Many monographs point out that differential encoding and decoding is necessary for ef- fectual information transmission against phase ambiguity while seldom discuss the reason why phase ambiguity will emerge inevitabl...Many monographs point out that differential encoding and decoding is necessary for ef- fectual information transmission against phase ambiguity while seldom discuss the reason why phase ambiguity will emerge inevitably.Available algorithms are specially designed for certain modulation scheme;these algorithms cannot satisfy the requirement of soft-defined radio,which perhaps demands a uniform algorithm for different modulations.This paper proposes a new opinion on phase ambiguity from the view of probability.This opinion believes that modulating symbol sequence can affect,at optimum sampling epoch,the modulated waveform as oscillating carrier has done,and so the stochastic sequence leads to phase ambiguity.Based on a general signal model,this paper also puts forward a novel universal algorithm,which is suitable for different signals,even some new ones,by configuring several parameters.展开更多

The accumulated soft output values delivered by every BP iteration are used as reliability values of Soft-Input Soft-Output OSD (SISO-OSD) decoder and the soft output of SISO-OSD is used as a priori probabilities of the demodulator for the next iteration. Simulation results show that this improved algorithm achieves noticeable performance gain with only modest increase in computation complexity.展开更多

This paper investigated the combination of turbo codes with Unequal Error Protection (UEP) and 16-QAM modulation for EVRC codec of Rate 1 to get power and bandwidth efficient coding scheme. Two new charts derived from extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart were employed as the designing tools, which are called as output mutual information chart with defined iterative degree (DID) chart and near optimum output mutual information (NOMI) chart respectively. Different from the EXIT chart, they can show the iterative performance on the whole signal-to-noise ratio range with one single curve, whereas computation complexity is greatly reduced compared with conventional bit error ratio (BER) performance curve. The iterative control was implemented according to a near-optimum iterative degree vector determined by NOMI chart, the reasonability of uncertain parameters was analyzed in one MIMO system. The concepts were illustrated based on bit-interleaved coded modulation with iterative decoding (BICM-ID).展开更多
Multiple description coding has recently been proposed as a joint source and channel coding to solve the problem of robust image transmission over unreliable network, and it can offer a variety of tradeoff between sig...Multiple description coding has recently been proposed as a joint source and channel coding to solve the problem of robust image transmission over unreliable network, and it can offer a variety of tradeoff between signal redundancy and transmission robustness. In this letter, a novel pre- and post-processing method with flexible redundancy insertion for polyphase downsampling multiple de- scription coding is presented. The proposed method can be implemented as pre- and post-processing to all standards for image and video communications, with obvious advantages. Simulation results show that this approach can reduce the computational complexity while provide a flexible redundancy in- sertion to make the system robust for any packet loss situation over different networks.展开更多
