The 12 teachers＇ stories highl...Teachers of CLD （culturally and linguistically diverse） public school students New York and Rome, Italy were interviewed about their work with this unique, growing subset of learners. The 12 teachers＇ stories highlight myriad issues facing educators across the globe. Each teacher had recently participated in a research-based and government-sponsored professional development program focused on second language acquisition and culturally responsive pedagogy. Themes emerged through the analysis of individual interviews and classroom observations. These findings highlight teachers＇ perceptions of effective professional development, along with identification of institutional barriers impeding the delivery of best practices to CLD students. Cross-cultural comparisons are made which suggest an inconsistency in educational services for CLD students, along with an urgent need for professional development courses for teachers and administrators. The educators＇ voices shed light on both the challenges and rewards associated with this important work.展开更多

Simulation showed that most of the disappeared configurations were of large size at moderate distance from the surface while they were of small size at very small distance from the surface; and that the mean-square end-to-end distance <R^2> was much more prone to be influenced by the surface than the mean-square radius of gyration <S^2>. The orientational correlation between the direction of the longest principal axis of the moment of inertia and end-to-end vector was also discussed.展开更多

It is a theoretical and empirical approach, whose developments have been used by the Communication and Work Research Group of Communications and Arts School--University of SAo Paulo, Brazil. The reception from the world of work shows how changes in the labor act concretely in daily life subjectively and how they manifest in the sphere of cultural consumption. The research shows how, from the reception, the journalists reveal from which place they talk about the world, the society, and their own work. The reception is revealed as the moment par excellence ＂to talk about work＂. When talking about the other＇s work, the journalists are confronted with their own work and reveal, in their discourse, values and dramas of real activity of communication and work.展开更多

For a polynomial f(x) the modulo p remainder of which is a power of an irreducible polynomial over the residue field of the Galois ring, the period of f(x) is characterized by the periods of the irreducible polynomial and an associated polynomial of the form (x-1)m+pg(x). Further results on the periods of such associated polynomials are obtained, in particular, their periods are proved to achieve an upper bound value in most cases. As a consequence, the period of a monic polynomial over GR(pe,d) is equal to pe-1 times the period of its modulo p remainder polynomial with a probability close to 1, and an expression of this probability is given.展开更多
