FAST TEXT LOCATION BASED ON DISCRETE WAVELET TRANSFORM

The paper describes a texture-based fast text location scheme which operates directly in the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) domain. By the distinguishing texture characteristics encoded in wavelet transform domain, the text is fast detected from complex background images stored in the compressed format such as JPEG2000 without full decompress. Compared with some traditional character location methods, the proposed scheme has the advantages of low computational cost, robust to size and font of characters and high accuracy. Preliminary experimental results show that the proposed scheme is efficient and effective.

Interpretation of Data in Psychology： A False Problem, a True Issue

In psychology, the concept of interpretation has been namely associated to the subjectivist paradigm underpinning qualitative approaches, rather than the objectivist paradigm charactefising quantitative research. In this article, we challenge this belief by showing how interpretation concerns psychology as a whole. To do this, the authors will first consider some dominant tendencies characterising the psychological field in general, such as the ＂empiricist illusion＂ and the ＂trap of scientism＂ （Vygotsky 1999）. Moreover, they will introduce the cultural perspective in psychology, pertinent to deconstruct several assumptions regarding research within the discipline. Stemming from this approach, ＂indirect methods＂ will be presented with regard to their potential to analyse psychological phenomena both qualitatively and scientifically. They will conclude by describing a set of principles that can be implemented when doing qualitative research as to ensure the quality and the adequacy of interpretation.

E. A. Poe＇s The Masque of the Red Death： Symbol vs. Allegory？

The paper is concerned with E. A. Poe＇s unique symbolic method as manifested in his tale The Masque of the Red Death. It offers a picture of the general state of critical treatment of the supposed opposition between allegory and symbol. I present a historical overview of how the distinction between the literary terms arose, tracing the roots of the issue to the end of the 18th century and showing its development over the next two centuries. The second section of the paper is devoted to the analysis of The Masque in the light of the theoretical background provided in the opening section. The Masque is interpreted in terms of Poe＇s modulation of＂closed＂ and ＂open＂ symbolism by focusing on aspects of the story that relate to the use of numbers, colors, and time.

Second Law Analysis of the Optimal Fin by Minimum Entropy Generation

Based on the entropy generation concept of thermodynamics, this paper estabfished a general theoretical model for the analysis of entropy generation to optimize fins, in which the minimum entropy generation was selected as the object to be studied. The irreversibility due to heat transfer and friction was taken into account so that the minimum entropy generation number has been analyzed with respect to second law of thermodynamics in the forced cross-flow. The optimum dimensions of cylinder pins were discussed. It＇s found that the minimum entropy generation number depends on parameters related to the fluid and fin physical parameters. Varlatioms of the minimum entropy generation number with different parameters were analyzed.

Justice as the Virtue of ＂No Unacceptable Harm to the Human＂

Through a semantic analysis of such common words as ＂good,＂ ＂right,＂ and ＂rights,＂ this article tries to argue that ＂justice＂ as a value-term basically means ＂no unacceptable harm to the human＂ or ＂respecting the deserved rights of the human＂ in the meta-ethical sense. In real life, then, the becoming of universal justice as an authentic moral virtue depends first and foremost upon the concrete and dynamic cultivation of such a universalistic ethical attitude： regarding neither merely oneself nor some persons specially related to oneself, but everyone as the ＂human,＂ and valuing all of them morally important and dignified so as not to do morally unacceptable harm to them, but to respect their deserved rights.

Semantic Analysis of the Theoretical Foundations of Biology

As a different type of research in the philosophy of science, biological theory has always attracted scholarly attention. One reason for this phenomenon is that it differs from the traditional scientific paradigm. To explore the root of this difference, we need to examine closely the theoretical foundations and structure of biology. The complexity of the multiple contexts and semantic structures expressed in the theoretical structure specific to biology requires that research on the theoretical foundation of biology incorporate semantic analysis. It is particularly necessary to conduct semantic decomposition of the theories themselves and study their semantic correlations. In doing so, we can discern the rationality of the biological model as a special form of scientific explanation distinct from that of physics and chemistry.

Explicit Solutions and Bifurcations for a Class of Generalized Boussinesq Wave Equation

In this paper,the generalized Boussinesq wave equation u tt-uxx+a(um) xx+buxxxx=0 is investigated by using the bifurcation theory and the method of phase portraits analysis.Under the different parameter conditions,the exact explicit parametric representations for solitary wave solutions and periodic wave solutions are obtained.

The Generalized Prime Number Theorem for Automorphic L-Functions

Let π and π' be automorphic irreducible cuspidal representations of GLm(QA) and GLm'(QA),respectively,and L(s,π×■) be the Rankin-Selberg L-function attached to π and π'.Without assuming the Generalized Ramanujan Conjecture(GRC),the author gives the generalized prime number theorem for L(s,π×■) when π≌π'.The result generalizes the corresponding result of Liu and Ye in 2007.

阿里新样:帕尔嘎尔布石窟残K2窟释迦文殊图像相关问题解析
