Aimed to the characters of pests forecast such as fuzziness, correlation, nonlinear and real-time as well as decline of generalization capacity of neural network in prediction with few observations, a method of pests forecasting using the method of neural network based on fuzzy clustering was proposed in this experiment. The simulation results demonstrated that the method was simple and practical and could forecast pests fast and accurately, particularly, the method could obtain good results with few samples and samples correlation. 展开更多

The tensile cable-strut structure is a self-equilibrate pre-stressed system.The initial pre-stress cal- culation is the fundamental structural analysis.A new numerical procedure was developed.The force density method is the cornerstone of analytical formula,and then introduced into linear adjustment theory;the least square least norm solution,the optimized initial pre-stress,is yielded.The initial pre-stress and structural performances of a particular single-layer saddle-shaped cable-net structure were analyzed with the developed method,which is proved to be efficient and correct.The modal analyses were performed with respect to various pre-stress levels.Finally,the structural performances were investigated comprehensively. 展开更多

The Ag(Invar)composite powder prepared by ball milling was used to fabricate the Cu/Ag(Invar)composites.Microstructures and properties of the composites were studied after sintering and thermo-mechanical treatment.The... The Ag(Invar)composite powder prepared by ball milling was used to fabricate the Cu/Ag(Invar)composites.Microstructures and properties of the composites were studied after sintering and thermo-mechanical treatment.The results indicatethat during ball milling,micro-forging weld and work-hardening fracture result in that the average particle size of the Ag(Invar)powder increases rapidly at first,and then decreases sharply,finally tends to be constant.Compared with the Cu/Invar ones,thesinterability of the composites is greatly improved,resulting in that the pores in them are smaller in amount and size.After thethermo-mechanical treatment,the Cu/Ag(Invar)composites are nearly fully dense with the optimum phase composition and elementdistribution.More importantly,Cu and the Invar alloy in the composites distribute continuously in a three-dimensional(3D)networkstructure.Cu/Invar interface diffusion is effectively inhibited by the Ag barrier layer,leading to a great improvement of themechanical and thermal properties of the Cu/Ag(Invar)composites. 展开更多

Smart Grid Concept and Developments: The Relevance to South Africa

Smart grid is a concept and not a computer system or some sort of hardware. Therefore, smart grids can have multiple shapes because there is no single unified concept of what constitutes a "Smart Grid". Smart grid is considered a core concept in sustainable electricity generation and consumption while being projected as a silver-bullet to electric power system challenges. South Africa's dwindling reserve margin, high CO_2 emissions and future energy mix are outstanding reasons for her smart grid deployment. Who receives the credit for smart grid neology is contentious and smart grid definition is diverse. However, there is a consensus on its attributes or benefits. The establishment of SASGI (South Africa Smart Grid Initiative) and Eskom's commencement of deploying a hybrid smart grid model are proofs of the country's commitment towards smart grid concept and developments. Having recognized the relevance of smart grid concept and its developments, South Africa is presented with the opportunity to "leap-frog" and enhance the relevant proven applicable smart grid solutions. 展开更多
