In the system,the b... Based on wireless sensor networks, a physiological signal acquisition system is proposed. The system is used in classroom education in order to understand the physiological changes in the students. In the system,the biological electrical signal related to student attention and emotion states can be measured by electrocardiography signals. The bioelectrical signal is digitalized at a 200 Hz sampling rate and is transmitted by the ZigBee protocol. Simultaneously, the Bluetooth technology is also embedded in the nodes so as to meet the high sampling rate and the high-bandwidth transmission. The system can implement the monitoring tasks for 30 students, and the experimental results of using the system in the classroom are proposed. Finally, the applications of wireless sensor networks used in education is also discussed. 展开更多

A localization algorithm using distance and angle information is proposed in wireless sensor networks. Assuming that node axial orientations are unknown, all angles are measured to calculate the angle differences between two nodes viewed by the third one. Then, localization problems are formulated as convex optimization ones and all geometric relationships among different nodes in the communication range are transformed into linear or quadratic constraints. If all measurements are accurate, the localization problem can be formulated as linear programming (LP). Otherwise, by incorporating auxiliary variables, it can be regarded as quadratic programming (QP). Simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

A Block-Adaptive Blind Separation Algorithm for Post-Nonlinear Mixture of Sub- and Super-Gaussian Signals

The problem of blind separation of signals in post nonlinear mixture is addressed in this paper. The post nonlinear mixture is formed by a component wise nonlinear distortion after the linear mixture. Hence a nonlinear adjusting part placed in front of the linear separation structure is needed to compensate for the distortion in separating such signals. The learning rules for the post nonlinear separation structure are derived by a maximum likelihood approach. An algorithm for blind separation of post nonlinearly mixed sub and super Gaussian signals is proposed based on some previous work. Multilayer perceptrons are used in this algorithm to model the nonlinear part of the separation structure. The algorithm switches between sub and super Gaussian probability models during learning according to a stability condition and operates in a block adaptive manner. The effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by experiments on simulated and real world signals. 展开更多

We propose a method to improve positioning accuracy while reducing energy consumption in an indoor Wireless Local Area Network(WLAN) environment.First,we intelligently and jointly select the subset of Access Points(APs) used in positioning via Maximum Mutual Information(MMI) criterion.Second,we propose Orthogonal Locality Preserving Projection(OLPP) to reduce the redundancy among selected APs.OLPP effectively extracts the intrinsic location features in situations where previous linear signal projection techniques failed to do,while maintaining computational efficiency.Third,we show that the combination of AP selection and OLPP simultaneously exploits their complementary advantages while avoiding the drawbacks.Experimental results indicate that,compared with the widely used weighted K-nearest neighbor and maximum likelihood estimation method,the proposed method leads to 21.8%(0.49 m) positioning accuracy improvement,while decreasing the computation cost by 65.4%. 展开更多

Considering bandwidth limitation of wireless sensor networks, random sampling algorithm based on the compressed sensing theory was proposed. The developed acoustic signal acquisition system was applied in sampling the crawl acoustic signal of Tribolinm castaneum Herbst adults in granary. Preliminary experimentation indicated the rationality and practicability of the developed system and the proposed algorithm. They can implement the remote, real-time, and reliable wireless transmission for the acoustic signal sampled data of multiple points stored grain pests effectively. 展开更多

A new optical wireless network based on white LED lights in home area is proposed. It is a duplex channel communication system utilizing signal emitters of white LED lights in the downlink and infrared devices in the uplink. Strategies for the system construction are given. Performance for users' mobile access of different kinds of optical concentrators is investigated. Indoor channel band-width is analyzed considering white LED light distribution, wall reflection, and receivers field of view (FOV). Various modulation methods are discussed. A demo point-to-point system for surfing the net is constructed using a new line code of 4B6B which is developed to stabilize the optical output, and a peak data rate of 1 Mbps is achieved. This system is built into the lighting infrastructure, therefore decreasing the cost and offering a solution for wireless access in places which are sensitive to radio frequency like hospitals. 展开更多
