The calculation results indicate that stress distribution of holed geotextile cross-section is greatly related to the dimension of the specimen, the size of the hole, the shape of the hole and the tensile condition, and the stress concentration area of holed geotextile from the side of the hole to 3-4 times of the hole diameter should be strengthened in order to improve quality of the projects. These results could provide guidance for engineering application of geotextiles.展开更多

The tubular wall of the prosthesis is divided circumferentially into three zones; basic line (BL), remeshing line ( RL) and guide line ( GL). Some heterogeneity has been observed on the tubular wall in terms of stitch structure of the prosthesis and linear density of the constituent filaments. The breaking position of the prosthesis under circumferential tensile localizes preferentially in remeshing line that is the weakest zone by warp knitting with double needle bed. Furthermore, the statistical differences of the mechanical properties of the filaments of zone RL, GL and BL have been confirmed too. It is predictable that the deterioration of prosthesis, under physiological loads (periodical pulse blood pressure etc.), could happen firstly in the weaker zone in vivo.展开更多

A method based on exergy balances has been developed at the Institute for Textile Technology RWTH Aachen University (ITA), Aachen, Germany in order to improve energy efficiency textile machines. The relay nozzles of the air-jet weaving technology need up to 80% of the energy of the weaving machine. At ITA, a new nozzle concept was developed. The developed geometry is a so called High-Volume-Low-Pressure nozzle (HVLP nozzle), based on convergent nozzle aerodynamic theory. With this concept, energy savings up to 30% are possible.展开更多

To make a society sustainable needs to find ways of having sustainable local activities. The ways may be to find and revitalize local resources, or to support new life styles by accepting outsider's new ideas. I see those ways often taken from a perspective that the ways require a structure or institutional organization. To explore in-between ways, it would be better to have an alternative perspective and useful to learn from Southeast Asian cases of managing diversity while accepting new ways (cf. Reid, 2015). In this essay, I focus on a sustainable craft making of a men's hat kopiah meuketob in Aceh, Sumatra, which is traditional item for marriage but has been used in various imaginative ways and has been shaping a regional "craft-scape." I examine such ways and various facets of making the hat and conclude that a lesson from the case for making things sustainable is equal and flexible ways of participating in production processes.展开更多

Two types of composites, including one-layered and two-layered composites, were designed and studied. For one-layered composites, inter-strand gap effects on the mechanical properties were studied, while three cases of geometries with inter-strand gaps in two-layered composites were evaluated. A woven fiber micromechanics analytical model called MESOTEX was employed for theoretical simulation. The predicted results show that the inter-strand gap and simple variation of the strand positions in a repeating unit cell significantly affect the mechanical properties of woven fabric composites.展开更多

文摘The effects of geometry on mechanical properties in woven fabric composites were explored. Two types of composites, including one-layered and two-layered composites, were designed and studied.
