Methods From 2000 to 2005, 8 cases with SCPT of the pancreas were analyzed retrospectively. All cases but one were females. Average age was 12.8 years. By case review, we discussed the clinical and pathological features of SCPT in children. Results The chief complains were abdominal pain and palpable mass. There were 3 cases in the head, 1 case in the body, and 4 cases in the tail of pancreas. The procedures employed included local resection (1 case), distal pancreatectomy (5 cases), pancreaticoduodenectomy (1 case), and biopsy (1 case). Histological examination showed solid with cystic areas and papillary protrusions in the 8 cases; as for immunohistochemical examinations, the positive rate was 100% for α-antitrypsin (AACT), 87.5% for vinmentin, and 62.5% for neuron-specific enolase (NSE). The patients were followed up for 2 months to 4 years but one was lost by follow-up and all were alive postoperatively. SCPT in 2 cases relapsed. Conclusion Occurring predominantly in young females, SCPT is usually curable by surgical resection with a favorable prognosis.展开更多

Methods: Using immunohistochemical S-P methods, the expression of PTEN gene was detected in 62 specimens of bladder cancer and 18 specimens of normal bladder tissue. Results: In the 62 bladder cancers, the positive rate of PTEN was 53.2% (33/62). All 18 normal bladder tissues were positive for the PTEN expression. The expression of PTEN was negatively correlated to tumor grades (P〈0.05). Conclusion: The reduced expression of PETN might play an important role in carcinogenesis and progression of bladder cancer. Detection of PTEN might be useful for judgement of tumor development and prognosis.展开更多

Retrorectal cyst-hamartomas (RCH) are derived from remnants of the tail gut, the most caudal part of the embryonic hincl gut, which normally involutes by the 8^th wk of embryonic development (3-8 mm stage). They have specific radiological and histopathological features that distinguish them from other similar formations (dermoid cysts, enteric duplication cysts and teratomas). We report a patient with adenosquamous carcinoma arising within RCH, who underwent complete resection of the cyst through anterior laparotomy, and reached complete (recurrencefree for 14 mo, so far) functional recovery. The cyst was incidentally discovered during hysterectomy 12 years ago. Diagnostic, therapeutic arid histopathological aspects of this rare case are discussed. The mentioned pedod between diagnosis and surgical treatment suggests that RCH, given enough time, can develop malignant degeneration, and should be resected at the time of diagnosis.展开更多

METHODS: One hundred and thirty-four patients underwent an upper panendoscopy as indicated by the typical reflux symptoms and were also investigated with regard to somnolence. Sleepiness was evaluated by Epworth Sleepiness Scale, which was compared to the severity of endoscopic findings (Savary-Miller/modified by Siewert). Patients with psychiatric disorders or being on sedato-hypnotics as well as shift workers were excluded from the study. The relationship between the severity of the reflux disease and daytime somnolence was analyzed with the help of multivariate regression analysis. RESULTS: A positive tendency was found between the severity of the reflux disease and the corresponding Epworth Sleepiness Scale. In the case of the more severe type-Savary-Miller Ⅲ- at least a mild hypersomnia was found. For this group daytime somnolence was significantly higher than in the case of the non-erosive type of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease representing the mildest stage of reflux disease. CONCLUSION: The severity of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease influences daytime somnolence.展开更多

Methods: Eighty-nine USB patients were allocated to three groups: Shenshu (BL 23), Huiyang (BL 35) and Shenshu (BL 23) plus Huiyang (BL 35). I-PSS was used as an observation index. The effects were evaluated and a comparison was made between the groups after three and six treatments. Results: I-PSS significantly improved in all Shenshu (BL 23), Huiyang (BL 35) and Shenshu (BL 23) plus Huiyang (BL 35) groups of USB patients (P〈0.05). The effect was significantly better in the Huiyang (BL 35) and Shenshu (BL 23) plus Huiyang (BL 35) groups than in the Shenshu (BL 23) group (P〈0.05). The efficacy rate was 50.0% in the Shenshu (BL 23) group, 82.8% in the Huiyang (BL 35) group and 90.0% in the Shenshu (BL 23) plus Huiyang (BL 35) group. It was significantly higher in the Huiyang (BL 35) and Shenshu (BL 23) plus Huiyang (BL 35) groups than in the Shenshu (BL 23) group (P〈0.05). Conclusion: Points Shenshu (BL 23), Huiyang (BL 35) and Shenshu (BL 23) plus Huiyang (BL 35) can all regulate voiding dysfunction and improve quality of life in USB patients. Shenshu (BL 23) plus Huiyang (BL 35) has the most marked therapeutic effect.展开更多
