Persistent and advanced reddening of sweetgum leaves after major veins severing

The effects of major veins severing on morphological and physiological features of sweetgum （Liquidambar styraciflua L.） leaves were investigated by observing leaf color change and measuring leaf temperature, green/luminance （G/L） value of half-lobes, leaf stomata conductance, and water content in Yamaguchi University, Japan. The palmately veined leaves of sweetgum （Liquidambar styraciflua L.） were found more sensitive to the major vein severing than that of other species Major veins severing resulted in serious water stresses, as indicated by the persistent reddening and/or advanced reddening of local leaf, lower leaf stomatal conductance, and higher leaf temperature, etc. Severed leaf can be clearly divided into non-severed area, transitional area, and stressed area, which the three areas have different colours and temperature. The major vein barrier can also be seen clearly. The persistent reddening and advanced reddening seem consistent with the phenomenon of red crown top of some sweetgum trees and may have similar mechanism.

Facile Preparation of Danazol Nanoparticles by High-Gravity Anti-solvent Precipitation （HGAP） Method

The nanoparticles of the hydrophobic drug of danazol with narrow size distribution are facilely prepared by controlled high-gravity anti-solvent precipitation （HGAP） process. Intensified micromixing and uniform nucleation environment are created by the high-gravity equipment （rotating packed bed） in carrying out the anti-solvent precipitation process to produce nanoparticles. The average particle size decreases from 55 μm of the raw danazol to 190 nm of the nanoparticles. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller （BET） surface area sharply increases from 0.66 m^2·g^-1 to 15.08 m^2·g^-l. Accordingly, the dissolution rate is greatly improved. The molecular state, chemical composition, and crystal form of the danazol nanoparticles remains unchanged after processing according to Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） and X-ray diffraction （XRD）, The high recovery ratio and continuous production capacity are highly appreciated in industry. Therefore, the HGAP method might offer a general and facile platform for mass production of hydrophobic pharmaceutical danazol particles in nanometer range.

Snstainable Land Use in Hilly Red Soil Region of South-eastern China

In the Present work, an integrated analysis of natural and socio-economic conditions in the hilly redsoil region of southeastern China is made by nieans of a Geographic Information System. Particular em-phasis lies on soil degradation and other adverse ecological and environmental effects of the prevalent andirrational land-use systems of mono-and valley-agriculture in the region. Moreover, taking into account thesimultaneous existence of enormous potentials and serious constraints and the high diversity and complexityof the biophysical and socio-economic environments, a set of strategies and counterineasures are also prc-posed for appropriate management of environmental resources, in terms of maintaining harmony betweenutilization and conservation of the natural environment, including 1) adjustment of the agricultural structureand optimization of ecological patterns of stereo-agriculture; 2) improvement and integrated exploitation ofthe low-yield lands and wastelands; 3) rehabilitation and conservation of soil and water resources; and 4)establishment of production bases of tropical and subtropical cash crops and fruits.

Multi-parameters of Thermal Infrared Remote Sensing Anomalies of the Earthquake

Temporal and spatial anomalies associated with the Yushu earthquake, including the Outgoing Longwave Radiation( OLR), the Land Surface Temperature( LST) and surface temperature from the National Center for Environmental Prediction( NCEP) are studied using thermal infrared remote sensing data in this paper. All results confirmed the previous observations of thermal anomalies in the seismic region prior to this earthquake.Among the multi-parameter anomalies, the underground water temperature anomaly appeared first and lasted for the longest time; OLR anomaly,an infrared parameter which indicates the radiation characteristics of the land surface medium,was the first to be detected; LST anomalies appeared later than OLR. NCEP temperature indicates the average atmosphere temperature with a certain vertical thickness; therefore,it was the last detected anomaly. The anomalies of OLR and LST lasted for a similar time length and were all located in the south or southwest of the epicenter.

