymph node metastasis, and whether the tumors have received radiotherapy and chemotherapy were significantly correlated with the expressions of Livin, IGF-II in colorectal carcinomas. Conclusion: Livin and IGF-II play important roles in carcinogenesis and progression of colorectal cancer. This study showed obvious correlation between the expressions of Livin and IGF-II in colorectal cancers. It could be used as the reference for further researches. Livin is hopeful to be a new molecular target in cancer therapy.展开更多

Methods: Twenty-six patients (18 males and 8 females ranging from 9 to 56 years old, with an average of 19 years) with osteosarcoma underwent 64-slice spiral CTPI. We analyzed the correlations of CTPI parameters including blood flow (BF), blood volume (BV), time to peak (TTP), and permeability surface (PS) with the expression of markers of angiogenesis. Statistical analysis was performed with paired-samples t test, and Pearson correlation analysis was employed to investigate the correlations of CTPI parameters with microvessel density (MVD). Results: Mean BF, BV, TTP, and PS values of osteosarcoma group were (46.6 ± 25.1) mL/100 g/min, (61.8 ± 29.5) mL/100 g, (122.9 ± 26.2) seconds, and (44.5 ± 14.6) mL/100 g/min, respectively. Those in the normal muscle group were (5.2 ± 6.6) mL/100 g/min, (9.6 ± 7.3) mL/100 g, (115.5 ± 33.1) seconds and (17.0 ± 29.3) mL/100 g/min, respectively. Osteosarcoma group showed higher BF, BV and PS compared with the normal muscle group (P = 0.000, P = 0.000, and P = 0.000, respectively). However, no significant difference was found in TTP between osteosarcoma tissue and normal adjacent muscle tissue (P = 0.273). BF, BV, and PS were positively correlated with MVD (r = 0.83, P = 0.000; r = 0.87, P = 0.000; and r = 0.63, P = 0.001, respectively). No correlation was found between TTP and MVD (r = –0.02, P = 0.93). Conclusion: CTPI is useful for assessing tumor vascularity of osteosarcoma and CTPI parameters are positively correlated with MVD.展开更多

No correlation was found between TTP and MVD (r = –0.02, P = 0.93). Conclusion: CTPI is useful for assessing tumor vascularity of osteosarcoma and CTPI parameters are positively correlated with MVD.
文摘This paper introduces the classification, properties and application of porous ceramic materials, reviewed preparation of porous ceramics. Taking fly ash and red mud as the main raw material to generate porous ceramics, the paper study the influence of different proportions of raw materials, sintering temperature, porosity of porous ceramic sample rate, bending strength, and microstructure. The results show that, fly ash and red mud proportioning and sintering temperature are the main factors that influence the structure and properties of samples. The4#sample is a kind of high porosity and high strength quality of porous ceramics.
