One hundred and fifteen first-year students of Greek took the SILL (Strategy Inventory for Language Learning) questionnaire in an attempt to reveal and activate potential a successful and widely used questionnaire like SILL might have but not identified and investigated so far. The first original point to be investigated, tackled in a previous experiment (Kambakis-Vougiouklis, 2012), concerns users' confidence whether their choice of a specific strategy is effective while the second point concerns the use of the bar as an alternative statistical tool. More specifically, in this particular experiment the bar is not divided only into five equal length spaces as in the first experiment but also into five equal area spaces according to Gauss distribution, giving the researcher the chance to investigate possible differences between two ways of data processing--an advantage only the use of the bar could provide in the analysis stage. Additionally, there are advantages concerning results collection, as subjects and researcher will have a completely free choice among infinite points on a line rather than a limited 3, 4, 5, and 6 of a Likert scale, avoiding at the same time fine verbal differences between different subdivisions. Although the two different methods of processing performed homogeneous behaviour with not statistically considerable differences, it needs further applications in order to reach safe conclusions 展开更多

Aiming at developing exhaust gas driving automobile air conditioning systems, a hydride pair LaNi4.61Mn0.26A10.13/ La0.6Y0.4Ni4.8Mn0.2 was developed working at 393-473 K/293-323 K/263-273 K. Property tests showed that both alloys have flat plateau slopes and small hystereses; system theoretical coefficient of performance (COP) is 0.711. Based on this work pair, a function proving automobile metal hydride refrigeration system was constructed. The equivalent thermal conductivities of the activated reaction beds were merely 1.1-1.6 W/(m-K), which had not met practical requirement. Intermittent refrigeration cycles were achieved and the average cooling power was 84.6 W at 423 K/303 K/273 K with COP being 0.26. By altering cycling parameters, experiment data showed that cooling power and system COP increase with the growth of heat source temperature as well as pre-heating and regeneration time while decrease with heat sink temperature increment. This study confirms the feasibility of automobile metal hydride refrigeration systems, while heat transfer properties of reaction beds still need to be improved for better performance. 展开更多

For an effective performance, the system required both continuous exposure of the dish to sunlight during the day time as well as to an electric control circuit (tracking system). The amount of the potable water was dependent particularly on the accurate centering of the system which could increase upon preheating. This system has therefore been possible to heat up water at home via increasing the temperature in hot tank by both covering the hot water tank and isolating it from the surroundings using insulators. Applications of a successful parabolic solar concentration has also been designed to provide desalinated water for domestic usage which operates with temperatures higher than other types of the solar radiation for the future. 展开更多

At present, Brazil estuary aliya rock fill dam is the highest dam in this kind of dam in the world, built in 1980, has been running well. Our reinforced rock fill dam with face slab design and construction technology in the introduction of digestion and absorption of foreign advanced experience in the foundation, the systemic research on a considerable scale. The design level and construction technology of the rock fill dam with face slab in our country have reached the international advanced level by the complete technology of the construction of the 100m level rock fill dam with face slab. To make full use of the gas resource, stabilize the pipe network pressure, and obtain higher economic benefits in the iron and steel industry, the surplus gas prediction and scheduling models were proposed. Before applying the forecasting techniques, a support vector classifier was first used to classify the data, and then the filtering was used to create separate trend and volatility sequences. After forecasting, the Markov chain transition probability matrix was introduced to adjust the residual. Simulation results using surplus gas data from an iron and steel enterprise demonstrate that the constructed SVC-HP-ENN-LSSVM-MC prediction model prediction is accurate, and that the classification accuracy is high under different conditions. Based on this, the scheduling model was constructed for surplus gas operating, and it has been used to investigate the comprehensive measures for managing the operational probabilistic risk and optimize the economic benefit at various working conditions and implementations. It has extended the concepts of traditional surplus gas dispatching systems, and provides a method for enterprises to determine optimal schedules. 展开更多

Based on the good time-frequency localization of the wavelet packet modulation (WPM) system and the analysis of the muhitone (MT) interference, an improved WPM narrow band interference (NBI) rejection system using an adaptive least mean square (LMS) algorithm is discussed in this paper. In the WPM interference rejection system, according to the structure of the wavelet packet tree (WFF) and the characteristic of the MT interference, the demodulated WPM signal which contains the interference component is filtered using an adaptive LMS filtering implementation. Theoretical analysis and simulation resuits show that the proposed method improves the bit error rate (BER) performance of the WPM system in the presence of MT interference. 展开更多

The technology of production planning and scheduling is one of the critical technologies that decide whether the automated manufacturing systems can get the expected economy. Job shop scheduling belongs to the special class of NP-hard problems. Most of the algorithms used to optimize this class of problems have an exponential time; that is, the computation time increases exponentially with problem size. In scheduling study, makespan is often considered as the main objective. In this paper, makespan, the due date request of the key jobs, the availability of the key machine, the average wait-time of the jobs, and the similarities between the jobs and so on are taken into account based on the application of mechanical engineering. The job shop scheduling problem with multi-objectives is analyzed and studied by using genetic algorithms based on the mechanics of genetics and natural selection. In this research, the tactics of the coding and decoding and the design of the genetic operators, along with the description of the mathematic model of the multi-objective functions, are presented. Finally an illu-strative example is given to testify the validity of this algorithm. 展开更多

