The above model can be utilized to modify the probability density of earthquake occurrence of t he maximum magnitude interval in a potential earthquake source. Nevertheless, it is only suitable for those potential earthquake sources delineated along a sing le seismogenic fault. This inhomogeneous model has certain effects on seismic risk assessment, especia ll y for those potential earthquake sources with higher earthquake reoccurrence rat es of the maximum magnitude interval. In general, higher reoccurrence rate of th e maximum magnitude interval and lower exceeding probability level may bring lar ger difference of the results in seismic risk analysis by adopting the inhomogen eous model, the PGA values increase inner the potential earthquake source, but r educe near the vicinity and out of the potential earthquake source. Taking the T angyin potential earthquake source as an example, with exceeding probability of 10% and 2% in 50 years, the difference of the PGA values between inhomogeneous m odel and homogenous models can reach 12%.展开更多

According to the analysis results, the sediment core Q43 can be dividedinto three strata with different features in minor elements. The first stratum (unit Ⅰ) ischaracterized by higher concentrations of Ⅴ, Cr, Cd and Sc, which are active and inactive elements. The second stratum (unit Ⅱ) is controlled by ultrastable elements Ⅴ, Ti, Cr, Th, Sc, Pb, etc. Thethird stratum (unit Ⅲ) is dominated by Ni, Co, Ba, Rb and Mn, which are authigenic andvolcanogenic elements. The geochemical features of the core Q43 show environmental changes in thedepositional process from the Late Pleistocene to Holocene.展开更多

In this paper, the quantity of bacteria which was observed traditionally manuauy can be detected automatically. Image acquisition and processing system is designed to accomplish image preprocessing, image segmentation and statistics of the quantity of bacteria. Segmentation of bacteria images is successfully realized by means of a region-based level set method and then the quantity of bacteria is computed precisely, which plays an important role in optimizing the growth conditions of bacteria.展开更多

This article proposes an improved method based on magnetic resonance (MRI) brain imaging and image segmentation. Automated classification is encouraged by the need for high accuracy in dealing with a human life. Detection of brain tumor is a challenging problem due to the high diversity in tumor appearance and ambiguous tumor boundaries. MRI images are chosen for the detection of brain tumors as they are used in the determination of soft tissues. First, image preprocessing is used to improve image quality. Second, the multi-scale decomposition of complex dual-wavelet tree transformations is used to analyze the texture of an image. Resource extraction draws resources from an image using gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM). Therefore, the neuro-fuzzy technique is used to classify brain tumor stages as benign, malignant, or normal based on texture characteristics. Finally, tumor location is detected using Otsu threshold. The performance of the classifier is evaluated on the basis of classification accuracies. The simulated results show that the proposed classifier provides better accuracy than the previous method.展开更多
