Methods We enrolled 7 patients who had Graves' disease (GD) with IAOLs screened and evidenced by transcranial Doppler, then further confirmed with digital substract angiography in 2 patients and magnetic resonance angiography in 5 patients. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed in all 7 patients. Three patients were followed up. Results Among 7 patients, 1 was male and 6 were females. The mean age was 32.0 ± 5.5 ( range from 11 to 49) years old. Six of them had symptoms of GD but one was asymptomatic with abnormality of I3, T4, and thyroid stimulating hormone. The lesions of intracranial arteries were symmetrical bilaterally in the intemal carotid artery system in 6 patients, as well as asymmetrical in 1 patient. Terminal internal carotid artery (TICA) were involved in all 7 patients. Middle cerebral artery (MCA) were involved in 3, anterior cerebral artery in 2, and basilar artery in 1 patient. Net-like collateral vessels and mimic moyamoya disease were observed in the vicinity of the occlusive arteries in 2 patients. All patients presented symptoms of ischemic stroke including transient ischemic attack and/or infarction while IA- OLs were found. Three patients had obvious involuntary movements. Brain MRI revealed infarctions located in the cortex, basal ganglion, or hemiovular center in 5 patients. The remaining 2 patients had normal brain MRI. The neurological symptoms were improved concomitant with relief of the thyroid function in 2 patients, while IAOLs were aggravated with deterioration of the thyroid function in 1 patient. Conclusion IAOLs in patients with GD mainly involve intracranial arteries, especially the TICA and MCA, which is similar to moyamoya disease. The neurological symptoms and severity of involved arteries may relieve while the hyperthyroidism is gradually under control.展开更多

Animals were divided into four groups: group A receiving trans-arterial gene therapy (Ad-p53) only, group B receiving combined Ad-p53 therapy and transarterial embolization (lipiodol), group C receiving transarterial chemoembolization (lipiodol + mitomycin C),control group (D) receiving sodium chloride. Tumor volume (V1) was measured by using MRI (d 13).Interventional procedure was applied (d 14).Tumor volume (V2) was assessed by MRT (d 21) and the mean ratio (V2/V1) was calculated. After the second MRI,specimens of the liver were abstained and examined immunohistochemically using mutant-type p53 antibody. The positive expression was scored.RESULTS: Compared with control group ((^-x) = 3.14± 0.64), therapeutic groups all showed a significant decrease in the tumor growth ratio (P 〈 0.05). A slight difference was found between group A ((^-x) =2.35 ±0.59) and group B ((^-x) = 1.75 ± 0.28) (P = 0.048). Nostatistically significant difference was observed between group B and group C ((^-x) = 2.00 ± 0.44). The positive expression rate of mutant-type p53 was the lowest in group B and significantly different between group A and group C (P 〈 0.05).Compared to the control subjects, groups A and C both showed a decrease in the expression of mutant-type p53, but there was no significant difference between them.CONCLUSION: Trans-arterial Ad-p53 gene therapy can reduce tumor growth of HCC in rabbit model.展开更多

This group included 120 males and 53 females. The pathologic lesions composed of localized complete occlusion of inferior vena cava (IVC) (78), IVC stenosis (49), IVC membrane with a hole (37), membrane of hepatic vein (HV) (3), IVC thrombosis (4), IVC membrane with thrombosis (2) and IVC lesion with occlusion of HV (32). Treatment methods included that I: Percutaneous transinferior vena cava angioplasty (PTA) (76); II: IVC PTA with stent (59); III: Percutaneous transhepatic vein recanalization (3); IV: IVC thrombolysis through a catheter (4); V; Combined transcardiac and trans-femoral venous membranotomy and balloon dilation (22); VI: V and stent (17); VII; Stenting during radical surgery (3); VIII: Additional operation after intervention (23).Results. The immediate technique success rate for intervention was 90.1%, for the semi-intervention was 100%. The IVC pressure was reduced from 3 to 29 cmH20. Complications occurred in 8 cases. The death rate was 2.9%. A follow-up study showed the recurrence rates were 14.5% in IVC PTA group, 1.7% in IVC PTA with stent, 18.2% in combined technique without stent and no recurrence was found in other groups.Conclusion. The PTA is the first choice for localized lesions. When elastic recoil occurs, immediate stenting is suggested. The semi-interventional approach is advised for PTA failure and more complicated cases. For those with both IVC lesion and occlusion of HV, the additional operation is needed after IVC intervention.展开更多

METHODS The anti-hepatocellular carcinoma activity of the Bax gene transferred to the human hepatocellular carcinoma QGY7703 cell line was examined. In addition the Bax gene was transferred in vivo in mice via the caudal vein or hepatic artery to investigate the differences in target organ and non-target organ transfection. RESULTS 1)The Bax gene mediated by a binary adenoviral vector system induced apoptosis in the human hepatic carcinoma QFY7703 cell line. The cell apoptotic rate in the experimental group (Bax) was 50.2±6.9% but only 32.1 ± 9.7% in the Ad/CMV-p53 group, showing that the Bax-apoptotic rate was significantly higher than the control group. 2) LacZ expression was higher in the target organ (liver) when given through the hepatic artery than through the tail vein. In contrast, LacZ expression in the nontarget organs was higher if given through the tail vein compared to the hepatic artery. CONCLUSION Superselective hepatic artery delivery with Bax gene therapy is safe, specific, effective and has low toxicity. This study provided the basis for Bax-gene therapy via the hepatic artery in vivo.展开更多

Methods: This group consisted of 76 cases of closed cervical spine trauma combined with unilateral vertebral artery injury (23 cases of bilateral facet dislocation, 28 unilateral facet dislocation and 25 fracture). All patients underwent prospective examination of cervical spine MRI and vertebral artery two-dimensional time-of-flight (2D TOF) magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), and anterior cervical decompression. The healthy vertebral artery paths were evaluated before the surgery, and were protected during the surgery according to the anatomical signs. Results: There were no acute or chronic clinical dam- age symptoms in 76 cases after surgery. No neural damage symptoms were observed in patients with normal neural functions. The neural functions of incomplete paralyzed patients were improved in different grades. Conclusions: Reliable anterior operation can produce good results for cervical fracture and dislocation with unilateral vertebral artery injury. Detecting the course of uninjured vertebral artery before operation and locating the anatomical site during operation are effective to avoid damaging vertebral artery of uninjured side.展开更多