The purpose of this paper is to consider and analyze the profile of modem consumer (careful to consequences of its purchasing decisions in terms of social, ethical and environmental aspects), in order to identify the role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) for consumer through a study on critical, ethical and responsible purchase of food products. The problem is investigated empirically through a choice experiment method, which is a stated preference method based on a household survey, and through the analysis of the survey on consumer perception. In the food industry, the choice of goods and services requires the consumer decisions that seem to be increasingly dependent on factors not attributable only to the quality/price relationship, instead, they also involve issues directly related to ethics, environment and protection of labor. Today, companies do not limit themselves to undertake CSR, but often they choose to bring the stakeholders aware of such conduct, in an attempt to improve corporate reputation and business results. Therefore, it is to outline a synergy between companies' businesses and consumer's choice. The findings are based on data from an Italian region, and as such are not directly extendable elsewhere, although they may result to be of interest to other industrialized areas. The paper offers a comprehensive view of relationship between consumers and theme of social responsibility, and how they interface with firms (especially agri-food big companies) and their products; role that CSR plays in relation to the impact it can have on the consumption of food products from buyers; importance that the consumer gives to CSR when purchasing a food product and consumers' receptiveness towards sustainable strategies; knowledge degree of particular food categories; consumer willingness to purchase ethically oriented companies' products. 展开更多

The joint operation of inter-basin water transfer-supply(IBWTS)project can be more complex when there is joint water demand in multi-reservoir system and multi-importing reservoirs simultaneously transferring water from exporting reservoir.In this study,a joint operating rule is proposed for the purpose of solving such complex operation problem.This rule is composed of a set of sub-rules,including hedging rule curves of virtual aggregation reservoir(i.e.equivalent reservoir)and other individual reservoirs,water-transfer rule curves of each individual reservoir,as well as some of important assisted rules.These assisted rules refer to allocation models for water transfer-supply.In the proposed rule,an equivalent reservoir is established to determine under what condition the water supply should be reduced and specify the total supplied water for joint water demand(i.e.aggregation method).Allocation models are developed to distribute the total transferred water into each importing reservoir and determine the water releases for joint water demand by each member reservoir of the aggregation system(i.e.decomposition method).And these models are integrated with a set of influence factors such as hydrologic characteristics,reservoir storage or vacant storage,regulating ability,water-supply pressure,and so on.The aggregation of multi-reservoirs and the disaggregation of water quantities are taken into a whole consideration to reduce the complexity in reallocation of water target storage or water release.Finally,the proposed rule is applied to the North-line IBWTS Project in Liaoning Province,China.The results indicate that the proposed rule can take full advantage of hydrologic compensation in basins and capacity compensation in reservoirs.Thus it can improve the utilization efficiency of water resources in system. 展开更多

The operation of reservoir(s) has a certain impact on the downstream hydrologic regime,and even endangers the ecological water safety of river corridor and ecosystems which interact with river system.Therefore,ecological operation needs to be carried out in order to ensure ecological water use of downstream zone.The key technological support is the estimation and integrated calculation of ecological water demand.The connotation of the integrated calculation on ecological water demand lies on that the ecological water demand of different ecosystems is integrated to meet the requirements of water allocation and operation on watershed scale in terms of hydrological cycle.Considering the practical requirement of ecological operation of reservoir(s),this study proposed an integrated calculation approach of ecological water demand according to the ecological water demand in various ecosystems as well as the hydraulic connection among them;it established an integrated calculation model of regional ecological water demand by means of the distributed hydrological model,and studied the integrated calculation in Yalong River basin which is the source area of the west route of South-North Water Transfer Project as an example.The results indicated that the integrated calculation model more effectively combined the ecological water demand and hydraulic connection of ecosystems in time and space,compared with the lumped water balance analysis,since the former conquered the defect of insufficient ecological water source and supplement on multiple spatial and temporal scales,and met the demand of ecological operation of reservoir(s). 展开更多

A full-duplex optical passive access scheme is proposed and verified by simulation, in which hybrid 64/16/4-quadrature amplitude modulation(64/16/4QAM) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) optical signal is for downstream transmission and non-return-to-zero(NRZ) optical signal is for upstream transmission. In view of the transmitting and receiving process for downlink optical signal, in-phase/quadrature-phase(I/Q) modulation based on Mach-Zehnder modulator(MZM) and homodyne coherent detection technology are employed, respectively. The simulation results show that the bit error ratio(BER) less than hardware decision forward error correction(HD-FEC) threshold is successfully obtained over transmission path with 20-km-long standard single mode fiber(SSMF) for hybrid downlink modulation OFDM optical signal. In addition, by dividing the system bandwidth into several subchannels consisting of some continuous subcarriers, it is convenient for users to select different channels depending on requirements of communication. 展开更多