Ecological development of tourist souvenir industry is to improve the red tourism ecological environment,which is an important measure to promote the sustainable development of the industry. This paper takes Shaoshan as the object of analysis, from the ecological level of Shaoshan red tourism souvenirs, the production process and manufacturing process, theme selector, quality and functional design, market operation, recycling of resources and ecological consumption behavior etc. It analyzes the existing problems of the ecological development of Shaoshan red tourism souvenirs, on this basis, it puts forward measures and suggestions of promoting the ecological development of Shaoshan red tourism souvenirs.

Heavy Metal Distribution in A vicennia Marina from Sonmiani, Pakistan Coast

The accumulation of heavy metals in the Avicennia marina was studied in the Bhira village mangrove forest, Miani Hor Balochistan, Pakistan. Samples of leaves, stem and roots were collected randomly from the selected specie （Avicennia marina）. The study site is receiving continuous amount of heavy metals from effluent and discharge of different sources. The concentrations of heavy metals was in decreasing order Fe 〉 Cd 〉 Pb 〉 Hg in all three parts （leaves, stem and roots） of the Avicennia marina. The average concentration of Fe was 6.45 μg/g, Cd 0.97μg/g, and Pb 0.71μg/g, in mangrove plant Avicennia marina. The situation reflects the needs for continuous monitoring of the heavy metals in the mangrove plant forest.

China＇s Population Aging from the Perspective of Public Policy

Population aging will become the norm in the Chinese society. Its challenge derives mainly from the failure of the existing socio-economic system to cope with the aging process. The intervention of public policy is therefore inevitable. This paper argues that in order to comprehensively deal with the aging problem, it is not sufficient to merely readjust population policies, policy measures focusing on the aged or policies for one or another sector. Instead, we need to reconstruct the current public policy system from the perspective of social integration and a long-term development strategy. During the reconstruction process, efforts should be made not only to coordinate the population system with other social systems, but also to coordinate short-term goals with medium and longterm strategies. Accordingly, an authoritative permanent government coordinating agency should be established and, taking into account China＇s national conditions, should redefine the social role of senior citizens, solve practical problems related to support for the aged and support the sustainable development of an aging society.

Effects of acupuncture on nutritional status in patients in a persistent vegetative state:a prospective randomized controlled study

Objective To explore the effects of acupuncture on nutritional status in patients in a persistent vegetative state.Methods A prospective randomized controlled trial was designed.A total of 66 patients in a persistent vegetative state were randomized into a control group and an observation group,with 33 cases in each group.The control group was given conventional treatment plus enteral nutrition support.The observation group was treated with additional Tiao Shen Jian Pi acupuncture therapy(acupuncture for spirit-regulating and spleen-invigorating)based on the same interventions in the control group.Both groups were treated for 8 weeks.The levels of total protein(TP),prealbumin(PA),albumin(Alb),and hemoglobin(Hb)were measured before and after treatment.The upper arm circumference and skinfold thickness of triceps brachii were measured.And the intestinal flora and fecal short-chain fatty acids contents were determined.Results After treatment,the levels of TP,PA,Alb,and Hb in the control group were decreased(P<0.05),while in the observation group,compared with those before treatment,the levels of TP,PA,Alb,and Hb had no statistical differences(P>0.05),and the levels were all higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).The upper arm circumference and skinfold thickness of triceps brachii in both groups decreased(P<0.05),and the values of these two items in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).In the control group,the contents of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus in feces decreased(P<0.05),and the content of Enterococcus increased(P<0.05).In the observation group,the contents of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus in feces increased(P<0.05),and the content of Enterococcus decreased(P<0.05).The differences between the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).In the control group,the total content of fecal short-chain fatty acids and the contents of acetic acid and butyric acid in feces decreased(P<0.05).In the observation group,the total content of fecal short-chain fatty acids and the contents of acetic acid and butyric acid in feces increased(P<0.05)and were all higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture can improve nutrition-related blood indicators in patients in a persistent vegetative state and delay the decrease of upper arm circumference and skinfold thickness of triceps brachii,which may be related to the regulation of intestinal flora and fecal short-chain fatty acids contents.
