To improve aerodynamic performance of wind turbine airfoils,the shape profile characteristic of the airfoil is investigated.Application of conformal transformation,one functional and integrated expression of wind turbine airfoils is presented.Using the boundary layer theory,the aerodynamic model with roughness of wind turbine airfoils is introduced by studying flow separation around the airfoil.Based on the shape expression and aerodynamic performance of airfoils,the function design of wind turbine airfoils is carried out that the maximum lift-drag ratio and low roughness sensitivity are designed objects.Three wind turbines airfoils with different thickness are gained which are used at tip part of blades.As an example,the aerodynamic performance of one designed airfoil with relative thickness of 15%is simulated in different conditions of clean surface,rough surface,laminar flow and turbulent flow.The comparison of aerodynamic performance between the designed airfoil and one popular NACA airfoil is completed which can verify the better performance of the designed airfoil and reliability of the designed method. 展开更多

A numerical model of delta-wing type vortex generator was developed in two steps.The first step was to obtain a parameterized model of the shedding vortex based on delta-wing theory,which relates the geometry parameters and flow field parameters to the strength of shedding vortex which directly decides the source term.In the second step,a method was proposed to add source terms into the flow control equations so that the shedding vortex could be simulated numerically.As soon as the numerical model was completed,two cases:One for a plate and another for an airfoil segment were investigated for test.Comparison showed that the flow field structure and aerodynamic performance agreed well with those obtained from cases with real vortex generators. 展开更多

This paper discussed a noise reduction effect of airfoil and small-scale model rotor by using attached serration trailing edge in the wind tunnel test condition. In order to analyze the changes in the performance due to the inclusion of a serrated trailing edge designed to reduce noise, a 10 k W wind turbine rotor was equipped with a thin serrated trailing edge. The restrictive condition for the serrated trailing edge equipped with the using of a 2D airfoil was examined through the using of a wind tunnel experiment after studying existing restrictive condition and analyzing prior research on serrated trailing edges. The aerodynamic performance and noise reduction effect of a small-scale model were investigated with the using of a serrated trailing edge. Moreover, the noise levels from the experiment were considered that the noise prediction method could be used for a full-scale rotor. It is confirmed that noise reduction effect is compared with wind tunnel test data at the 2D airfoil and model rotor condition. 展开更多

Predicting wind turbine S825 airfoil's aerodynamic performance is crucial to improving its energy efficiency and reducing its environmental impact. In this paper, a numerical simulation on the wind turbine S825 airfoil is con- ducted with k-to turbulence model at different attack angles. By comparing with experimental data, a new method of modifying k-to model is proposed. A modifying function is proposed to limit the production term in ω equation based on fluid rotation and deformation. This method improves turbulent viscosity and decreases separating re- gion when the airfoil works at large separating conditions. The predictive accuracy could be improved by using the modified k-to turbulence model. 展开更多
