An experimen- tal investigation on rainfall infiltration and solute transport in such layered structures can provide the necessary foundation for effectively preventing and forecasting water bursting in mines, controlling contamination of mine water, and accomplishing ecological restoration of mining areas. A typical physical model of the layered structures with porous and fractured media was created in this study. Then rainfall infiltration experiments were conducted after salt solution was sprayed on the surface of the layered structure. The volumetric water content and concentration of chlorine ions at different specified positions along the profile of the experiment system were measured in real-time. The experimental results showed that the lower fractured media, with a considerably higher permeability than that of the upper porous media, had significant effects on preventing water infil- tration. Moreover, although the porous media were homogeneous statistically in the whole domain, spatial variations in the features of effluent concentrations with regards to time, or so called breakthrough curves, at various sampling points located at the horizontal plane in the porous media near the porous-fractured interface were observed, indicating the diversity of solute transport at small scales. Furthermore, the breakthrough curves of the outflow at the bottom, located beneath the underlying fractured rock, were able to capture and integrate features of the breakthrough curves of both the upper porous and fractured media, which exhibited multiple peaks, while the peak values were reduced one by one with time.展开更多

Alternation in the biothiol levels is associated with various pathological processes, therefore non-invasive fluorescent probes with high specificity to biothiols are highly desirable research utilities. Meanwhile, fluorescent probes with aggregationinduced emission properties(AIEgens) possess unique photophysical properties that allow modulation of the sensing process through controlling the aggregation-disaggregation or the intramolecular rotational motions of the fluorophores. Herein we review the recent progress in the development of biothiol-specific AIEgens. In particular, the molecular design principles to target different types of biothiols and the corresponding sensing mechanisms are discussed, along with the potential of the future design and development of multi-functional bioprobes.展开更多

This artificial TSC, first proposed by Fu and Kane in 2008, is a heterostructure made of a topological insulator BiETe3 and an s-wave superconductor NbSe2. This paper will briefly review the experimental progresses based on the Bi2Te3/NbSe2 heterostructure. All evidences are self-consistent and reveal that the MZM exists in the center of vortex. Those experimental results are also supported by theory. This finding is a milestone in the research ofMajorana fermions in solid state physics and a starting point of MZM's application in topological quantum computation.展开更多

The simulation results show that the performances of the equivalent 3PS DFB semiconductor laser are nearly the same as those of the true 3PS laser. Compared with the quarter-wave-phase shift (QWS) DFB semiconductor laser, the 3PS DFB semiconductor laser shows better single-longitude-mode (SLM) property even at high injection current with high temperature. However, it only changes the ~un-level sampling structures but the seed grating is uniform using the REC tech- nique. Therefore, its fabrication cost is low.展开更多

Inspired by the recent experimental high-spin data in the odd-proton nuclide 171 Tm, we perform projected shell model(PSM) calculations to investigate structure of the ground band and other bands based on isomeric states. In addi- tion to the usual quadrupole-quadrupole force in the Hamiltonian, we employ the hexadecapole-hexadecapole(HH) interac- tion, in a self-consistent way with the hexadecapole deformation of the deformed basis. It is found that the known experi- mental data can be well described by the PSM calculation. The effect of the HH force on the quasiparticle isomeric states is discussed.展开更多
