The isolate was investigated from morphological, physiological, biochemical and molecular characterization. It is a Gram-negative, shortbacillus, non-spore-forming anaerobic bacteria with an optimum growth at 8.0 pH at 40℃. It can reduce sulfate to I-I2S. Alignment of 16S ribosomal DNA and 16S-23S ribosomal DNA intergenic spacer sequences suggests that this isolate is closely related to the Enterobacter cloacae. The isolate is identified as a new strain belonging to Enterobacter genus, temporarily named as Enterobacter cloacae 17. Analysis results of infrared spectroscopy (IR) show that the bacteria can use HPAM as the only carbon source, change the structure of HPAM polymer surface, and realize the hydrolysis of amide to carboxyl group by hydrolysis mechanism. It can degrade the side chain and change some functional groups, which obviously decreases the viscosity. GC-MS analysis indicates that the determined low-molecular weight degradation products of HPAM are polyacrylamide fragments with duplet bond, epoxy as well as carbonyl group, but most of them are acrylamide oligomer derivatives.展开更多

Although the insertion procedure is easy and generally well tolerated by patients, a few complications can occur. We report here a heavy smoker with intragastric balloon inser-tion complicated by colonization with opportunistic organisms. The 27-year-old female, body mass index 35.5 kg/m2, had a BioEnterics Intragastric Balloon inserted under conscious sedation without any perioperative complications. Six months later, when the standard removal time arrived, the balloon was seen to be covered with a necrotic white-gray material. Microbiological examination revealed Enterobacter cloacae and Candida species yeast colonies. We recommend that asymptomatic fungal and/or bacterial colonization should be considered among the complications of the intragastric balloon procedure, despite its rarity.展开更多

The study area extends from upstream of the EI-Rahawy drain to the end of the branch. The correlation matrix was performed to help identify the nature of correlations between the different parameters. The WQI (water quality index) was calculated seasonally at different points along the Rosetta branch to provide a simple indicator of water quality at these points. The results of WQI calculations showed that the fecal coliform is the main cause of poor water quality along the Rosetta branch. A statistical analysis was also performed using a two-way ANOVA (analysis of variance) to identify the significant sources of water pollution and to determine the impact of the parameters on a mass loading. A significant difference was observed between the impacts of the pollution sources on the water quality. Also, a significant difference was observed between the impacts of each parameter in the mass loading. The results showed that the E1-Rahawy, Tala and Sabal drains are the major sources for water quality degradation along the Rosetta branch and that the effect of the EI-Tahrir and the Zawyet El-Baher drains on the water quality is not significant.展开更多

Methods: An ertapenem-resistant E. cloacae ZY106, which was isolated from liquor puris of a female gastric cancer patient in a Chinese hospital, was investigated. Antibiotic susceptibilities were determined by agar dilution method. Conjugation experiments, isoelectric focusing, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and DNA sequence analyses of plasmid-mediated carbapenemases and quinolone resistance determinants were preformed to confirm the genotype. Outer membrane proteins (OMPs) were examined by urea-sodium dodecyl sulfate- polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (Urea-SDS-PAGE). Results: Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of imipenem, mer- openem, and ertapenem for ZY 106 were 2, 4, and 16 pg/ml, respectively. Conjugation studies with Escherichia coli resulted in the transfer of significantly reduced carbapenem susceptibility. ZY106 produced IMP-1 metallo-β-lactamase and CTX-M-3 extended-spectrum β-1actamase, and E. coli transconjugant produced IMP-1. Plasrnid-mediated quinolone resistance determinant qnrS1 was detected in ZY106. Transfer of the qnrSl-encoding-plasmid into E. coli by conjugation resulted in intermediate resistance to ciprofloxacin in E. coli transconjugant. Urea-SDS-PAGE analysis of OMPs showed that ZYI06 lacked an OMP of approximately 38 kDa. Conclusion: It is the first IMP-l-producing Enterobacteriaceae in China and the first report of a clinical isolate that harbors both blalMP and qnrS genes as well. The blalMP-1, blaCTX-M-3, and qnrS1 are encoded at three different plasmids. IMP-1 combined with the loss of an OMP possibly resulted in ertapenem resistance and reduced imipenem and mero- penern susceptibility in E. cloacae.展开更多

Methods: The present study collected the results of bacterial culture sampled from the surface of 110 cases of skin ulcers at our hospital from January 2011 to December 2012. We analyzed the constituent ratios of ulcer surface bacteria, the change in the main infectious bacteria and the results of drugsensitivity testing for common bacteria. In addition, the characteristics of bacterial infection of skin ulcers were summarized. Result: Of the 110 samples, 90 isolated bacteria were cultured. Sixty-one were Gram-negative bacteria, mainly comprising Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter cloacae and Escherichia coli. In addition, 23 isolates were Gram-positive bacteria, mainly comprising Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. The probability of a negative bacterial culture in 2012 was significantly lower than that in 2011 (16.7% vs. 40.0%, p 〈 0.01). Moreover, the probability of P. aeruginosa infection in 2012 was significantly higher than that in 2011 (31.7% vs. 14.0%, p 〈 0.01). P. aeruginosa was resistant to seven commonly used antibiotics. Both K. pneumoniae and E. coli had higher resistance to ampicillin. E. cloacae were not sensitive to piperacillin/tazobactam. Acinetobacter baumannii was resistant to all the tested drugs. S. aureus, E. faecalis and Staphylococcus epidermidis had high resistance to clindamycin. There was other drug resistance to reflect the higher rate of skin bacterial resistance. Conclusion: Skin bacterial resistance rate is high. Gram-negative bacteria gradually account for the majority, and P. aeruginosa becomes the most important skin infection pathogen. These characteristics of bacterial infections of skin ulcers provide a significant reference for guiding the selection of antibiotics, better controlling infections of skin ulcers and accelerating the healing of skin ulcers.展开更多
