By selecting cases from Reference News, the newspaper hosted by the Xinhua News Agency, this paper analyzes the translation methods used by journalistic translators. This paper concludes that the translators of Reference News use reporting verbs and phrases to convert source text into objects that readers scrutinize, improving the objectivity of the translation. Meanwhile, authors’ remarks are neutralized to ensure that the demand of readers is satisfied based on the least distorted translation. Furthermore, the translator’s notes are used to communicate the source language culture while increasing the tolerance of the target language culture to another culture and maintaining its own cultural conventions. Therefore, reporting phrases, neutralized remarks, and translator’s notes may be used to ensure the translator’s balanced identity between the target language and the source language.展开更多
