As an aging society, Hong Kong urgently needs to find ways to reduce the hospital readmission of HF patients. This study evaluates the effects of a nurse-led HF clinic on the hospital readmission and mortality rates among older HF patients in Hong Kong. Methods This study is a retrospective data analysis that compares HF patient in a nurse-led HF clinic in Hong Kong compared with HF patients who did not attend the clinic. The nurses of this clinic provide education on lifestyle modification and symptom monitoring, as well as titrate the medications and measure biochemical markers by following established protocols. This analysis used the socio-demographic and clinical data of HF patients who were aged 〉 65 years old and stayed in the clinic over a six-month period. Results The data of a total of 78 HF patients were included in this data analysis. The mean age of the patients was 77.38 ± 6.80 years. Approximately half of the HF patients were male (51.3%), almost half were smokers (46.2%), and the majority received 〈 six years of formal education. Most of the HF patients (87.2%) belonged to classes II and III of the New York Heart Association Functional Classification, with a mean ejection fraction of 47.15± 20.31 mL. The HF patients who attended the clinic (n = 38, 75.13 ± 5.89 years) were significantly younger than those who did not attend the clinic (n = 40, 79.53 ± 6.96 years) (P = 0.04), and had lower recorded blood pressure. No other statistically significant difference existed between the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of the two groups. The HF patients who did not attend the nurse-led HF clinic demonstrated a significantly higher risk of hospital readmission [odd ratio (OR): 7.40; P 〈 0.01] than those who attended after adjusting for the effect of age and blood pressure. In addition, HF patients who attended the clinic had lower mortality (n = 4) than those who did not attend (n = 14). However, such a difference did not reach statistical significance when the effects of age and blood pressure were adjusted. A signifi- cant reduction in systolic blood pressure IF (2, 94) = 3.39, P = 0.04] and diastolic blood pressure [F (2, 94) = 8.48, P 〈 0.01] was observed among the HF patients who attended the clinic during the six-month period. Conclusions The finding of this study suggests the important role of nurse-led HF clinics in reducing healthcare burden and improving patient outcomes among HF patients in Hong Kong.展开更多

It is not clear whether exercise can improve sleep quality and whether intensity of exercise affects any of the effects. Methods: Fifteen healthy, non-obese (body mass index = 24.4 ± 2.1 kg/m^2, mean 4- SD), sedentary (〈20 min of exercise on no more than 3 times/week) older women (66.1 ± 3.9 years) volunteered for the study. Peak oxygen consumption (VO2peak) was evaluated using a graded exercise test on a treadmill with a metabolic cart. Following a 7-day baseline period, each participant completed two exercise sessions (separated by 1 week) with equal caloric expenditure, but at different intensities (60% and 45% VO2peak, sequence randomized) between 9:00 and 11:00 am. A wrist ActiGraph monitor was used to assess sleep at baseline and two nights following each exercise session. Results: The average duration of the exercise was 54 and 72 rain, respectively at 60% (moderate-intensity) and 45% VO2peak (light-intensity). Wake time after sleep onset was significantly shorter (p = 0.016), the number of awakenings was less (p = 0.046), and total activity counts were lower (p = 0.05) after the moderate-intensity exercise compared to baseline no-exercise condition. Conclusion: Our data showed that a single moderate-intensity aerobic exercise session improved sleep quality in older women.展开更多

Drying process of grapes was carried out by means of the traditional sun-drying method and an alternative chamber-drying method under 50℃. Chamber-drying allows shorter drying time and select grapes at a higher ripening degree. During raisining grape musts decreased in hab (hue angle) and increased in Cab (chroma). In comparative terms, the final values of hue were virtually identical in both types of drying, although differences were found in the final values of chromaticity, being lower in the chamber-drying method. Changes in the color parameters during aging were compared in commercial wines with different aging systems and without aging. Likewise, as a reference of traditional wine aging system, the color changes in wines with four aging degrees were also studied. Regarding to the commercial wines studied, it can be pointed out the wine aged without blends for 4 years significantly differed in the values of hab and C*ab of the remaining wines, which show more similar values among them and in the data obtained for the wines aged by the traditional aging system.展开更多

However, previous studies have failed to detect the transmission of information about food study, we tested how demonstrators' health affects the exchange of of potential danger and food aversion using STFP test. In this odour information and whether observers can learn danger information from an unhealthy demonstrator. As expected, the observer rat formed an odour preference after interacting with a demonstrator rat that had just eaten food containing a new odour, however, odour preference rather than aversion was also formed after interacting with a demonstrator rat injected with LiC1 (used to induce gastric malaise). Furthermore, anaesthetized demonstrator rats and half-anaesthetized demonstrator rats, which showed obvious motor deficits suggesting an unhealthy state, also socially transmitted food preferences to observers. These results suggest that the social transmission of food preferences task is independent of a demonstrators' health, and that information about dangerous foods cannot be transmitted using this behavioural task.展开更多

Female couples can have a policy of giving birth to two children. On October 29, 2015, China introduced the "two-child policy", completely replacing the "one-child policy" that has been implemented in China for more than 30 years. The "two-child comprehensive" can alleviate the unfavorable population trend that plagues China's social security system to a certain extent. Optimize the age structure of the population and increase the supply of labor. However, for a long time, the financial distress and management dilemma faced by China's pension payment still exist, and the loose population birth policy will have a great impact on reducing pension payment, and will gradually appear in the policy implementation. This article combines the "comprehensive two-child" policy, focusing on the role of the new population birth policy to alleviate the pressure on China's pension.展开更多

To investigate this topic, a qualitative research approach was applied. The researcher interviewed 30 key informants, consisting of TV administrators, professional experts, academic experts, experts on the elderly, and TV program advertising sponsors. Data were collected using in-depth interviews and analyzed descriptively. This was an interdisciplinary research, drawing from the fields of communication arts, sociology, demography, psychology, management science, and government media policy studies to develop a broad picture of the future of TV programs for the elderly. The major finding was that TV programs aimed specifically at elderly viewers are likely to appear in the near future as Thai society becomes an aging society. The three major factors that will lead to suitable approaches to the development of TV programs for the elderly are: (1) the external factors of the rising numbers of elderly people in the population, CSR (Corporation Social Responsibility) marketing, and government policies; (2) the internal factors of the free TV channels' policies and the TV producers' policies; and (3) the program-related factors of the value of the elderly in Thai culture, the forms of TV programs for senior viewers, the psychology of the aged, and expansion of target viewer age groups.展开更多

For always best connection(ABC), users tend to activate parallel transmission across all available RATs. However from a system-wide perspective, this might not be optimal given the context of network load, interference and diverse service requirements. To intelligently determine how to use these multi-RAT access resources concurrently, this paper proposes a joint multi-RAT user association and resource allocation strategy with triple decision and integrated context awareness of users and networks. A dynamic game based ant colony algorithm(GACA) is designed to simultaneously maximize the system utility and the fairness of resource allocation. Simulation results show that it's more reasonable to make multi-RAT association decision from a system-wide viewpoint than from an individual one. Compared to max-SNR based and ABC based strategies, the proposed method alleviates network congestion and optimizes resource allocation. It obtains 39%~70% performance improvement.展开更多
