In t...On-chip global buses in deep sub-micron designs consume significant amounts of energy and have large propagation delays. Thus, minimizing energy dissipation and propagation delay is an important design objective. In this paper, we propose a new spatial and temporal encoding approach for generic on-chip global buses with repeaters that enables higher performance while reducing peak energy and average energy. The proposed encoding approach exploits the benefits of a temporal encoding circuit and spatial bus-invert coding techniques to simultaneously eliminate opposite transitions on adjacent wires and reduce the number of self-transitions and coupling-transitions. In the design process of applying encoding techniques for reduced bus delay and energy, we present a repeater insertion design methodology to determine the repeater size and inter-repeater bus length, which minimizes the total bus energy dissipation while satisfying target delay and slew-rate constraints. This methodology is employed to obtain optimal energy versus delay trade-offs under slew-rate constraints for various encoding techniques.展开更多

Two relaying strategies, i.e., reactive and proactive strategies are analyzed with the Amplifyand-Forward (AF) and Decode-and-Forward (DF) protocols. We derive the Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF) of the received Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at the destination, which is used to calculate the exact outage probability, for both AF and DF protocols. According to these results, we conclude that a cooperative network which composes K relays each equipped with nr antennas can achieve maximal order-(2nrK+1) diversity gain, by proper processing at relays and destination. Furthermore, the performance comparison is given, in terms of outage probability. These two strategies outperform each other in different scenarios in AF protocol, whilst proactive strategy is always better than its counterpart in DF protocol. According to these results, the optimal power allocation schemes among relay nodes are also presented, with reasonable power constraint.展开更多

This article researches influence of the three kinds of disturbing factors on the dynamic characteristic of electromagnetic relay based on calculating dynamic characteristic. Then, the dynamic reliability tolerance design method of electromagnetic relay is discussed considering three kinds of disturbing factors. The nonlinear dynamics model of armature systems was studied by considering electro- magnetic attraction force and opposite mechanical force in this paper. Angular displacements of armature under different sinu- soidal vibration conditions are solved in order to obtain the failure mode result from armature system. Vibration tests showed the presented analyzing method is suitable for EMR. This paper proposes a stream layered cooperative relay scheme to deal with this problem. In order to study the characteristics of layered relay channels in the scheme, the capacity region is determined based on a single and a multi relay abstract model with streams layering. Besides, to satisfy the cellular network scenario, the results are extended to a wireless Gaussian channel model. The analysis and simulation results show that the scheme guarantees the continuity of the multicast streams, and maintains the high bandwidth of relay channel, with a slight loss on system capacity.展开更多

Such approach allows to create complex and accurate relay models derived from the original algorithms. The present paper describes modelling methodology on the basis of Siemens SIPROTEC 4 7SD522/610. The protection of distribution networks is facing new challenges from an increasing amount of DG (distributed generation). Even though current technology provides satisfactory solutions to manage this new situation,...The protection of distribution networks is facing new challenges from an increasing amount of DG (distributed generation). Even though current technology provides satisfactory solutions to manage this new situation, LOM (loss-of-mains protection) is still considered problematic. The solution proposed in this paper focuses on the use of a line differential protection relay. It inherently contains a suitable communication channel and provides absolutely selective protection for the feeder. Furthermore, it prevents the feeder relays from false tripping for faults on the neighboring feeder. The present trend in protection communication points towards the use of fiber optics. For line differential protection, this means a fast and high-capacity communication link which enables the implementation of many advanced protection functions. In addition, a solid foundation for such a communication link is offered by the new IEC 61850 standard and Ethernet technologies. The basic functionality of the line differential protection enables the operation of both the feeder protection and the DG protection for any fault on the feeder. Furthermore, basic LOM protection methods can be applied as backup protection for failures on the communication link.展开更多
