Methods Sixty cases of ocular myasthenia gravis were selected. The acupuncture was applied at Dàzhuī (大椎 GV 14), Bǎihuì (百会 GV 20), Shàngxīng (上星 GV 23) of Governor Vessel, and its crossing points with Yinqiao and Yangqiao Meridian, such as Jīngmíng (睛明 BL 1), shēnmài (申脉 BL 62), Dìcāng (地仓 ST 4), Jūliáo (巨髎 ST 3), Chéngqì (承泣 ST 1 ), etc. Besides, ginger-partition moxibustion was applied at Yángbái (阳白 GB 14) and Sìbái (四白 ST 2). The plum-blossom needle was applied at upper limb distribution of lung channel of hand taiyin, heart channel of hand shaoyin and pericardium channel of hand jueyin. The patients’ clinical symptoms, potential degradation percentages of repetitive nerve stimulation (RNS) in low frequency were observed. Results 8 cases were clinically cured, 20 cases were basically cured, 12 cases were remarkably effective, 15 cases were effective and 5 cases were failed. The total effective rate was 91.7%. Compared with before the treatment, the potential degradation percentages of repetitive nerve stimulation in low frequency were lowered [(19.44±6.28)% vs (8.78±3.12)%, (P0.05)]. Conclusion Acupuncture and moxibustion at extra-meridian and collateral for ocular myasthenia gravis could achieve positive efficacy.展开更多

Muscle region is also a part of acupuncture system and plays a guiding role in clinical application of acupuncture anesthesia. The correlation between the distribution of muscle regions and nerves acts as the substantial foundation of the guiding role. At the same time, acupuncture anesthesia has been promoting the continuous development of muscle region theory. The cyclic development relation between the two (practice-theory-practice) is consistent with the dialectical development view.展开更多

Method: The EEG-4400 electro-encephalogram (EEG) and ND-1 brain electrical activity mapping were adopted on 11 volunteers with remarkable sensation transmission along meridians, showing that the sensation can transmit to head and face after stimulating the points below the knee joints. Also, special observation was made on accurate location of somatosensory cortical evoked potential map in l0 people without sensation transmission. Result: Observation on 11 vohmteers with remarkable transmission along the Three Foot-yang Meridians showed that they presented with concurrent high potential reactions in somatosensory cortical lower limbs and face without blocking the augmented sensation transmission along the meridians; however, when mechanical pressure was exerted to block the sensation transmission, only one reaction in the lower limbs occurred in the somatosensory cortical evoked map and the other one in the face disappeared. Conclusion: Peripheral tissue evoking is the decisive factor for transmission along the meridians.展开更多

TCM holds that meridian is a complicated system with the fourteen meridians as the main part, which distributes over the whole human body. Each meridian belongs to a corresponding viscus interiorly, and winds around the limbs and joints exteriorly. It functions to transport the qi and blood, regulates the balance between Yin and Yang, responses to the changes in the natural world. It is the pathway for transporting qi and blood. Accordingly, it is considered to be the connective, regulative and responsive system of the body. In comparison to the Western medicine and modem biology, it elucidates the vital process and regulation of the function of human body in a totally different way and involves many brilliant theoretical expositions. Therefore, it has been deeply concerned by many researchers in China and abroad. Once the essence of meridian is elucidated, it must vigorously promote the development of TCM as well as the whole medical science and benefit the mankind.展开更多
