The study is to present our two-year experience in transumbilical LESS simple nephrectomy (LESS-SN) for non-functioning kidney, in an effort to evaluate its feasibility, clinical outcomes and potential advantages. Methods: From December 2008 to December 2010, a total of 11 patients with body mass index (BMI)≤30 underwent transumbilical TriPortTM LESS-SN by a single experienced urologist at our institution. The indications for nephrectomy included nonfunctioning kidney associated with ureteropelvic junction stricture (n=l), ureteral calculi (n=6), tuberculosis (n=3), and ureteral stricture (n=l). Patient demographics perioperative and follow-up data were prospectively collected and analyzed. Results: Ten procedures were successfully completed with one patient converted to open surgery due to uncontrollable bleeding. The mean operative time was 189.2 (ranging 100-320 min) with an estimated blood loss of 204.5 (ranging 50-1 000 ml). There were two complications of bleeding (1- intra-, 1- post-). The mean hospitalization after surgery was 7.9 d (ranging 4-17 d) With a regular follow-up of 1, 6, 12, and 24 months after surgery, all patients remained symptom-free with an intra-umbilical scar. Conclusion: Transumbilical LESS simple nephrectomy for nonfunctioning kidney can be accomplished with favorable surgical outcomes and a superiority of cosmesis. However, cases with chronic inflammation are not suitable for initial up-take and should only be attempted by the very experienced laparoscopist.展开更多

In the equipment, both phases are recirculated. Its operation is a consequence of the Cotrell pump effect produced when the mixture is heated in a double-walled inverted vessel. The reliability of the apparatus is tested with the mixtures studied previously by various authors. VLE data for the binary systems of methyl acetate + methanol and the methyl acetate + ethanol at 0.5 MPa are determined. The experimental data are confirmed with the point-to-point test of van Ness, applying the Fortran program of Frendslund et al. In addition, the experimental results are com-pared with the UNIFAC(including different versions) and ASOG prediction models.展开更多

Methods: The data were collected and analyzed by retrieval of 229 published short dsRNAs designed for degradation ofHCV RNA. Results: Statistical analyses showed that the most frequently involved short dsRNAs were directing against 5'NTR/core and genotype lb, accounting for 64.2% and 69.9%, respectively. Inhibitory efficacy varied with the structural characteristics of short dsRNAs, of which the most potential were those directed against HCV core region with inhibitory efficacy of 70.2%. Moreover, the mean inhibitory efficacy of short dsRNAs with GC contents from 30% to 52% was higher than that of those with GC contents out of this range. Conclusion: Based on this pooled data in a relatively large sample, the present results provided clues to design for short dsRNAs with more potent inhibitory efficacy.展开更多

However, the evaluation is not straightforward because there is natural rainfall variability, which subjects the atmosphere to spatiotemporal instabilities. The aim of this study is to analyze natural rainfall variability using the modern statistical simulation method, "bootstrap", to analyze its influence on the evaluation of seeding activities and to take proper measures to control the influence. The study is based on the 1997?2007 airborne seeding macro records and the daily precipitation data in Jilin Province. The influence of natural rainfall variability can be reduced through three approaches: the increase of the supposed "seeded" sample size N, the rejection of outliers, and the selection of similar control units. A larger N leads to smaller calculated precipitation variability and detectable lower limits of seeding effects. When N is near 470 and the seeding effect is between 20% and 30%, the confidence level reaches 90%. For a single seeding operation, the case deletion model that rejects strong influence points and selects similar control units is established to control the influence of natural precipitation variability, which obviously improves the evaluation of artificial precipitation enhancement. The results demonstrate that the relative seeding effect in Jilin Province is concentrated mainly in the range of 0 to 30%, with an average of 11.95%, and has no significant linear relationship with the actual precipitation amount. However, the fluctuation amplitude of the relative effect decreases as the precipitation amount rises.展开更多

Methods: A total of 60eligible cases were randomly allocated into an observation group and a control group, 30 in each group. Cases in the observation group were treated with conventional tuina plus reduction manipulation of sacroiliac joint subluxation; whereas cases in the control group were treated with conventional tuina plus acupuncture. The clinical effects were observed after 10 times of treatment. In addition, the relapse rates were observed 2 months after treatment. Results: The total effective rate in the observation group was 80.0%, versus 50.0% in the control group, showing a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). The relapse rate of lumbosacral pain in the observation group was 12.5%, versus 66.7% in the control group, showing a statistically significant difference (P<0.01). The relapse rate of leg length discrepancy in the observation group was 16.7%, versus 80.0% in the control group, showing a statistically significant difference (P<0.01). Conclusion: Tuina reduction manipulation can obtain substantial therapeutic effect for leg length discrepancy and lumbosacral pain due to sacroiliac joint subluxation, coupled with a low relapse rate.展开更多
