[Method] Through analyzing the growth curve of Chlorella sp. cells, dextrose consumption curve, change curves of pH and dissolved oxygen, a fed-batch culture was conducted, followed by a nitrogen-deficient culture aiming at accumulating the lipids in Chlorella sp. cells when a high density of Chlorella sp. cells was obtained. [Result] After four batches of feeding were pro- vided, the biomass of Chlorella sp. reached up to 65.25 g/L, and the lipid content increased from 42.75% to 63.82% in Chlorella sp. cells, with the yield of 43.37 g/L in the following 12 hours of nitrogen-deficient culture. [Conclusion] Reasonable fed- batch can significantly improve the biomass of Chlorella sp., and the nitrogen-defi- cient culture further raises the lipid yield of Chlorella sp.展开更多

The soils were formed on old lava (about 9000 years ago), old tephra (about 8 700 years ago), recent lava (about 2 600 years ago) and recent tephra (about 3600 years ago). A part of the organic matter of the soils, deprived of HAs and fulvic acids (FAs), was isolated by glycerol extraction. The GEOF can not be extracted with alkaline solutions, probably because it is closely bound to the mineral component of the soil. The characterization of the extracted organic fraction was carried out using elementary and functional group analysis and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. About 20 extractions were necessary to extract the HA and FA from the older soils and about 10 extractions to extract them from the younger soils. Data showed that the CEOFs had a greater ash content and a smaller N content, as well as a greater presence of aliphatic compounds and carboxylic groups as compared to the HA extracted from the same soil. The GEOFs extracted from younger soils also had a lower yield, ash and COOH-group content, and were more aliphatic than the GEOF extracted from older soils. Finally, the GEOFs were more closely bound to the amorphous component of the soil ('short-range' minerals) and consequently less subject to biodegradation.展开更多

Changes in cell membrane fatty acid profiles studied under different temperature and media. The active oxygenation, semi-aerobic cultivation supplemented Tween 80 conditions were used in different combinations. The concentrations of 2-PE and Eth, the fatty acids methyl esters (FAMES) in the media were measured by GC-MS analyses. 2-PE, Eth, FAMES were identified by NIST02 MS database at the 2-PE and Eth standard solution (Merck, Germany), bacterial FAMES standard (Supelco). Palmitoleic and oleic acid were dominated for S. cerevisiae UCM Y-524. The unsaturated/saturated fatty acid (UFA/SFA) ratio was higher than five for S. cerevisiae UCM Y-524 at 14 ~C in simple medium and about more than three for other conditions. It has been found that yeast cells grown in the presence of the 2-PE, Eth and Eth/2-PE appear to increase the amount of unsaturated fatty acids, especially oleic acid, in cellular lipids especially under active oxygenation supplemented with Tween 80. S. cerevisiae UCM Y-524 has a higher tolerance under 2-PE, Eth and Eth/2-PE stress at 28 ~C in a simple medium under aerobic conditions. A higher concentration of unsaturated fatty acids in the membrane S. cerevisiae UCM Y-524 and a lower temperature under aerobic conditions, has been considered to have a positive influence on the excretion of 2-phenylethanol.展开更多

A meta-analysis was conducted to quantify the effects of Tai Chi on blood lipid profiles in humans. Methods: We screened the databases of PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library (Central), Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang data, and Clinicaltrials.gov for randomized controlled trials with Physio- therapy Evidence Database (PEDro) score more than 3 points up to June 2015. Six studies involving 445 subjects were included. Most trials applied 12-week Tai Chi intervention courses. Results: In comparison with the control group, blood triglyceride (TG) level difference between follow-up and baseline was statistically significantly lower in the Tai Chi practicing group (weighted mean difference (WMD) -16.81 mg/dl; 95% confidence intervals (CI) -31.27 to -2.35 mg/dl; P=-0.02). A trend to improving total cholesterol (TC) reduction was found with Tai Chi (WMD -7.96 mg/dl; 95% CI -17.30 to 1.39 mg/dl; P=-0.10). However, no difference was found in blood low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) or high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Conclusions: Tai Chi exercise lowered blood TG level with a trend to decrease blood TC level. Our data suggest that Tai Chi has the potential to implement meaningful blood lipid modification and serve as an adjunctive exercise modality. The relationship between Tai Chi exercise regimen and lipid profile change might have a scientific priority for future investigation.展开更多
