The first mode (EOF1) reveals variations of basin-wide thermocline depth, which is mainly caused by surface heating. The second mode (EOF2) presents fluctuations of vertical circulation, resulting mainly from interannual variability of cold front intensity. In addition, it is found that the upward extent of upwelling in the cold front is basically determined by wind stress curl and the zonal position of the warm water center in the southern Yellow Sea is correlated with spatial difference of net heat flux.展开更多

However, M-banking still faces resistance that may hamper cus...Banks have moved towards technology-based customer services such as mobile banking (m-banking); as an alternative to traditional inter-personal services. However, M-banking still faces resistance that may hamper customers' adoption in Egypt. Following a mixed method approach, this study involves two main phases. First, a quantitative Consumer survey is conducted in the form of 350 structured questionnaires to identify the main barriers towards m-banking. Then, decision makers in 5 different public and private banks are interviewed in order to find similarities and difference, and identify service providers' roles regarding these barricrs. Questionnaire data was statistically analysed using independent T-Test, Chi-squares, frequencies and cross tabulations, while interview data was interpretively analysed. Results enabled the researchers to identify the risk, usage, and tradition as the most m-banking barriers that discourage m-banking adoption in Egypt as seen by the two main players.展开更多

Serteng, the vertical displacement rate has been found to be 0 88~1 83mm/a since the ...Based on remote sensing data, field investigation and trench measurement along the piedmont fault (Wujumengkou Dongfengcun) of Mt. Serteng, the vertical displacement rate has been found to be 0 88~1 83mm/a since the late period of late Pleistocene and 0 89mm/a since the middle period of Holocene. Using the progressive constraining method,five paleoearthquake events have been distinguished from two large trenches since Holocene. They occurred 9000±1300a B.P., 6500±500a B.P., 5770a B.P., 4200±300a B.P. and 3250±250a B.P., respectively. From the late period of late Pleistocene to the beginning of Holocene, some paleoearthquake events may have been missed due to a variety of reasons. All of the paleoearthquake events displayed clustering characteristics to a certain extent. The first cluster was occurred around 8900a B.P., the second cluster occurred between 5700~6500a B.P. and the last cluster was occurred in 3250~4200 a B.P. The interval between the first cluster and the second cluster was about 2400a while that between the second cluster and the third cluster was only 1570a. No earthquake events have cut the ground surface along this active fault segment since 3250a B.P. The lapse time is more than the recurrence interval between two paleoearthquake clusters. Therefore, there is a potential risk for a recurring earthquake along this active fault segment.展开更多
There have been great improvements in English teaching in China since the adoption of the New National English Curriculum, however, there are still some problems in western Sichuan province in China. Silent class is f...There have been great improvements in English teaching in China since the adoption of the New National English Curriculum, however, there are still some problems in western Sichuan province in China. Silent class is found through the author's observation of some English lessons in some senior schools. This paper analyzes the situation of classroom interaction in English teaching in southwestern China and explores the reasons of silent class based on the analysis of the statistics drawn from questionnaires. The reasons are illustrated from three perspectives: teacher-centered class, exercises-based teaching, and learners' instrument learning motivation. The author suggests some proposals to solve the problems, such as changes of teachers' roles, creation of stress-free learning environment, and use of task-based teaching, which aims to make teachers consider using interactive language teaching to cultivate learners' whole abilities and to improve the efficiency of teaching and learning.展开更多

On this basis, the standard error of the point estimation of China's Gini coefficient is estimated using bootstrap method, creating a confidence interval of Gini coefficient. Results indicate that among five continuous declines of Gini coefficient between 2008 and 2013, only three declines are statistically significant. It is thus too early to jump at the conclusion that the Gini coefficient of China's household income distribution has already entered into a downward channel and at least the argument that China's Gini coefficient has been on the decline for five consecutive years is questionable.展开更多

Two hundred and sixty eight apartments were surveyed on the installation and operation situations of residential water heaters in five cities. Based on survey data, the proportion of pipeline heat loss was calculated in the energy consumption of a shower/bath. The influence factors of heat loss in residential hot-water pipeline network were discussed, and the measures were suggested for reducing the transport heat loss. The statistics and analysis conclusion have directive significance to reducing the transport heat loss.展开更多
