Discourse system is about the study of whole systems of communication. This article tries to analyze the influences of discourse system on intercultural communication from the points of ideology, socialization, forms of discourse, face systems and context. Studying intercultural communication from the point of discourse system is an innovative and effective research method, which helps to enhance the participants' cultural sensitivity and makes the communication continue.展开更多

The context also included the more than one generation of perverse military rule. In each of the historical epochs, no African leadership built the youth; there was no ideology or a value system transmitted to the youth. Accordingly it becomes increasingly difficult in the twenty-first century attempting to mobilize the African youth as meaningful change agents. The possible exception to these failures was the Ghana Young Pioneers. The manifestation of this neglect in most parts of sub-Saharan Africa is the hoard of jobless youth involved in crime and other deviant behaviors. Thus to build the youth who will develop the society, African states will necessarily have to invest in the youth, evolve an ideology and an African world view, which will be transmitted to the youth, and which will constitute a driving force for their mobilization as critical agents of change.展开更多

This would eventually lead to the final solution. However, the problem solution scenario is not so simple. Naturally, consumers' behaviors are difficult to be predicted and they do not always necessarily follow the rational-mind purchasing criteria. When purchasing food, mostly they choose the product because of its taste, quality and price, and lastly maybe due to its environmental friendliness from one hand. From the other hand, the manufacturer's priority is for the quantity sold and profit rather than product's environmental safety. Recently, is it possible to change consumers' mind-set and make them behave and select products in environmentally friendly manner? The author thinks it's possible and the key is the kind of trigger through heart-moving incentive. This paper focuses on the Acorn Point System Project, which incorporates carbon foot print and carbon offset scheme, and argues about methods that can be used effectively and efficiently to facilitate those environmentally unmotivated companies and consumers to adopt environmentally friendly mind-set and shift to more proactive ones. This paper has confirmed that the most effective factors to stimulate unmotivated consumers to better acquire environmentally friendly mind-set, which leads to proactive eco-mind products purchasers and activists, are: (1) non-environmental product benefits must be stressed even for the environmentally friendly products; (2) environment consideration project incubation involves various interest parties and mechanism of shared satisfaction as a team; (3) start with small scale community project, which enables participants to recognize their project contribution.展开更多

Besides the significance, the level of automatization, flexibility, accuracy, et al. have advanced. The modern measuring systems are constructed so that nearly all necessary dimensional characteristics can be measured with them. However, conventional measuring systems are provided for particular mode measurements. This research paper presents and compares several conventional and modem measuring systems and methods. The measured value is roundness, one of the basic shapes of cross section in mechanical engineering. This paper arises in search of answers for the question whether conventional measuring techniques and equipments are made redundant because of the modern ones. In what segments and in which criterion are modem methods preferable?展开更多

The spread of the online word of mouth as a platform for the Interact highlights its great influence and importance. Especially in the online shopping, these reflect the user's point of view and attitude of the online comment has been an unprecedented attention. Online reviews have become an important medium for consumers to understand their products before they buy goods, making them an important channel for potential consumers to understand the quality of goods and services. There are many studies on online reviews, but the research on the brand awareness of cruise ship companies is almost negligible. This paper provides a reference for the construction of cruise ship brand awareness system, and combines Nvivo software to analyze the online commentary system, and provides a reference for further research on cruise brand, and prospects for future research.展开更多

The shortcomings of transhipment-method and hibernation-method are to increase holistic cost of service and to slower resource discovery respectively. To overcome these shortcomings, a context-aware computing-based method is developed. This method, firstly, analyzes the courses of devices using resource discovery and interaction technologies to identify some types of context related to reducing cost of service, then, chooses effective methods such as stopping broadcast and hibernation to reduce cost of service according to information supplied by the context but not the transhipment-method’s simple hibernations. The results of experiments indicate that under the worst condition this method overcomes the shortcomings of transhipment-method, makes the “poor” devices hibernate longer than hibernation-method to reduce cost of service more effectively, and discovers resources faster than hibernation-method; under the best condition it is far better than hibernation-method in all aspects.展开更多

The latter holds that Damasio does not distinguish the concepts of phenomenal consciousness and self-consciousness and this has two kinds of consequences. One is that it cannot satisfactorily explain certain mental states (dreams, vegetative states); the other is that it has harmful consequences for animal ethics. I maintain that to compare the two theories we can only rely on our pre-theoretical intuition of consciousness. Thus, I argue that Dam^tsio's theory combines more with our intuitions. One of the reasons is that the cases that Block describes as phenomenal consciousness without access consciousness (and without self-consciousness) are best explained as being cases of mind without consciousness. Dam^sio's theory can also explain those referred cases which are theoretically problematic. Moreover, Dam^isio has a threshold model (an expression by Barry Dainton), which is something that Block seems to ignore. This model fits well with the intuitions and neurological knowledge that we normally have on animal consciousness. Dam^isio's core self and his theory of emotions and feelings allow us to understand why we feel compassion for animals. Therefore, we are able to develop an animal ethics, which does not mean that we are required to do so. So even though Damasio does not solve the mystery of consciousness, he should not be the subject of Block's criticism.展开更多

The paper is of the opinion that challenges of constructing a new education system in post-apartheid South Africa cannot be fully grasped without a proper understanding of the pervasive impact of Bantu education on the majority for a period of almost 60 years. It also discusses the educational vision and goals of the important organizations in the liberation movement such as the African National Congress, the Azanian People's Organization, and the Pan Africanist Congress that continue to shape educational debates in the present educational reform context. The paper argues that the present curriculum by its very history and origins does not address the problems that have been created by the ideology of the former South African education system. Salient to these problems is the over-emphasis on Christian/European education that is not realistic in many regions of South Africa. The paper argues that curriculum has to reflect the cultural and racial diversity in South Africa, and further suggests that all languages and cultures in South Africa are essential in the building of an anti-racist and anti-sexist society. The monitoring of academic activity in a democratic education system can be confusing to teachers who have been trained within the confines of an apartheid (Bantu) education. The paper therefore suggests that more funds will have to be put aside by the government to upgrade the pedagogical approach of teachers so that they can be able to deal with their new role of leadership and the developing of content, and tackle issues of sexism/racism both in and out of the classroom.展开更多

Here we (I) review recent work investigating behavioral and biological commonalities between external foraging in space and internal foraging over envi- ronments specified by cognitive representations, and (2) explore the implications of these commonalities for understanding the origins of the self. Behavioural commonalities include the capacity for what is known as area-restricted search in the ecological literature: this is search focussed around locations where resources have been found in the past, but moving away from locations where few resources arc found, and capable of producing movement pattems mimicking L6vy flights. Area-restricted search shares a neural basis across metazoans, and these biological commonalities in vertebrates suggest an evolutionary homology be- tween external and internal foraging. Internal foraging, and in particular a form we call embodied prospective foraging, makes available additional capacities for prediction based on search through a cognitive representation of the external environment, and allows predictions about outcomes of possible future actions. We demonstrate that cognitive systems that use embodied prospec- tive foraging require a primitive sense of self, needed to distinguish actual from simulated action. This relationship has implica- tions for understanding the evolution of autonoetic consciousness and self-awareness.展开更多
