The results show that the anodic layer on Pb-Ag-Nd alloy formed through pulse current polarization is more intact and presents fewer micro-holes than that formed through constant current polarization. This could be attributed to the low current density period, which works as a ‘recovery period'. During this period, the oxygen evolution reaction is less intense, which benefits the recovery of porous anodic layer. Pb-Ag-Nd anode also shows a lower anodic potential during pulse current polarization, which is in accordance with its smaller charge transfer resistance and smaller Tafel slope coefficient at high over-potential region. The lower anodic potential could be ascribed to the higher concentration of Pb O2 in the anodic layer, which promotes the formation of more reactive sites for the oxygen evolution reaction.展开更多

The growth of positive and negative streamers depends on the gap space between two solid dielectrics. And the distinctive polarities of impulse voltage affect in the streamer length and flashover voltage between needle and counter electrodes as well. By decreasing the gap space, the flashover voltage largely increased while the mean velocity of positive streamer significantly decreased under the both polarities of impulse voltage. These results have been compared to commercial mineral oil (transformer oil: JIS-C2320). It is shown that the behaviors of creeping discharge in both oils elegantly reveal the distinctive phenomena.展开更多

We give the degree distribution of aging network, average shortest path length, the diameter of our network, and the clustering coefficient, and find that our neuron model displays the power-law behavior, and with the number of added links increasing, the effects of aging become smaller and smaller. This shows that if the brain works at the self-organized criticality state, it can relieve some effects caused by aging.展开更多

We observed phenomena under pulsed voltages that generally do not manifest themselves under direct-current voltages. We interpreted these phenomena with the cathode and anode combined treated as equivalent to a resistor and a condenser in series connection. First, because of the delay caused by the charging process of the condenser, the waveform of the voltage across the cathode-anode gap was remarkably distorted. Second, the resistor led to considerable attenuation in field emission, which was clearly observable within each pulse and became more dramatic with increasing repetition frequency of the pulses. Furthermore, the field emission currents under direct-current voltages were lower than those under pulsed voltages. This disparity is attributed to rising resistance in the circuit with rising temperature. We also discussed the restrictions that the waveform distortion and current attenuation could impose on potential field emitter applications.展开更多

Using comparison theorem and Floquet multiplier theory of the impulsive differential equation, the boundedness of the model solution, the existence and stability of the free-tumor periodic solution are given. For the model with fixed impulsive effects, the global stability of pest eradi- cation periodic solution and the dominance of dynamic behavior are investigated. This indicates that the model with fixed moments has the potential to protect the natural enemies from extinction, but under some conditions may also serve to extinction of the pest. The second model is constructed according to the practices of IPM, that is, when the pest population reaches the economic injury level, a combination of biological, cultural, and chemical tactics that reduce pests to tolerable levels is used. Numerical investigations imply that there are several different types of periodic solutions and their maximum amplitudes are always less than the given economic threshold. The results also show that the time series at which the IPM strategies are applied are quite complex, which means that the application and realization of IPM in practice are very difficult.展开更多
