Methods Sixty-four patients were randomly divided into two groups: group AQF, and group CA with 32 cases in each group. Jiānyú (肩髃 LI 15), Jiānliáo (肩髎 TE 14), Jiānzhēn (肩贞 SI 9), Bìnào (臂臑 LI 14), Qūchí (曲池 LI 11) and Wàiguān (外关 TE 5) on the affected side were used in both groups, and the two acupuncture methods were respectively used in the two groups for consecutive 2 courses. Pain and moving functions of shoulder and ability in daily life (ADL) were used as indices for evaluating therapeutic effects. Results The total effective rate was 96.9% (31/32) and 81.3% (26/32) in group AQF and group CA, respectively, showing superiority of AQF to CA (P〈0.05). Scores reflecting pain and moving functions of shoulder and ADL were all improved after treatment in both groups (all P〈0.05), and the improvement in group AQF was more obvious than those in group CA (all P〈0.05). Conclusion In treating periarthritis of shoulder, the acupuncture accelerating qi-flow along meridians was better than conventional acupuncture in alleviating pain of the shoulder, improving its moving function and elevating abilities in daily life.展开更多

Those in the observation group practiced Yi Jin Jing(Sinew-transforming Qigong Exercises) plus tuina therapy; whereas those in the control group received only tuina therapy. Tuina therapy was conducted every other day, 20 min every time for 1 month and Yi Jin Jing(Sinew-transforming Qigong Exercises) was conducted once a day for 1 month. The therapeutic effects were assessed by visual analogue scale(VAS) and Constant-Murley scale. Results: After treatment, the VAS score and Constant-Murley scale were substantially improved, showing statistical significances(P〈0.01); the Constant-Murley scale in the observation group was better than that in the control group, showing a statistical significance(P〈0.01); the effective rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, between-group comparison showed a statistical significance(P〈0.01).Conclusion: Yi Jin Jing(Sinew-transforming Qigong Exercises) plus tuina and tuina alone have a verified effect in treating SP,and the former can achieve a better effect than the later.展开更多

Methods: Thirty six cases with medial rotation contracture of the shoulder were diagnosed by measurement of the inferior glenohumeral angle, passive lateral rotation of the shoulder and plain radiographs. Subscapularis slide was performed in 24 cases with simple medial rotation contracture, and anterior release in 12 cases with complex contracture medial rotation contracture combined with subluxation, dislocation, or other deformities of the shoulder joint. Systems of Mallet scoring and Gilbert grading for the shoulder were used to evaluate the postoperative shoulder function. Results: With follow up for a minimum of six months, 32 cases got apparent gains from operations, accounting for 88.8 % of the total operated on. The younger the child was, the better the result. Of 4 cases with no operative effects, 3 had no flexion of the elbow preoperatively, suggesting a poor recovery of the upper trunk of the brachial plexus; the rest one had no repair of the severed subscapularis tendon. Conclusions: Subscapularis slide and anterior release of the shoulder are effective for treatment of medial rotation contracture as well as its consequence of subluxation and dislocation of the shoulder in OBPP. The operative effect is related to childrens age and the recovery extent of the upper trunk of the brachial plexus.展开更多

Methods: A total of 90 patients with shoulder and arm pain were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 45 cases in each group. The treatment of Shu-acupuncture method in Nei Jing (Classic of Internal Medicine) was adopted in the observation group, routine acupuncture was used in the control group. The two groups were treated once every day, with 5 treatments as one course, and a 2-day rest between two courses. After 3 courses, pain was assessed by visual analog scale (VAS), and the clinical effects were compared between the two groups. Results: After the treatment, VAS scores were significantly changed in both groups (both P〈O.01). The VAS score was lower in the observation group than that in the control group, with a statistical difference between the two groups (P〈0.05). The total effective rate was 100% in the observation group, versus 91.1% in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P〈O.05). Conclusion: The therapeutic effect of Shu-acupuncture method in Nei Jing (Classic of Internal Medicine) is better than that of routine acupuncture in treatinR shoulder and arm pain.展开更多

Methods: by using the research approach of evidence-based medicine such as multi-center, large sample and randomization, the 163 cases of early-stage adhesive shoulder periarthritis were treated with transcutaneous electric point stimulation and electric acupuncture respectively to observe the therapeutic effect of transcutaneous electric acupoint stimulation and compare its effect with electric acupuncture. Results and Conclusion: The total effective rate of transcutaneous electric point stimulation on early-stage adhesive shoulder periarthritis reached 96.5%, showing no significant difference with the electric acupuncture group; the transcutaneous electric acupoint stimulation could not only relieve pain, but also improve the shoulder joint movement. As a result, the transcutaneous electric acupoint stimulation is an easy and more effective therapy for shoulder periarthritis.展开更多

The procedure was to perform controlled steering maneuver by right hand in a driving simulator, and based on analyzing the EMG data with steering force in the steering wheel plane, the function was identified. It was found that muscle function depends strongly on both steering rotation and steering torque directions. In clockwise steering, the long head of triceps brachii was the prime mover and an important contributor to clockwise moment, while the sternocostal portion of the pectoralis major, the lateral head of triceps brachii, biceps brachii and teres major were the important stabilizers or fixators. In contrast, in counterclockwise steering, the anterior, middle and posterior deltoid, the clavicular portion of the pectoralis major and infraspinatus were the prime movers and also the important contributors to counterclockwise moment, while the sternocostal portion of the pectoralis major, the lateral head of triceps brachii, biceps brachii and teres major were the important stabilizers or fixators. We conclude that the prime movers are primarily a consequence of steering direction, while the stabilizers or fixators are primarily constant. These results can be used to improve the neuromuscular model and estimate the steering comfort of driver.展开更多
