The plow was able to construct intermittent and continuous contour ridges, and could potentially be used to rehabilitate degraded rangelands. However, one major issue for large-scale implementation is the high cost and time required to manually identify contours for the plow to follow. Most existing auto-guiding systems, as usually used in road construction and agricultural land leveling, were expensive or impractical. The objective, therefore, was to add, adapt, and evaluate an auto-guiding system to enable a tractor to follow contours without demarcation through conventional surveying. A low-cost Contour Laser Guiding (CLG) system, with specifications that suit the contour ridging in undulating topographic conditions of dry rangelands, was chosen, adapted, mounted, and tested, under actual field conditions. The system consisted mainly of a portable laser transmitter and a tractor-mounted receiver, connected to a guidance display panel. The system was field-tested on 95 ha of land where the system capacity was determined under different terrains, slopes (1-8%), and ridge spacings (4-12 m). The easy adaptation and implementation of the CLG to the "Vallerani" unit tripled the system capacity, improved efficiency and precision, and substantially reduced the cost of constructing micro-catchments for WH. The system is recommended for large-scale rangeland rehabilitation projects in the dry areas, not only in West Asia, but worldwide.展开更多
This paper proposes an outdoor guide system using vision-based augmented reality(AR) on mobile devices.Augmented reality provides a virtual-real fusion display interface for outdoor guide.Vision-based methods are more...This paper proposes an outdoor guide system using vision-based augmented reality(AR) on mobile devices.Augmented reality provides a virtual-real fusion display interface for outdoor guide.Vision-based methods are more accurate than GPS or other hardware-based methods.However,vision-based methods require more resources and relatively strong computing power of mobile devices.A C/S framework for vision based augmented reality system is introduced in this paper.In a server,a vocabulary tree is used for location recognition.In a mobile device,BRISK feature is combined with optical flow methods to track the offline keyframe.The system is tested on UKbench datasets and in real environment.Experimental results show that the proposed vision-based augmented reality system works well and yields relatively high recognition rate and that the mobile device achieves realtime recognition performance.展开更多
In the developing embryo,nascent axons navigate towards their specific targets to establish the intricate network of axonal connections linking neurons within the mature nervous system.Molecular navigational systems c...In the developing embryo,nascent axons navigate towards their specific targets to establish the intricate network of axonal connections linking neurons within the mature nervous system.Molecular navigational systems comprising repulsive and attractive guidance cues form chemotactic gradients along the pathway of the exploring growth cone.Axon-bound receptors detect these gradients and determine the trajectory of the migrating growth cone.In contrast to their benevolent role in the developing nervous system,repulsive guidance receptors are detrimental to the axon’s ability to regenerate after injury in the adult.In this review we explore the essential and beneficial role played by the chemorepulsive Wnt receptor,Ryk/Derailed in axon navigation in the embryonic nervous system(the Yin function).Specifically,we focus on the role of Wnt5a/Rykmediated guidance in the establishment of two major axon tracts in the mammalian central nervous system,the corticospinal tract and the corpus callosum.Recent studies have also identified Ryk as a major suppressor of axonal regeneration after spinal cord injury.Thus,we also discuss this opposing aspect of Ryk function in axonal regeneration where its activity is a major impediment to axon regrowth(the Yang function).展开更多
